“Handy for visits to Venice.”
Reviewed 18 May 2011

Budget priced Hotel. Very good value. Breakfast was excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good bus links to Mestre railway station and a direct bus to Airport and Venice. Tram also passes right outside but doesn't go all the way to Mestre railway station, stops about 250m short. No-good restaurants nearby so eat in Mestre centre or Venice. There is a bus direct from the Airport but can't remember the number. It's only 5 mins away anyhow so this Hotel is ideal for budget travel and those relying on public transport.

Directions: From Treviso there is a bus from the airport that takes you to Mestre station for seven Euros each. From there take the bus number 19, it will take you right past the hotel. The bus ride is about 20-25 minutes and after you see the tram lines on the ground it is the next stop. The website also will tell you the exact bus stop, but i can't remember it now.
The room is small and you will get two pushed together not a double or queen. The AC, doesn't really work. We were there in Spring, and the room was still really hot with the AC on. The shower is fine and there are a lot of tv channels, however they are mostly in Italian.
Breakfast in the morning is good, it's the same everyday, but the people that serve breakfast are friendly and there is a nice selection of different cold foods.
The people working in the reception were not very helpful or friendly. I think they could have made a little more effort to be nice when we asked them questions, one girl laughed at us when we asked if there was a Hotel Ducale in Florence.. seemed a little rude.
Anyway not a bad place, much cheaper than you will get in venice and the bus ride is very cheap. The number 19 bus runs until 10, so if you are going to Venice for night life you might want to look into other ways of getting back to the hotel before you book.

Before I went to Venice I checked the directions how to get in and out of the Venice airport and to the Hotel Ducale. On the reviews nothing much was said about the directions on how to get there from the airport, from the hotel to Venice(the hotel is in a town(Favaro) about 20 minutes to Venice). If it's your first time to check-in to Hotel Ducale you can e-mail me for directions ([---]).
Anyway, the hotel is about 6 minutes from the airport by bus. The service was very good especially the food service people that served the breakfast buffet. I traveled in March so it looks like that the European hotels have their automatic heaters still on which felt so warm inside the rooms. I just opened the window during the night which made my sleep comfortable.
There is a pizza place on the right side(outside) of the hotel. For bus tickets you can buy them at the Piazzale Roma (main bus terminal in Venice) or if the newspaper store near the bus stop opposite the Hotel Ducale. Bus no. 19 and 4 goes to and from Venice-Piazzale Roma for Euro 1.20 one way(@ 1 Euro = 1.41 US dollars)

The hotel situated in mainland and was easy to reach by bus/taxi. The bus stop was outside of the doors and quiet frequently run. The breakfast was fantastic! you are free to have everything you like- cereals, cakes, salami, boiled eggs, cheese etc...
Only one thing we didnt like about it, there werent alot of places to go in the evening. however they have nice piazzeria around the corner which freshly made in front of you and it's absolutely delicious! If you stay for 3nights- its the best place, and good value of money!
Dont forget to buy travel card- it worth every penny you spend on it...

It always bothers me to say something negative about an experience when the people there were exceptional. Throughout our stay in Italy, many Italians were unfriendly, unhelpful and downright rude. The staff at the Hotel Ducale were wonderful, helpful, warm and welcoming, which is the best I can say for the place.
First, we stayed at this hotel for its convenient location to the airport as we had an early AM flight. We had stayed in the main part of Venice for 3 nights prior. The hotel staff graciously arranged for a 5AM taxi, which was on time and at that hour cost 25 Euro for the 10 minute drive - it was early, so it is what it is.
The room was clean and the linens were fresh. Our second floor window was close to street level, so noise was a factor. Evening is when we realized that our room was just awful. The bed is uncomfortable, and the pillows are like rocks. ROCKS. The street noise was bad, and my engineer husband could not get the air to work whatsoever; so we suffered from a stuffy hot room - there was no way to call down to the front desk and I wasn't walking down in my night clothes, ("0" on the phone didn't do a thing.) On top of street noise we could hear water, voices, chairs sliding and music from other rooms throughout. As if that weren't bad enough, the smell of cigarette smoke from elsewhere permeated our room through the walls. We finally slept around 3 AM and had to be up at 4:00 to leave for the airport at 5:00.
As friendly as the staff was, I cannot recommend this hotel. I would happily double my cost for the night and stay at a brand name hotel.

A friend and myself stayed at this hotel for a long weekend in Venice and it was super. For a small hotel we found the service was excellent. All the staff were friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble, they went out of their way to ensure we had a pleasurable stay. When we encountered a problem (which was only minor anyway) as the safe in the room wasn't working properly we were given free drinks to compensate with the assurance that it would be fixed the next day - which it was. It wasn't a hassle to us as we'd only just arrived and weren't going out because it was quite late so it didn't matter anyway, but true to their word the gentleman arrived first thing after breakfast and fixed the safe so we could go into Venice without worrying about our money and documents etc. Not that we would have worried really as the staff were lovely and extremely professional. Housekeeping was great - clean linen and towels daily and the room was very clean. The hotel was immaculate, and the breakfast was fabulous and plentiful. Tons of food to cater for all tastes, too many things to mention and all delicious. The location was fine, we caught the No 4 bus into Venice and back and the bus stop was almost on the hotel doorstep so it was very easy. The advice given by other reviewers was very helpful but I would say that if you are travelling from Treviso airport and are catching the bus from the airpoirt it is easier to get the bus right in to Venice - don't get off at Mestre Railway Station or Mestre town, we had great difficulty finding which bus to get to Favaro Venito (where this hotel is) at night and so we gave up and got a taxi - get the bus into Venice to Pl Roma (the Venice bus station) and then just hop on to the No 4 to the hotel. It is much easier especially if you're not sure of things when you first arrive. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and definately would stay here again.

We booked a cruise which offered "two free nights in Venice" as part of the attraction to book and this was the hotel that was included. Therefore we were not able to choose the location which is on the mainland part of Venice, a 30 mins ride from Piazza San Roma. We arrived at about 5pm and were hoping to get into holiday mood straight away, so after checking out the room, which was small, we went down to find out where we could eat. The hotel does not do evening meals, not even snacks, so we we told by the receptionist to go down the road where there were a couple of places. The places were found were not very nice and we had the most disgusting meal and wine of the trip and that I have had in some time.

Returning to the hotel we went to bed and had been asleep for a hour or so when the telephone rang from reception - all that was heard was giggling at the other end. So the second night we disconnected the phone.

The breakfasts were the usual fare of pastries, cold meats, boiled eggs, fruit and cereals - it was o.k. but not very inspiring.

There was a lack of information available freely at the hotel regarding bus travel and restaurants etc. and I think they would benefit from providing this.

The rooms were clean but it really is a place to just stop one night, probably on your way to catch your flight at San Marco airport which is located close by.
