We've just returned from a long weekend stay here, our first visit to this site. The site is well described on its website, it's quiet and relaxing in great surroundings and, quite rightly, not the place to go if you want to party all night. We were in two tents (one electric hook up and one without) and there was plenty of space around us with most of the pitches being around the outside of a large field with the middle being left open for ball games. The adjacent large field was also a good play area, complete with half-size goals.

The owners work hard to deliver a first rate camping experience and were always around to speak to on any issue. Robin in particular is very attentive both on arrival and near departure.

The WC and shower facilities appear to be new and in very good condition. The only downside to this site is that, to ensure the facilities are kept spotless, the owners close them for between 2 and 4 hours each day for cleaning, leaving only the one 'disabled' tolet for the entire site from about noon onwards. There are good pot wash facilities and it's great that the site provides a freezer in which campers can put their coolbox freezer blocks overnight.

The River Tees runs through and around part of the site and its constant babbling over the rocks can be heard very clearly during the night - sounding like a strong wind through trees - so perhaps not ideal for light sleepers in some areas of the site.

Access to the site is via a very narrow track with little opportunity for pulling over if you meet a vehicle coming the other way - as happened to us. Potholes are a minor concern compared to having to reverse a few hundred yards back down the lane. I've no idea what caravan owners would do if they met head on half way up/down the lane? However the lane does provides a nice walk into the village which has shops, pubs and everything else you might need. However, check on opening times and days, we were caught out three times: really wonderful, value for money, fish and chip shop (closed Mondays), a lovely cafe/tea room (closed three days per week). Dogs were welome outside all of the shops, bars and cafes we used. Combining both these comments: the Strathmore Arms welcomes dogs and is 'Open all year round' (closed Tuesdays!)

Hot tip: hire a fire pit and a big bag of logs from Robin the owner who comes around the site daily to offload them, and at £5 per night you can't go wrong; our fire was still burning well from about 20:00 to 23:30, when we chose to put it out.

Anything we would like the site to improve? Well, perhaps reduce the closure time due to cleaning in the facilities block and, with polite notices, encourage campers to keep the place tidy and clean to a standard they would expect for themselves; provide a stool in each shower cubicle (Gents), the one small communal bench is insufficient at busy times; provide a clear area where owners can walk dogs and perhaps let them run off lead - although I appreciate that controlling what went on in that area would be difficult.

Overall, it's a great site for a relaxing camping experience - we'll be back.

We have just returned from a few nights stay at Leekworth Park and I would definitely recommend it. The shower and toilet block are kept immaculately clean. The field is set in a valley with lovely views all round. We were in a spot right next to the river and the sound of water was so relaxing. All the pitches have plenty of room around them and it has been well thought out. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful and comes around every day to see if everything is ok. On an evening you are able to hire a 'fire' and he comes around with logs - these are well worth the money and we have had a lovely couple of nights sat out with the fire going. There is plenty of room for kids to play and there is a separate field for playing football. It is well located for days out visiting places and whilst the lane leading up to the site is narrow, it certainly isn't a problem. We will definitely be going back!

My wife, son and I have stayed several times last year and been back once already this year with another stay booked for August. Clean and new shower/ toilet facilities. Lovely location with the river running alongside one one side of the field. This year are neighbours cam with us and were not disappointed - they have booked to come back with us later in the year. the kids love playing by the river - never seem to get bored which is always a good sign. there is also a playground in the village which is a short walk away (10 mis) there is also a coop and some pubs in the village together with cafe and assorted local shops. Fire pits available to hire and BBQ are allowed if raised from the ground. This year they have introduced freezer pack facilities so great for those not on EHU. The owners have started to resurface the lane to the campsite and are planning to do more this year. It is refreshing to see that customers views are listened to and suggestions implemented.

So,so happy I found this quiet and tranquil site. I can't wait to go back again! What a wonderful part of our country, scenic, riverside and a completely relaxed area.
Doing the Pennine Way in sections I needed to stay in Middleton-didn't do much research as it was a necessity and was pleasantly surprised to find such a clean, tidy, spacious and friendly site.
I found the owner Robin and Nan MOST pleasant and friendly.
See you next time!
