Once again we received a warm welcome by all the staff. Despite my having made a mistake in my online booking everything was rectified by M.Crimet and a disaster was averted into a weekend of delight and fond memories. We have been coming here for over 30 years and still enjoy the lovely location. On Sunday morning the market was setting up outside and a thoughtless stall-holder had parked his large van to block the beautiful view from the breakfast room. Madame was out like a shot berating him for being so inconsiderate and quite rightly too If you want old world charm and a typical French hotel of past-times come here and soak up the atmosphere as well as the excellent food.

Room Tip: Choose a room which looks over the bay to get the best view.

It's been run like this for 30 years: a family affair, great teamwork and capable chefs cooking fresh local produce. So, book well in advance - it's often fully booked during high season- and try the restaurant. The 20 Euro set menu is great value, but the more expensive menu's are well worth the extra!
Valery is less than an hour from Calais, so easily reached for a short week-end in France, the bay area is a wonderful wildlife sanctuary and Valery the perfect picturesque retreat in Picardy.

Room Tip: Rooms 1,2,3 on the 1st Floor and 8,9 and 10 on the 2nd floor are best, with views over the bay. Room...

This hotel is situated on the estuary facing the salt flats. The building is old but the facilities are excellent and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. There was a card saying the restaurant was full when we arrived but a table had been reserved for us and the food was excellent. Our room was at the back of the hotel overlooking the car park but on the first floor we had a good view over the town.

Room Tip: If you want to eat in the restaurant, book a table at the same time as you book your room.

My husband and I have just returned home after a 3 night stay in this hotel. I had originally pre-booked a 2 night stay as they were fully booked (it is advisable to book well in advance) for our 3rd/4th night etc. However, they managed to squeeze us in for a 3rd night but we had to change rooms. The staff were fantastic and they moved our cases up to the top floor. The rooms are quite small but spotlessly clean and wonderful views over the Somme (hotel is literally on the Somme footpath) - make sure you ask for a Somme view otherwise you will be in a room overlooking the front/carpark (these rooms are, however, a little bigger). The only downside to the very modern bathrooms is that there was quite literally no where to hang our towels and with two towels each, we were hanging them over the hairdryer machine, the toilet paper dispenser and the shower doors! I like plenty of hooks! We could tell that the bathroom in each room had been recently refurbished to a high standard with expensive Grohe taps and dual showers but, the shower in our second room was a very small cubicle type and it would not be easy to get in our out of if you were a 'large' person! A larger wardrobe would have been useful whilst staying for more than 2 nights as we do not travel light! We ate at the hotel on all 3 nights and the food was outstanding. We tried the set menu for 19.50 euros which was superb and actually preferred this to the slightly more expensive 27.00 euro menu - although the lamb was wonderful. There was an excellent choice of wines and desserts and the dining room was beautifully styled and decorated. Make sure that you make a reservation for dining as they were fully booked all the time and extremely busy whilst we were there - which is a very good sign! All the staff were lovely. They were extremely helpful, pleasant, happy and very polite. They seemed to go out of their way to meet our requirements and made us feel as though we would want to return even though they are a busy and extremely popular hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel to just about anyone but you do have to be able to tackle the staircases - the actual entrance to the hotel/reception is up several flights of stairs and you have to climb up another set of 'turret' type stairs to the first floor rooms which are actually on a second floor etc. - I felt like I needed oxygen by the time I climbed up to the third floor (loft) bedroom! There were only two negative points I would like to raise - firstly, the entrance to the hotel needs attention. There were broken panes of glass in the outer porch and the hotel looked as though it needed some attention. This may have actually put me off a little as I am very particular! The inside was so beautiful that it made me think that perhaps they are about to tidy up the outside etc. The second point is that the breakfast is extremely expensive for what it is. Considering we paid 19.50 euros for a fabulous meal in the evening and then had to pay 10.00 euros per person for a basic continental breakfast seemed rather odd. The breakfast should have been 6.00 euros maximum. We would definitely return to this hotel - absolutely perfect location for walking along the footpath of the Somme and walking into the town centre - 5 mins to the old part of town etc. I have written a longer than average review because very few English people make use of the Logis Hotels and they are very good value for money. Watch out for the number of lampshade/cooking pot symbols which signifies the hotel's individual standards/facilities and restaurant grading.

Room Tip: If you want a view of the Somme, ensure you pre-book and request this at the time of booking. From...

Tried a couple of different dates to get a room but without success, stayed elsewhere and went for dinner. Amazing food.
The place has a certain faded charm and is definitely quirky, but the food was fantastic, as was the service.

St Valery is a pleasant resort with a balance of old streets, promenade, narrow guage railway, good pubs and good birdlife(plus seals) out in the Bay, Hotel restaurant is excellent and reminiscent of earlier days in France when quality was king. Room was small but adequate and as it was a french breakfast we declined as they are invariably poor value. A good place to stay either in transit or for a few days break
