Very good place to stay in if you are in Kannur, Kerala.
Costa Malabari 1 and 2 are situated at Thottada beach.
Deep forest feeling, 5 mins walk to the Beach.
Mornings are superb.

Only thing is that you have to tell the Resort owner for whatever you want to have in the meal as he will bring the required items only when you say.
Half an hour journey from Kannur city where everything is available.
Drinks to be purchased by the visitor only as per Kerala law.

Pomfret & Chicken was excellent in taste.

I stayed here for a few days in December 2012 with my family.

The rooms were clean, and yes, we had a cockroach on visit, but that is only something natural if you are in a hot humid area, and nothing that means that the location is unhygienic. Couldn't care less.

The rooms were good. However, the rooms are not the main reason for me loving this place. Who will sit at the room when there is a utterly beautiful beach nearby anyway? You can return for lunch, and feel like HOME. That is something that is invaluable.

I can not praise the food highly enough. It is not only tasty, you also get a lot of it and Annie (the sweetest lady on earth) always make sure that you get a refill. And one refill more. And one extra, just in case. There are always fresh fruit juice, lassi, fruit salad and tea served. And the deserts were just out of this world. The other person working there has the kindest smile on ever, if that mattes.

I actually stumbled over several dishes that I did not found on any other place during my two month India trip. Also, prepare to make lots of new friends! The dining area is pretty small, so you will meet new people to have conversations with. I imagine you could travel to Annie all by yourself, and never feel alone.

I plan on visiting again. No doubt about it. I regret only hugged her once for farewell.

Room Tip: This hotel is split into two houses. If you want to eat Annie's food, chose the one with the lon...

I don't know where to begin with this review! Costa Malabari is fantastic. Kurien, the lovely manager, is so interesting and helpful. We were lucky enough to arrive while the local temple were performing their Theyyam ritual (see photographs) and it was truly incredible! Kurien is an expert in all aspects of the Theyyam so do ask him to explain the ritual to you.
This was our first home stay in India and we were very impressed- the food was absolutely fantastic! We fell in love with Kerelite cuisine and as there are no restaurants in the area it really is the best and only way to stay! The best part of staying at a home stay is that you feel like you are part of the family and it is a great way to get to know the other guests. By the time we left we were all very close- it felt like a home away from home.
The room was very nice and they even switched on our AC hours before we arrived so that the room was ready for us. I know this because I saw them do the same for another guest who arrived after us. So sweet.
The beach is only a few minutes away by foot and is completely isolated and beautiful. There were a few men who stopped for a quick stare but in was very non threatening!
Do watch for dolphins first thing in the morning. We were lucky enough to see a family of dolphins just past the break- there was even a little baby! The current is very strong so be very careful!
I know we will be back next time we come to Kerala because I cant imagine how anywhere could be better! We were traveling on a shoestring budget so this was one of the more costly places we stayed but as all your meals are included it really is all you will spend while you are there so it is more than worth it!
Thank you so much for everything Kurien! x

Ticked all the boxes. Great clean and spacious rooms; lovely surroundings; amazing Keralan food and thank you to Kurian for letting us know when the Theyyam performances were on and organising a taxi there.

Costa malabari is a very beautifull place by the sea, south from Kannur. rooms are big and clean. meals are home made and totally awesome!!!! Kurien is very helpfull to get you train tickets and to help you see a theyyam ceremony. value is really good. the only slight disadvantage is the location: you Will need a taxi to get there and as soon as you want to go somewhere else. but then you have 2 peacefull beaches just a round the corner!

Costa Malabari is a dream place to stay - perfect food, a lovely location and great people, who helped organise all of our various comings and goings. Highly recommend, especially the chance to see the local Theyyam rituals.

Great food, private beach, good view of the sunset. What more can ask for?!
We highly recommend this place to anyone who visits the area. The beach is calm, clean and private. The food is delicious and the rooms very clean and comfortable. The owner, Mr. Kurian is very knowledgeable of the area, its history and culture. We had great conversation over dinner with him and the other guests. We didn't want to leave.
