“Fantastic Break”
Reviewed 16 December 2013

What a fantastic hotel and a fabulous couple. I can truly say as someone well travelled this was one of the best weekend breaks I have ever experienced. The food was absolutely superb all 4 courses at dinner were amazing and then they surpassed themselvesd again the following morning at breakfast. The room was quaint with the En Suite upsatairs and even a telescope. I would definately stay again.

Dropped in for lunch and it was very tasty. Excellent partridge terrine and warming parsnip soup and the best sweet potato, fries ever. Will definitely be back for dinner. Warm and friendly environment. Then walked around the friendly village. Raines the ironmongers is a great shop - an Aladdins cave that you don't expect in such a small town.

We are a young couple, stayed here last year, had a nice room, though it was a bit noisy from the road and would have benefitted from a bath in the mezzanine shower room.

We stayed for food, and it was AMAZING French cuisine!! Truly amazing!!!

Also nice walks in the area, the locals so friendly, just chat to them if you want a few hours!!

I stayed here recently and got a great deal. Based on the price it had to be the best deal ever and I've paid double or treble for poorer stays elsewhere. The rooms at the Forresters are cosy and warm and well equipped. Very unusual in that the bathroom is upstairs so not good for disabled guests but for most people this is not an issue. Staff were all helpful, friendly and attentive and our evening meal was top quality. The owner, a gentleman called Frank is most polite and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Middleton itself is a tiny but solidly built little town with no more than 15 shops and cafes. It does have a bank, petrol station, T.I.C and a regular bus service into Barnard Castle. There are lots of footpaths in the area for walkers and a couple of waterfalls to visit. Within a 30 minute or so drive is Alston-Englands highest town, Beamish, the Tan Hill Inn (England's highest pub), Blanchland (a historical listed village) and the National Railway Museum at Shildon. Hawes, where Wensleydale cheese is from, the beautiful old town of Richmond, Hadrians Wall and the Lakes are all within an hour or so. There are also lots of good country pubs in the area. Will definitely go back to the Forresters without a doubt.

On Tuesday 3rd Dececember my wife went to the Forresters restaurant with a group of friends for a Christmas meal.

She felt the food was the best she had eaten in Teesdale. The service was excellent with great attention to detail and a warm, friendly atmosphere.

The whole occasion was delightful and the staff went out of their way to provide a standard of service and care which was exceptional.

I have eaten in the Forresters in Middleton on several occasions, and I have to say I have never had anything except a fantastic meal! There is a huge range on the menu, and it is all served extremely hot and beautifully displayed. The meals are also good value - and very filling. The ambiance in the Forresters is welcoming, like the log-burning fire, and the staff.
I would recommend the Forresters to anyone who enjoys good food!

Difficult to fault this small family run Hotel set in beautiful countryside. Very pleasant restaurant and bar area with food and beer to match. Go on an empty stomach as the food is exceptional, try the breakfast gateau very unusual and very filling.. The rooms although a little on the small side are well equipped and very clean and tidy. Access to the bathroom is up a flight of stairs directly from the bedroom and adds to the quirkiness of the establishment. All in all a most enjoyable stay, Thank you Frank and your friendly helpful staff
