“Friendliest waiter of our holiday”
Reviewed 1 November 2012 via mobile

Friendly welcome on a pouring wet All Saints' Night. We mistakenly ordered a red pitcher instead of rosé and he changed it without the slightest trace of the usual sneer we'd expect from a French waiter. Lovely food and great service. Just what was needed.

“Great”
Reviewed 14 August 2012

Went on Sunday night so no set menu. Had amazing paella, creme brulee for desert...Two arrived and couldn't finish them!

Pretty good value all round.

“Good food”
Reviewed 3 July 2012

We had 2 evening meals there on 2 consecutive days and enjoyed the food which was well prepared, varied and delicious. Good selection of dishes and chef helpful for people who were vegetarians.

“Very good food, limited menu but excellent service”
Reviewed 7 May 2012 via mobile

We booked a table for 9 people at Nicol's for 7pm. By 7.30 the place was full so do book ahead, especially on a Weds as many restaurants are closed.

Food - limited choice (whicb is probably a good thing) and excellent quality food. Moules frites, fruits de mer, charcroute, etc. Set menu for around 18€ for 3 courses if memory serves. Great value.

Service- the waiting staff are brilliant and are very welcoming.

Atmosphere- traditional french, popular with locals, we were the only tourists as far as I could tell.

“Still a safe bet”
Reviewed 28 November 2011

This restaurant has been a safe bet for a decent meal (always lunch in our case) for many years. Until recently it has featured in the Michelin Guide but now no longer does. So what's changed. Well the decor has. There has been a complete revamp and the chintzy tables and old world fittings have been replaced with wooden panels and brass in true Brasserie style. There are even a couple of new waiters who are very attentive and friendly (best service we've had there).

Otherwise we could see no change

On asking we were told it is the same chef, same menu, same manageress. We found the same quality of food and value for money.
What, we wonder, has upset the guys from Michelin? We do not know, may be it is the fact that the upstairs room has still to be revamped to look like the main restaurant and so now looks a little tired. Perhaps it is because the toilets need an update but then they always have done.

So, if you liked this restaurant before don't worry that it is no longer in 'the red book' you'll still get the good food you always did and now the team are buzzing as they really approve of their new surroundings.
If you haven't been here before then try it - it's a safe bet you'll eat well.
