“Gem in Pechón”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

Friends and I were looking for a nice place to stay close to Llanes for its beaches. We did our research on the same day we wanted to stay, and came across Tinas de Pechón. Based on the great reviews and ratings we were able to book their last available apartment (we were 5 people), and we were not disappointed at all. It is an extremely modern hotel in a small Spanish village.
The beds were extremely comfy, and the waterfall shower made me want to stay in for hours.
The people at the reception were fluent in english and extremely friendly. In terms of location, it is conveniently located 20min away from the amazing Llanes beaches and around 1h away from the Picos de Europa area. They had a huge selection of refined cocktails and drinks (the best I've had in Spain) which they served in their bar/lounge. Breakfast was definitely worth waking up for. All this at a great price.
I definitely recommend this hotel!

My partner and I stayed here early November to escape the hustle and bustle of Madrid. We wanted somewhere to relax and unwind and this was just perfect for that. The service was very good, the location (in a beautiful, old and quiet village) and the room was cosy, bright and clean. I would definitely come back to this hotel in the future and I would highly recommend to book and experience this lovely place.

Tinas de Pechón is a modern, elegant, family-run apart hotel in the village of Pechón, and lies just 40 minutes drive from Santander Airport, close to the beautiful town of St.Vicente de la Barquera. This part of the northern Spanish coast is truly breathtaking, with green forests and hills giving way to unspoilt beaches and coves.

We spent a long weekend with friends at the hotel a couple of weeks ago, and were impressed by a great many things, including:

- The superb customer service. Patricia, Luz and all of the team made us feel welcome from the word go, and were very knowledgeable about local history and places to visit. They were there when we needed them, but never intrusive. Everyone we spoke to seemed to really enjoy working there, and this created a great atmosphere around the place.

- The restaurant and bar staff were friendly and professional (the bar stocks over 20 different gins, and serves each of them in its own special way - look out for the famous blue ice cubes!). My favourite breakfast tea was remembered each day, without having to be asked for, and the dinner menu was delicious. The restaurant also has a great wine list, specilaising in some superb wines from the region.

- The rooms range from good sized double rooms, to junior suites and luxury suites. We had a junior suite and a double room. Both were incredibly comfortable (great mattresses and pillows), very clean, and very quiet. As well as having great ensuite bathrooms, all rooms are equipped with a refrigerator, kitchen sink and an electric hob, pots and pans, and cups, plates and cutlery - fantastic for families with smal children who may prefer to prepare food and drinks in the privacy of their own room.

There are so many walking, cycling and driving excursions to be enjoyed in the area, we barely scratched the surface. All i know for sure is that we will be returning very soon to this extraordinary and beautiful part od Spain, and we will make sure we stay at "Tinas de Pechón" next time.

A very modern apartment hotel in sleepy Spanish village. All the staff are very friendly despite not speaking much English. The rooms are large and if you want you can cater for your self . bedding is clean and fresh.  We stayed in room 206 which had a spa bath. There us a restaurant and terrace where you can eat on the evening. We had the house menu at €59 for 2 people which had 4 courses and a bottle of Rioja wine. The local cuisine was freshly prepared and presented in a modern style. The breakfast spread catered for all tastes. Fresh fruit pastries and sliced meats and cheese. A feast for the eyes first thing in the morning.
The beds are firm with good quality linens. Pillows are excellent.

Free wifi was fast and easy connection.

A great stay.

Modern location in a nice old village near the sea. Also good Wi-Fi spot. Nice area to sit outside and also the restaurant area is modern with glass. Menu is very good with wine and one dessert for two. That we found surprising. Breakfast buffet is in the other building and is also well equipped. Parking your car is possible around the hotel/apartments but in summer this will be perhaps a problem. We walked round the village to the sea and back in about 45 minutes.

Room Tip: Room 301 at the second floor has two floors. Down the bed and the open kitchen area and bathroom, up...

