“Brilliant weekend”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2014

We have just returned from a brilliant weekend at the Strathmore Arms. It's a really old pub with loads of a character. The hosts Selina & Anthony could not have been more welcoming. The room was lovely, clean and comfortable. The food was really good, especially the breakfast, and plentiful. Just what we needed before going walking in the beautiful countryside surrounding the pub. Nothing was too much trouble, we will definitely be going back.

Visited for a meal earlier in the week, most disappointed since emphasis is on quantity not quality. Far too many chips and no member in our party of 4 left a "clean plate". Table tops were sticky and the whole place could do with a good spring clean. How on earth others give it such glowing reviews is inexplicable. A sorry experience.

This was not our first visit to The Strathmore and it certainly won't be our last!
We have had the absolute pleasure of staying with Selina and Anthony on a number of occasions - and that's what it feels like - staying with friends who are genuinely pleased to see you. From the lovely welcoming email in response to booking, through the warm welcome on arrival in person, the friendly service and banter throughout our stay to an almost familial hug on departure, each stay has been wonderful.
As many other reviews testify, nothing is too much trouble for the hosts. The ambiance is excellent as is the food - and I cannot rate Anthony's steak highly enough! In fact, I'd recommend you order one at time of booking to make sure you get one! Breakfast is superb. We need to skip lunch after that feast - it really does set you up for the whole day. And last, but by no means least is the wonderful reception given to our canine friends. Dogs are made to feel so welcome there that it really is a home from home for them. Treats. Breakfast. Pampering galore. My only fear is that pets are so welcome that the dog-friendly room is already taken when I send my booking email in!
Thank you to Selina and Anthony for another cracking stay. We'll be back!!!

Having called at this little gem on a couple of occasions whilst out walking we finally booked in for the weekend and we weren't disappointed. We were made very welcome from the start. Our room was tastefully furnished and roomy, the bed very comfortable. The meals were excellent, from the delicious slow cooked beef in the evening to the plentiful breakfast in the morning, accompanied by fresh, home baked bread. In the days when hundreds of pubs are closing how nice to see this rural gem thriving. First class!!

Went to this location as a 'mid way' for family. Unsure as to what we would find.
This was a celebration of daughters 40th birthday. The location was excellent. The food could not have been bettered, hospitality was excellent. All in all, will definitely make a detour to visit again. To put it bluntly, fan blo@dytastic.. Many thanks!

Found this pub by chance and so glad we did, stunning location, lovely warm welcome, excellent food the braised beef was awesome, wish we could have stayed longer, we will defiantly return and next time maybe even stay over for the night. Think this could be my new favourite country pub!!! Tip: take cash as they dont take cards.
