“An interesting small (adequate) and quirky bolt hole, close to Seaton.”

Foxhole is a T-shape room (+ a small shower room) being a section of the lower down-hill part of a larger house.

The compact area is well organised with a double bed, and a little space either side, just fitting into one side of the T cap and a small kitchenette area on the other side. The stem of the T holds a small wooden table and two chairs with two further relaxing chairs fitting in the centre of the T cap between the bed and the kitchenette.

Foxhole IS small but it IS good value – you get what you pay for. The Seaton area has very little in the way of reasonably priced accommodation and certainly no Travelodge / Premier Inns within a reasonable distance - for a short stay. My wife and I being (somewhat) mature are also quite ‘fit and able’ so Foxhole made a good choice for us. We would think, however, that anyone with any mobility issues would find the steep steps down to the entrance, at the back of the main property, quite difficult to tackle. Once down, the small patio area (below the owners decking area) at the entrance to the accommodation provides a table and two patio chairs outside sitting area, over-looking a neat lawn, borders greenhouse and wooden shed.

During our visit (March) the weather wasn’t freezing, but it wasn’t warm either! Heating in the room is by way of an infra-red panel, which we didn’t find very effective. A thermostatic control is located so close to the panel that the heating cuts out when the control is at the set temperature rather than the room reaching that set temperature. Hence, we found that, the thermostat required setting at an enhanced and unrealistically high level for the panel to have any effect on the room – for it to lose its coldness – particularly when the accommodation has not been in use for a couple of weeks. Fortunately (!) a fan heater is also available (thank goodness – but rather defeating any cost savings objectives) but, although we managed to overcome the first day & night coldness, it was perhaps the constant dry heat and, we believe, infra-red rays that did not make us feel so good.

The TV has a good reception of all the Freeview channels and a swing arm bracket on the set allows multi-angle viewing from all positions in the room including from the bed – not our choice of telly-watching location. Included WiFi is with a strong signal coupled with a reasonable speed (Download: 2-3Mb/s Upload: 1-1.5Mb/s). There is noise heard from movement in the main property, in rooms that do adjoin Foxhole – particularly in the quiet of early morning, before rising and of course when retiring for the night.

The kitchenette has a small electric work-top oven (microwave size) with two hot plates on top. Also there is a fridge; toaster; kettle and some pots and pans plus cutlery and crockery. There is no wardrobe but two wall cupboards, one with a hanging rail for shorter garments. Little personal touches – including a bottle of wine and a few biscuits - were very much appreciated and Sue (living in the main house) was most pleasant, leaving us to get on with things by ourselves. Just how we like it.

Thank you for your review. We must apologise again for the heating problem. Having tried it ourselves, it is apparent that the thermostat had stopped functioning properly and has been sent back for a refund. We will revert to using the storage heater for the time being.

“Lovely studio”

The studio is absolutely great for 2 people to stay with everything that you need. Sue the owner is very friendly and helpful with nothing too much trouble. On arrival there was tea, coffee, fruit juice, milk, biscuits and a bottle of red wine. Most welcome. It is only a 5 minute walk to The Ship Inn which was fabulous. 15 minute walk into Seaton where you can pick up the Jurassic coastpath.

lovely spot for travelling around the local area. This small studio flat was perfect for what me and my daughter wanted. Lovely and warm and very clean. We stayed 2 nights and travelled all around the Jurassic coast. beautiful little patio area for sitting out in the sun. We were greeted by Sue and Colin on arrival. Sue showed us around and had also got milk tea sugar all our basic needs for the evening. Even a bottle of wine and biscuits. Superb!
I would recommend perfect for solo travellers or couples.

“Compact and very comfortable”
Reviewed 1 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We only stayed for two nights, but wish we had longer. Lovely and peaceful and the studio contained everything for a comfortable stay. Lovely garden to enjoy in the evening sunshine. Two great pubs to eat in about ten minutes walk away, and for exercise a nice walk down the river Axe to Seaton sea front is about half an hour. Free wifi is a bonus.
