“Enjoyable Stay”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

Stayed here for 3 nights with our 5 and 2 year olds having booked a caravan with Eurocamp. We read some of the negative comments about the pool temperature and payment card system but weren't unduly concerned and wanted to visit the area. Firstly, the payment card system was not a problem for us at all, I just had to remember to get it off my wife before I walked to the shop etc! The pool area comprises of 3 pools - one covered, one outdoors with a slide and finally a small pool for toddlers. On our first day the pool was really warrm but was much cooler on the other days. That said, it wasn't any colder than pools we went in at other campsites, especially in Germany. It is quite a large site but never felt over-crowded. The childrens play area is only small but there is plent of space on the site to play ball games etc. My eldest really enjoyed the crazy golf. WIFI is available by the cafe/bar. We visited the parc du Marquenterre and St Valery whilst at the campsite and also spent some time on the beach at Cayeux Sur Mer which was about 15 minutes away by car. We really enjoyed or stay here and would definitely stay at this site again.

We stayed here for a 5 night late summer break 26/8 - 31/8 in 3 bedroom Chalet booked direct with Camping Castels which was a great deal cheaper than through Eurocamp / keycamp etc. Overall it is a nice site, with what seems to be plenty to do for those with young kids, several shower/toilet blocks although the ones in the laundrette area appeared to be kept the cleanest. Prepaid card system mentioned in most of these reviews can be a pain if you only want a paper or milk from the sparsely stocked shop, although Lidl, Intermarche and Carrefour supermarkets are only 1.5 miles away.

Our only complaint was the cleanliness of the accommodation, the cleaner certainly hadn't spent much time preparing for the chalet with stained beds, dirt in the bathroom, glasses and cups smelled of vinegar and the single beds were broken. We took photographs and spoke to the manager (eventually) and we did manage to get 100euros reimbursed for our troubles.

We didn't use the bar or the café especially as the wine and beers are so cheap in the supermarkets. We did use the tennis court, which was in use everyday, one tip, decide early on if want to play as it gets booked up and we had to wait two days.

Overall, nice place, not particularly noisy and the site was full. Would we return, probably, but do prefer the Castel site near Calais

This was our first trip on a self drive holiday so did not want to go too far from the port. It took us around 1 hour 20 minutes to reach the site from Calais.

Having read the reviews before we travelled, we arrived with very low expectations. We booked direct with the site for a 5 night stay in a 4 person caravan it was 225 euros a huge saving on Eurocamp quoting £680 for the same dates in a tent!

The check in process was quick and the staff more than helpful, we were directed to our caravan which was spotless and more than adequate for our stay. You have to pay a 250 euro refundable deposit. You need to make an appointment to have your accommodation checked on the day you leave. We were leaving early but they were happy to book us an early appointment at 8.30 am. The accommodation was checked at the end and you are give a ticket to take to reception to get your deposit back, our money refunded no problem.

The pools are great, a small one for young children, one outside with a slide and one under cover. People writing reviews have complained about the temperature of the pools but we found them ok. it was around 20 - 23 degrees the week we stayed and every day the pools had plenty of people in them. There were plenty of sun beds and chairs around the pool. The kids loved it.

The pay card system is fine. Buy your initial card in reception you can add a minimum of 20 euros, this card can then be topped up as required. If you run out in the evening when reception is closed, the bars will top the card up for you. Each receipt you get shows you the balance that is left on the card. If you have anything left on the card at the end of your stay reception refund it to you.

Tennis courts are available and need to be booked in advance, there is no charge for this. There is also table tennis and mini golf, there is no charge for this but you need to leave a 10 euro deposit to borrow the equipment.

There are pedal cars, 4 person pedal bikes and pony rides available all reasonably priced at between 4 - 6 euros for half an hour.

We only used the toilet blocks around the pool but these were spotless and were cleaned frequently throughout the day.

There is also a basic gym available to use. Wifi is free to use outside of the cafe bar, the connection can be slow when there are lots of people using it.

The entertainment team work very hard and there are children's activities throughout the day such as football, circus games etc.. In the evening there in something on in the cinema bar such as fun bingo, karaoke, family game show etc.. The bar prices are reasonable 1.80 for a glass of wine 3.80 for a double spirit with mixer. The beer is expensive though at 6 euros.

The shop on site is poorly stocked but with 3 large supermarkets within 1.5 miles this is really not a problem. The town centre is also a short drive away.

We really enjoyed our stay but would recommend to book direct!!!!

Room Tip: Book direct with the site save yourself a fortune!

