“Customers Not Welcome”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

This was our first visit to this delightful Devon town. Having been on the Tramway, we were looking forward to tea and cake in the town. We found this cafe on the Esplanade which looked nice with its red brollies outside. It was just 5.30pm, the brollies were still up and peope were still sitting at tables. However the sign on the door said 'sorry we are closed.' I asked the waitress if they were closed and she said no, the sign had been like that all day! I then ordered, but was dissapointed in this day and age that they didn't take cards. When we were sitting outside, another couple looked at the sign as well, I did interject and stress that the cafe was in fact open.

I just couldn't help but think that if the waitress had noticed earlier in the day that the sign was the wrong way round, why hadn't she turned it the right way. One wonders how many customers they lost thay day. Seaton is clearly not the most wealthy or bouyant of towns, and poor customer service won't help raise the town's reputation.

BTW, the tea and cake was excellent.

“Impulse visit,last in the line”
Reviewed 19 April 2014

The sun had gone behind clouds and was getting quite chilly walking along the Esplanade,. feeling a bit peckish, before heading back home, we took a chance and walked straight in without really studying the choices. We were very impressed with the friendly welcome and the food was just what we wanted nothing too grand but filled our needs, and a great pot of tea to share with extra hot water, which you don't always get without asking in some places. An outside seating area is always good and there were people braving the chill, but as usual, the sun came out again and helped. We sat inside. Have to say,the Washroom was tastefully decorated and very clean !
