Stayed at The Forresters over the weekend 25-27July. Having read the reviews, we asked for a quiet room at the back. Friday and Saturday nights were quite noisy until the early hours as there is little sound insulation between floors and rooms. Sunday night though was quiet except for owls calling and early morning tractors making the most of the daylight and the good weather. We really enjoyed the evening meals in the French style restaurant with plenty of interesting starters, mains and puds to try. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Sunshine, great walking, good food, beer and a few bottles of Rioja, all made for a very pleasant weekend.

Room Tip: Ask for a quieter room but even those can be quite noisey at a weekend until the early hours.

We stayed here in February. I loved the room, friendly staff, really cozy, great breakfast and great downstairs bar where you could hang out for a few night caps before bed. Unfortunately the noise was awful from our room, we couldn't hear the film we had put on to watch and it didn't stop until 1.30am, put us in a bit of a bad mood for the next day, it was such a shame because everything else was great, if it wasn't for the noise I would have given it 5 stars.

Room Tip: Mention the noise before booking, maybe they have quieter rooms.

On arrival found the owners very friendly and helpful, the rooms very good we had a room at the rear with it being mid week there was no noise from the bar area, the meals where very good, everything was very good while we where there, it was during World Cup football and the hotel provided snacks to which you helped yourself.

Stayed at the Forresters Hotel and Restaurant in Middleton in Teesdale in early July 2014 for a long weekend . The hotel is in the centre of the village and is the meeting place for all the local drinkers - until 2 to 3 am all weekend music and loud voices carry perfectly ! up to the rooms upstairs, complaining seems to do no good as the noise goes on, it is terrible, other guests were complaining too. The room we stayed in was very average, the bathroom door would not close and the room was dingy . To sum up if you need to sleep at night do not consider this Hotel but if you are young and stay up until the early hours it may be for you .

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else

I always believe in being honest, I have only given this a very good, as i feel little things let the hotel down, the rooms are great and have en suite up stairs, the only thing is the painting is poorly done , the restaurant is nice, frech style, food was good. we had a deal so really pleased, the staff are friendly etc, so shame little things like the upkeep , which is difficult in a running hotel and old property, but cheap lick of paint, tidy rear car park, spray weed killer etc, would make all the diffrence, we had a great holiday and would certainly go back again, in general overall 9/10

Room Tip: this is in a small village with hotel opposite, yet at kicking out times a little noisy, as is the m...

fourth stay now and still as good as the first time, franck is a great host and his wife is a brilliant cook, we love the food here, we keep coming back for more especially the home made chocolates.plenty of room in the bedrooms and comfortable. nothing is too much trouble. the staff are friendly and professional. you can hear noise from the bar if in a room directly above but didn't bother us too much it wouldn't put me off going back again. needs a bit tlc to the terrace but summer is just starting and I would imagine it would be nice with flower baskets etc as it overlooks a river so has potential. barnard castle is a nice visit so is durham and darligton.the bowes museum is also worth a visit especially if you like paintings it is full of them. all in all another lovely break. well done the forresters.