We spent 2 nights in September, and it was possibly because this appears to be the 'off season' that it was very, very quiet. As per other reviews, we had a small apartment with limited cooking facilities. It was very clean, comfortable and modern. Bring your own entertainment if you don't understand Spanish, - none is spoken at the hotel either, but the staff are friendly and we managed to get by. Nothing else was open so we ended up eating at the hotel's restaurant. We had a set meal for 2 at about e.42 including very good wine; the food was excellent. The next night we tried the normal menu with less success, the perils of not knowing the language I guess.
Parking was e.6 under the building, but there was free parking in the street - it's so quiet this is easy. My only issue was that our room was always too warm and the aircon did not seem to cool it down, however there are large windows & doors to a balcony which help. The buffet breakfast was fine with plenty of choice. In all, a good place to stay & good value.

Reviewed 11 November 2012

27th October, and it was our 4th day raining. It is a pity that we did not make this Portugal & North Spain trip 2-3 weeks earlier. We were fooled by last year's Andalucia trip, which was a big success. Well, we learned the hard way that ocean weather has nothing to do with Mediterrenean. God has given us a gift indeed.

On the way from A Coruna to Donostia, we decided to pick a nice stop out in the country this time. And Pechon seemed like an interesting place, a natural fauna. Well, it came out to be, if you can digest it properly during a rainstorm! The village sits on a high plateau between Tinas rivers and has a steep, rocky face to the ocean, which you can't see because of the vast amount of trees. There are small, wonderful beaches hidden among rocks.

The hotel is about 20min walk to the best beach, and 15min to the mirador. Though we did not use, the hotel offers bikes, which is good, because you'll have to walk uphill on the way back. Though it was already dark, we did not have difficulty in finding the hotel, because it is on the main road, on the right. If you are going there in bad weather, I still recommend you take a map, because GPS may fail.

A tiny young girl, always smiling with her typical Spanish charm, greeted us. Knowing beforehand that I am a heavy smoker, and as the hotel was probably not fully booked, she even showed us two choices, one with a terrace, the other with a French balcony. Our choice was obvious, how could we resist mother nature?

The hotel has a garage under it. Though there was parking space for 1 or 2 cars in the vicinity, we preferred it for ease of loading and unloading. They charged 5€ but it seems this changes a lot according to season, form 0 to 10€. Just keep in mind that you can not reach any room without climbing some stairs. If you park outside, number of stairs increase by 1 or 2 floors.

The rooms? It would be unfair to call them rooms, because they really are as large as an apartment. At the entrance, you have a luggage space, followed by a corridor where on the right is your bathroom, followed by a kitchenette, a high table with 2 bar-style high chairs, just before your living room consisting of a sofa and a huge coffee table on the right, and a giant size bed on your left. The TV and wardrobe are opposite to bed, and you have the French balcony on your right, another window on your left, just where your sofa is, when you lie on the bed.

I had read a review complaining about size of the flat-screen TV. Well, when we had time to watch, we found it adequate. The only problem was, it showed nothing but Spanish channels. I do not care about anything else than weather forecasts during a vacation, and one does not need to understand the language to interprete them. But if this is something about stars rating, I have to admit it.

There were large and small plates and glasses, knives, forks, spoons, a microwave, a mini-bar, a waste-basket in the kitchen. All necessary toiletries and towels in the bathroom. Nothing missed.

We did not have any problems with anything in the 2 rooms, and at breakfast. It was served in a seperate building 15m across the yard, in a hall with 15 tables or so. But nothing was missing. The only fault was it took quite a time, almost an hour, for bringing them the hot servings like scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon. It is understandable on a Sunday morning at 8 o'clock in Spain. But not forgivable for a hotel claiming to be 4-star. On the other hand, there were hand-made bakeries, so delicious that any other hotel could not beat.

I must point out that there is a very attractive restaurant-bar at the yard. If the weather is good, one might spend very good time there, but we couldn't.

All Spanish guests were probably still asleep when we left. We wished it were summer, and we stayed longer, say like 2 weeks there. But we had to cancel our "Picos de Europa" visit, which would really be easy from there in good weather.