A large group of us stayed here for 2 nights in July, we booked 2 cabins next to each other. On arrival we were given a map and very basic directions on where to find our accommodation. The cabin/caravan was tiny but adequate for 2 nights. On the first evening only myself and my partner were hungry so decided to eat at the restaurant on site. Upon switching on the shower we found the shower head was broken so had to make do with a light drizzle of water, we walked up to the restaurant at 9.10pm only to be told last orders are at 9pm and also the takeaway was now also closed. We then tried to get a taxi into town but was told there were no taxis at all in the area. We eventually set about walking the 3 mile round trip to McDonald's, which was a great meal for our 1st night in France. The following day we went to report the fault with the shower and also ask for one of the pull along buggys for the toddler in our group. We eventually saw a rep, they are very hit and miss, who later came to find us at the pool and told us the shower was being fixed and we returned to our cabin/caravan the buggy would be waiting. The shower was fixed but the buggy never arrived. The card pay system was dreadful, the amount of time the children spent going back and forth every time they wanted to do an activity or get a drink, and having to put a minimum 20 euro was time was a joke. We were extremely lucky to have brilliant weather and spend most of our time outside as this made the experience bearable, but the staff were not helpful at all, and everything closed far to early in the evening. In fact the only time the rep actually visited us was the morning we were leaving to inform us we had to be out by 10am.

ive never been camping before, I hadn't even read these reviews, just chose Domaine de Drancourt for its location only. To be honest, I've been the worlds worst at the thought of camping. My idea of a holiday has never been to have to wear my Welles, share a bathroom or listen to the bodily functions and domestics taking place in the next door tent. However, on arrival at Drancourt I was very pleased with what we were met with. Our party of 5 (2 adults and 3 teenagers) had plenty of room in a classic tent with Eurocamps, well equipped, comfy beds, conveniently located, plenty of space around the tent, couldn't ask for much more. The site got rather busier as our week went on but it didnt feel like it was eating crowded.
Plus sides to this park are the location, beautiful scenery around, lovely walks and close to St Valery which is stunning and supermarkets nearby, plenty for our kids to do and space to burn off some energy, and a generally good feel to the place. Plenty of hot water in the showers and staff seen cleaning regularly.
The downsides, the silly card payment system, already well documented, the bar was a bit pricey, the staff could sometimes be a bit non-french intolerant at times but they all appeared to be working long hours and juggling jobs so you can let that go.
generally a very pleasant site, I'm not sure what people actually expect when they go camping, I expected to have to rough it a bit, and not expect everything to be perfect or wall to wall entertainment laid on for my benefit. My expectation was that it would be basic and self sufficient and this site enabled us to have the holiday we expected and for me to have a great first camping experience. I'm keen to try other Eurocamp sites and would come back here again without hesitation.

Room Tip: Avoid being near the table tennis tent.

We stayed here in July 2013 for 7 nights, in a self-catering "cabin", which we booked direct with the site, as is was SO much cheaper than keycamp or eurocamp. We made use of the 3 swimming pools, the tennis court, shop and bar. We didn't use the takeaway or restaurant - but the menus were adequate and reasonably priced. This is a campsite - so most people were only using these facilities if they wanted a night off. The site was clean and nice and quiet. The facilities ARE basic and a bit tired - but as I said - you get what you pay for. We found the staff very pleasant and efficient, bearing in mind we were there in the high season. The shop was well stocked and we could order our bread for the following day - as per most places in France.... The tennis court was - well, as you would expect a tennis court to be..... The swimming pools were looked over by a lifeguard and were clean and had loads of seating around - and busy, but this is to be expected in the heat that we had!

This site was so easy to reach from Calais and we went out every day to lovely little villages, beautiful beaches and historic places. We had plenty to do within 45 minutes drive of the site for the week and more, if we chose to.

Room Tip: Book direct with the site if you want a bargain.

Used this site for 2 seperate nights as a stop over going to and from the Vendee to another Castel site.We booked with Canvas & on the first stay we had a good positioned caravan. We arrived earlier than anticipated & luckily managed to get in straight away.We were shown to our caravan by a very abrupt canvas rep who wanted us out as early as possible the following day because they had a busy day ahead of them (I made it quite clear we didn't have to be out until 10am & we wouldn't be)
The 2nd night stay oh my god, we were stuck in a caravan in a back row under huge dark pine trees it was horrid.
If I had arrived to spend more than a night, there is no way on earth I would have been staying in that caravan. It wasn't very clean, the big dead daddy long legs on the wall in full view was a give away to that. Being under the trees there was an horrendous amount of flies and we had to retreat into the caravan & shut the doors & windows & melt as it was 28 degrees outside despite the shade.
The site itself what can you say.......
the reception is far to small and not enough staff there was always a big queue, although the staff were really helpful. Didn't bother with the payment card, what a stupid idea we only wanted to buy some bread & milk and had to put 20euros on a card to do so and the shop was shut. There is a Lidl at the big roundabout just 5 mins from the site go there for your shopping.
The pool area tiny with only a handful of sunlongers and the water was freezing.
The play area is a waste of time
The noise level rule is a joke, on our 2nd stay the caravan was right alongside the tourers (& no offence to any tourers) but the noise level was uncalled for and completely inconsiderate. The later the time went the louder the noise got, I know people are on holiday but we don't all want to have to listen to everyone else.
The whole site has a dirty, unclean, feel and look about it. Everyone seems to be lined up like soldiers in a row, the pile of 10 plus industrial bins just stuck at the side of the road was an eye sore and I pity the poor person who ends up on the pitch right next to the 2 glass bottle bins.
Although we didn't use the shop we did look in the window and there was absolutely nothing in it.
There is no way on earth this site should be any higher than a 2 star, I think it is mainly used as a stopover site for people travelling up and down the country and that is the feel you get, like no one cares any more and that everyone is just going through the motions. I would not recommend this site to anyone and I would say steer clear. There is not a chance that I would ever consider using this site as a stop over again.
