“Poor.”
Reviewed 6 August 2013

It's difficult to know where to start... The waitress was very friendly, and there was no problem about the service. I also liked the feel of the place and, slightly grubby tables/dirty menu/chipped and dirty "reserved" sign aside, the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. The menu, at first glance, looked pretty good for vegans, but we were very disappointed when our food arrived. Each of us ordered different meals, yet they arrived looking remarkably similar - same soggy square of puff pastry on a plate, but smothered with different vegetables. Looked awful. We were told that the cheese would be "left off" each meal to make them vegan, and yet there was a layer of cheese on top of the pastry. We questioned this, and were told that it was vegan cheese. This may have been the case, but we were suspicious as we were categorically told that the vegan meal was without cheese... Considering that we couldn't eat the main course, and that the chocolate brownie was nice, but nothing special, we had a miserable time. The menu lacked imagination, and the meals we were offered certainly didn't justify the bill.

“Delicious!”
Reviewed 28 July 2013

Had a day out to Seaton today on the motorbike and my non-veggie partner suggested we go here for lunch which is most unlike him! Anyway, I'm so glad he did! The service was lively, friendly and attentive and, as a veggie myself, the choice of meals was superb and it was hard to choose what to have. We shared the sweet potato chips for a starter (and he said he didn't like sweet potato - he does now!) and then he had the chilli and I had the cashew and walnut pasta. Both portions were huge but we just had to eat it all as it was so fresh and tasty. Sadly, absolutely no room for a pudding - in fact no room for any more food for the rest of the day! We are going to Seaton again in a few weeks for the carnival on 31st August and we are both looking forward to eating here again. You never know, I might finally persuade him to give up the meat!!

You may miss it and walk by, stop and take the steps into the cafe bar. Such character, good home cooked food, great ambiance, at reasonable prices. You will not be disappointed.

“Awesome food and superb service”
Reviewed 7 July 2013

We've been there before when exploring the south coast, but chose to divert to Seaton yesterday SOLELY BECAUSE the Terrace Arts Cafe is there. We were not disappointed. The food is still awesome, and the service knowledgeable, friendly and cheerful. I'm not a veggie (wife is), but I'm SO impressed with the quality and flavours of the food. We both tasted each other's choice of starter and main meal, as we felt we'd be missing out if we didn't, and we would have been right ! Everything from the Sweet Potato Chips, to the Cauliflower Cheese truly excelled, leaving memorable after-tastes. They were even happy to box up the remainder of the greek salad, which Meg couldn't manage then and there, for us to take away. We shall return, even if it means a 2 hour journey to get there (and 2 hours back) !

“Extremely impressed”
Reviewed 14 April 2013

Went to Terrace Arts Café for the first time today for lunch. We were a group of 4 - 2 vegans and 2 non.
The service was excellent, waiter was very knowledgeable, attentive without being overbearing and very friendly. You have to wait a while for the food because it is all cooked and prepared from scratch - well worth the wait however and once you have drinks and are chatting the time flies.
We had 2 vegetarian leek and mushroom encroute, 1 vegan version and the vegan chunky lentil and sweet potato soup. All fantastic - large portions, chips were really good, the soup which I had was delicious, full of flavour and came with thick doorstop bread, the leek and mushroom dish according to my husband was very tasty with light flaky pastry and a delicious white wine sauce.
We then treated ourselves to puddings (eyes bigger than our stomachs and all that). 1 gooseberry and rhubarb vegan crumble, 2 chocolate and ginger tortes with vegan ice cream and a chocolate brownie with ice cream and thick gooey chocolate sauce. Again, big portions, all nicely presented and very tasty.
I cannot wait until I visit Seaton again so that I can go back!
