We spent two nights at Garfield House over the bank holiday weekend. Although we arrived late, Tony organised a taxi from the station and met us enthusiastically. He advised us on a couple of walks in the area, which were great. The breakfasts were excellent and the dogs and cats are super friendly. The room was large, nicely decorated, with good views.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay and I would definitely return for a weekend getaway!

We spent a night at Garfield House and were met by Tony who is a great host. Having had a short walk we returned to a fantastic cream tea by the fire. We had the Blue Room which was comfortable but a little shabby, as was the whole house. Unfortunately we did not have any hot water on Sunday morning which is not good for a B&B and I am not into cold showers! This rather blighted our stay and although Tony was very apologetic there was no offer of a discount in our bill.
Maybe were were unlucky as Tony did not have any help that weekend, but I am not sure that I would return.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. I am really dismayed to hear you were unhappy with some aspects of your stay.

Regarding décor, we are accelerating our programme of improvements to the house inside and out - some jobs have been delayed by the storms and continuous wet weather that we have battled with the past few months.

The offending parts in the hot water system were of course replaced immediately, and it’s now all working fine, as it did previously for many years. Nonetheless I realise that hearing this is small comfort for you, being after the event.

I am contrite. There can be no excuse for me failing to pick up the extent of your disappointment at the time. So please can you contact me by email so we can arrange to mitigate in some way?

Loved my stay at Garfield House. Characterised by old world English charm, I was welcomed with cream tea & a fire in the lounge, felt at home within minutes of arriving.

The Garden Room is gorgeous, very spacious and comfortable. The bathroom has a ball & claw bath & a shower with the rain forest type shower head.

Tony is an excellent host & if you like dogs, you will fall in love with Charlie, a very happy & loving Chocolate Lab.

Would happily stay again & would recommend Garfield House to friends.

We have just spent a really special overnight stay with Tony, Charlie (the dog) and the rest of the cats at this beautiful B&B. We really could not have had a more friendly welcome (I think the Devon cream tea on arrival may well have swayed the booking choice!), and Tony showed from the moment we arrived that you really get treated exceptionally well here.
The hotel is set in a beautiful location about 5 mins (by car) outside South Brent, and near the beauty of Shipley Bridge & the Avon Dam. We stayed in the Blue Room, which has superb views over the valley towards South Brent. The room was very spacious, the bed was cosy and comfortable, and with a large flatscreen TV and WiFi the whole effect was very pleasant.
Breakfast the following morning was a real treat too, with just about every sort of cereal and drink on offer. Locally sourced bacon, eggs and sausage completed a great start to the day.
But what sets this place apart is the warmth and friendliness of Tony. Nothing was too much trouble (even though we were only staying one night), and we spent several most enjoyable hours just chilling and chatting. A true host!
So in summary, highly recommended, and we will certainly be staying again whilst visiting family in South Brent.

Room Tip: The Garden room is on the ground floor, we choose the Blue Room as it is on the first floor and has...

My husband and I have just spent the weekend at Garfield House and we were thoroughly impressed. We felt very much at home there and free to come and go as we pleased. We have family in South Brent and prefer our own space when visiting. Staying at Garfield House was very convenient - just a 15 minute walk along the beautiful river bank into the town. We had some lovely walks from the house and straight into the countryside. We stayed in the Blue Room upstairs and, as others have mentioned, it is a delightful and luxurious room with fabulous views and an enormous bathroom. We were most impressed with the little touches such as fresh flowers in the room and a flask of milk (rather than nasty UHT tubs) and proper coffee plus cafetiere (we are self confessed coffee snobs!). Tony and Helen were wonderful and laid back hosts and Helen's son Alex cooked us an amazing English breakfast. We will be back!

My wife and I have just returned from a night at Garfield House, an experience which I hesitate to associate with the term ‘B&B’ because this really was something quite different. The setting is idyllic: a beautiful cottage bursting with character close to a gorgeous little riverside walk leading to St. Petroc’s Church.

We arrived to freshly baked scones and tea in the ‘Blue Room’, a double aspect room, reminiscent of Beatrix Potter’s cottage, with views of South Brent valley and the moor. Later, we were very happy to have the opportunity to dine with our hosts, Tony and Helen, and it felt somehow like being with old friends as we ate delicious food, chatted and played jazz together.

The easygoing friendliness of Tony and Helen, their flexibility and their willingness to organise meals around our timetable, made this a unique experience unlike anything we have observed at a B&B previously. Our hosts were discreet and anonymous but made it clear that they were available to provide whatever assistance we might need.

Outstanding.
