“Very stuffy, had a lot of flies! ”
Reviewed 16 July 2014 via mobile

This review is solely based on the hotel, not the restaurant.

We stayed here Friday to Sunday, visiting the area for my brother-in-law's wedding. The hotel is in a canny location, really easy to get to and was well situated for where we wanted to be that weekend.

Once in the hotel reception you see it's pretty average, nothing to sniff at, after all you're not going to be sleeping there!

Now to the rooms. The beds are comfortable enough. The one major point though, which I'm sure is down to the weather, is that the rooms were incredibly hot and stuffy. Unfortunately we couldn't open the two windows far enough to create a decent through draft as the flies would all pile in! The upstairs corridor window was left open all day and when we returned in the night there were hundreds of flies! Thankfully our room window was shut so we didn't have any.

So it's hot but you can't do anything about it!

Oh, and two family members in a separate room were kept up until the early hours of the morning by a lady taking men into her room. After creating a whole load of noises she left at around 5am so they got an hour or so of sleep. Make of that what you will.

I'd go again if they had fly screens, and because the restaurant attached is amazing.

Hotel Review

I’m glad you to hear that you thought our hotel was comfortable, and also well-located for your needs. As outlined in the guest information in your room, we can supply you with any additional items you may require. Should you have requested, we could have provided you with a fan for your room if you felt it was too hot, which would have quickly remedied the situation. Who would have expected the summer to be so hot for a change.
If other guests are making a disturbance (especially until 5am), please contact the duty manager using the numbers provided (located on reception and in your room). He/she will be happy to come investigate and do what they can to prevent the disturbance continuing. We do hope you come to enjoy our hotel at another time and thank you for your 5* review of the restaurant.

Came with my parents for dinner tonight, food was outstanding!! Ordered from the two courses for £11.99 and what value! Pleasantly stuffed we reluctantly asked for the desert menu just to see what they had to offer and opted to finish with a slice of lemon tart for one and just ice cream for the other two. Delicious! Having had some not so great experiences in other restaurants when all the family get together (9 adults and 5 children) we have definately found our future family meal venue!! Also I already know what I'm having next time!

Restaurant Review

Thank you for your 5* rating of the restaurant. Always good to get positive feedback when we all work so hard to exceed expectations. As for your problems with the breakfast waiter, we will be monitoring the situation. Thank you for bringing it to our attention, and thanks for taking the time to write the review.

I just love this place. Rooms are clean and comfortable and staff are always friendly and very efficient. As ever, a stay here wouldn't be complete without eating in the adjacent restaurant. Again, staff are friendly and attentive and the food is truly some of the best I've eaten. It's always busy so it's worth booking your table in advance.

Room Tip: The quietest rooms are furthest from the road

Had another fabulous stay at the Rufford Arms, we have stayed at this hotel many times, the rooms are always immaculate and the food in the restaurant is amazing. Sue and her team are fabulous so attentive and charming without being intrusive.
We are already planning our next visit, and look forward to having another relaxing stay with a truly enjoyable three course meal.
We would recommend, the dinner bed and breakfast deal.

Stayed on a business trip for one night and was thoroughly impressed. 15 minutes drive from Ormskirk and lovely rural location. Bright, clean and spacious double room with all the usual facilities and a good shower / bath. Staff knowledgeable and helpful. Eat at the adjoining restaurant and had a lovely 3 course meal with drinks for under £25. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

This hotel is well worth the 15min detour from the M6 if you're driving long-distance as we were.

All the staff were charming, attentive and efficient. We took a stroll up the quiet side road to the canal before dinner. The restaurant was busy with locals (always a good sign), even the table d'hote menu had a reasonable choice and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and drinks.

Our room (13) was clean and modern, the bed was very comfortable. The only slight problem was that the extractor fan in the bathroom was switched off because it had become very noisy.

Breakfast was excellent (what more can I say?) and checkout was fast even though they had a problem with their printer.

We can recommend this hotel to everyone.

Room Tip: Try to get a room away from the main road (we did) as late night traffic on the A59 tends to roar pa...

Hotel was OK rooms was Clean as was the rest of the hotel restaurant was quite nice and the breakfast was lovely, unfortunatley we found the bed very uncomfortable ( far too hard) and extremely noisy everytime we moved a mm it squeaked which kept waking us so we didnt get hardly any sleep which was a shame as we were there for 2 nights and left feeling rather tired. The squeak im sure could be easily sorted with a screwdriver as i think the frame was just loose. The bathroom was fine and clean although the handle to the shower fell off so i had to screw that back on too :/ all in all the hotel is quite average and we personally wouldnt stay again as the bed was too uncormfortable unless there was a room with a different mattress? But the cleanliness was what stood out the most.

Thank you for your feedback. Had you mentioned a problem with the bed (or with anything else) at any time during your stay we would have been happy to assist. Unfortunately feedback on a public platform after the event does little to aid the comfort of your two night stay. As you said only a screw need adjusting in the base which took less than a minute to rectify once we had been advised of the problem.
With regards to the mattress comfort: all our beds are fitted with posturepedic mattresses with memory foam toppers designed for comfort and support. However I do understand that mattress support is of personal preference.
Once again thank you for taking the time to give your feed back.
