We stayed at the Lion d'Or en route to the Loire, going on spec to the hotel. We managed to get a room - I must say that if you're a boutique hotel person , this might not be for you. The decor is a bit dated, but if that doesn't bother you, it's fine as all the facilities are clean.
We booked an evening meal, which i must say was excellent - a very high standard, as you often find in France in out-of- the way places. Chauvigny, although a small town, is an interesting place - they have put up a lot of old photographs round the town , usually in the places where the photo was originally taken, so you can spot the changes made.
Breakfast was fair, but the coffee was I think left over from the night before - a shame when we'd had a really nice meal previously.More
