“Excellent hotel and restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 September 2013

Good value hotel, nothing fancy (had the look of a Premier Inn but that was probably just the purple bedcover) but the room was always clean and tea & coffee making facilities were replenished each day. TV, hairdryer, shower gel provided. The adjacent restaurant, Alexander's Brasserie, was excellent with a good selection, all beautifully presented. Service was very good, staff very attentive. The hotel was easy to find, being on the main A59. There was low traffic noise all night but we did have the window open. Didn't stop us sleeping at all. If that particularly worries you, ask for a room upstairs at the back. Location ideal for visiting Martin Mere WWT and easy to get to all surrounding areas.

Room Tip: rooms at the back upstairs probably have less traffic noise, although was not a problem for us

We were visiting relatives in the North of England and decided to have an evening meal at The Rufford Arms Hotel on our last night. Have you heard the phrase - 'save the best 'till last' - well we did! Although the Hotel has a somewhat Olde Worlde exterior, the interior of Alexander's Brasserie - which is where we ate, was extremely modern. Very clean and had a lovely atmosphere. Tables were full, unusual for a Thursday night, they are only open until 9.00 on weekday evenings, but were well attended. The staff were very pleasant, cheerful, and helpful. Also knowledgeable about the Wine and food available. There was a great selection on the menu and the food was served quickly and was hot on arrival. It also looked wonderful, although the stylish way the dish was presented, the portions were ample and not skimpy like some modern cuisine. My husband and I both had the Trio of Melon as a starter, which was refreshing and light, he went on to have Braised Lamb Shank, which fell off the bone served on a bed of Spring Onion & Chive Mash, with a rich Guinness & Red Currant Jus. Which he followed with the Home Made Ice Cream selection. I chose Oven Baked Hake Loin in a saffron & White Wine Sauce served on crushed potatoes, followed by Key Lime Pie with a Chocolate Ganache topping and Home Made Chocolate Ice Cream - delicious. There were also ample seasonal vegetables served separately. The Brasserie has a children's menu available, and an extensive Lunch Menu. Certainly a restaurant to be recommended and we will definitely visit again when in the area.

We attended at the Rufford Arms at 5.pm., for the "Do', after the Wedding of a Niece of mine, which had been held just down the road at Rufford Old Hall. The Hotel was closed to other customers in order to accommodate the function. One half of the Restaurant was laid out for the meal, speeches, etc., the other half left as a lounge area. The Manager, Sue, and her assistant, Amanda, were very helpful at explaining and getting everyone settled into their appointed places; this was particularly appreciated because many of the Guests were in the UK for the first time, and English wasn't their first language. I was performing 'Master of Ceremonies' duties, and, again, Sue and Amanda were most helpful to me. Both were called upon to exercise their flexibility, when a Guest stood to make an unplanned speech, just as their waitresses were poised, trays in hand, to serve the first course! The food and quality of service were excellent throughout the evening. At the conclusion of the meal and other formalities, the clearing of and re-arranging of the area was done briskly. All of the staff were very pleasant and efficient, even after many hours of duty. At breakfast next morning, all traces of the previous festivities were gone!; and we enjoyed a pleasant, waitress served, meal. This is an excellent setting for a cosy, intimate Wedding function, easily, in this case, able to accommodate the 60 Guests from the Ceremony, plus evening Guests.

Room Tip: The Hotel is situated on the A59, which can be busy, but, most of the North/South heavy goods traffi...

We arrived Saturday afternoon after a long journey and booking a table for lunch at 1.30pm. We arrived 1 hour late and could not have received a warmer welcome. Nothing was too much bother and we were looked after perfectly. The food was excellent and very good value for money. The atmosphere was warm and professional. Checking in was excellent and the room was exactly what we expected from the booking. The room looked brand new and was very comfortable, especially the bed. On Sunday we got up for breakfast which was also excellent and left relaxed and very impressed. The staff are very friendly and work hard to look after their guests. Thank you and well done to them.

My husband and I stayed one night at this hotel, wish it could have been longer. Great value. Lovely hotel, excellent food and very pleasant staff. Comfortable bed. For a change, a hotel that lives up to the web site. Highly recommend a visit.

Stayed for three days on a very good dinner, bed and breakfast deal. The staff were very helpful and friendly and looked after us very well. Excellent food in the brasserie, served beautifully. Good location for exploring the Lancashire countryside. Just one downside, the hotel is right on the A59 and if staying in the summertime it can be noisy at night time with the windows open. Don't let this put you off this place is a hidden gem.

I can't fault this hotel or it's staff who were both friendly and efficient.
The room had views of the countryside and was furnished with real quality furniture including a very comfortable 5 foot bed.
We enjoyed a nice canal walk behind the hotel which the receptionist told us about.
The going rate for our stay was £65 which was good value.
This hotel seems to be a very popular place for non residents to visit for a meal in their restaurant and I can understand why.

Room Tip: Room 13 - at the side with lovely views
