I thought this place was great. Don't go expecting top top snooty service. Its relaxed but friendly. Breakfast was circa 15 - 19 euro, we walked into the town instead. As usual however, this is a French Village so the timing for meals has to be correct. You will not get lunch after 2pm anywhere and you will need to always book anywhere for dinner (well we had to).

They were great with our 6 year old, but this hotel is not for noisy kid, my other two older teenage boys would have been bored here... there is the beach over a Le Croty, this is quite a nice area to go for the day and not too far.

The Spa is really good and the best views, I have been to some good ones too in Monaco Elat and Barbados etc. Had a neat little jacuzzi bath that really bubbled up with views over the somme only 30 euros.
The rooms are nice, big chairs, comfy bed, bathroom OK
Did not have dinner, stayed for three nights, and we did enjoy it.

I just wanted to like this place so much. Family run, well situated boutique hotel. But I could not help noticing the flaws... Something was not quite right.

This hotel lacks attention to details and to quality. It desperately wants to be more upscale than it is and hopes you won't notice. If you know the place and you are ready to pay the price it is ok. It is well situated. If you travel from outside of France after choosing this place because you liked the pics on www you will be disappointed.

It is not because the hotel is ultimately so bad - it is because it pretends to be something it is not. There is no family feel. There is a feeling that everything is calculated - there is no soul, just mediocre ambition.

And the devil is in details...

First impressions are good. Excellent, ample free parking-unknown in this (too?) attractive town. The poorly kept garden starts to give the game away. Good size bedroom, but minimal wardrobe space, dim bathroom lighting,no bedside tables, badly positioned lights and switches. Vastly overpriced breakfast (14 Euros), with poor quality ham and cheese. Yes,fresh orange juice, but somewhat spoiled by the pips. Only Earl Gray tea bags. Lack of attention to detail goes on. A request for a glass of rosé wine at the bar, was met with " sorry we do not have a bottle opened". The hotel overlooks the Bay of the Somme which means a steep walk down to the main street. This should be the best hotel in Saint-Valery-sur-Somme,but sadly is not.

We have had lunch at the Corderies before now (mixed results: stingy but nice starter, very mediocre main and utterly fabulous dessert)) but this time we stayed. Lovely room. We did not pay a supplement for the view: we are very familiar with it and we were out most of the time anyway. The bed was large, comfy and with wonderful linens. I particularly liked the bedside lamps: they were duo. Ordinary lights and special READING lights!!! The bathroom was large with two basins and a walk in wet room shower, all very clean and agreable to use. There was a separate WC and hand basin. Since we stayed at the begining of the week the restaurant was not open. We could have had lunch on our last day, but as we had business to attend to we couldn't make it in time: they stop serving very early.

Each morning we had breakfast in our room. This was immaculate, with freshly squeezed orange juice in little individual carafes, delicate little viennoiseries, good traditional bread, quality preserves and very good coffee. This was quite sufficient as, when in France....we have lunch! The wheel-in table was covered with a fine table cloth, a linen runner and linen napkins (but sadly there was only one proper height chair, the other was very low: my partner looked like a little boy at his end of the table!).

There appear to be very few people working there: we only saw 2 at a time, and more often only Ambrose who works all hours and who is utterly charming and obliging (unlike the treatment you get at the Hotel du Port et Bains). He also makes a mean Mojito! Very nice at sundown seated on the sofa in the garden. The indoor pool was unused when we were there, so I had a swim: I hate when other people are splashing about.

Altogether it was a very enjoyable stay and we wouldn't hesitate to go back or to recommend it.

We have stayed in St Valery at least 6 times before at different hotels and gite and Les Corderies is by far the most comfortable and happy experience we have had. Our room was large bright and clean with nice linen and a very large comfortable bed. It was well worth paying extra to have the view over the bay. We ate in the restaurant and both the veal and the turbot were cooked to perfection. The breakfast, despite earlier reviews, was good. All ingredients fresh and top class. Good hot coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice, excellent croissant and in addition ham, cheese and boil your own egg. The hotel is family run and we were made to feel very welcome and looked after well.

Room Tip: Pay extra for view of bay

Fabulous! What a lovely hotel, wonderful situation, superb rooms, excellent food, fantastic staff! We have travelled all over France and this is the best hotel and service we have ever had! St Valery sur Somme is a gem of a little town on the Baie de Somme. Must go again as we regret we could not stay longer Les Corderies.

Les Corderies is a modern family run hotel which serves evening meals 5 nights a week. The beds are particularly comfortable with superb bed linen and the rooms are a reasonable size with good ensuite facilitiess. We had a very good view over the rooftops to the Baie du Somme but paid extra for this. The staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. Breakfast is contintental but very adequate and we enjoyed the two dinners we ate in the hotel. We understand the menu is always the same so it could get a bit repetitive after a few days, however there is no shortage of restaurants in the town. Our only problem was finding the hotel in the first place! Our SatNav took us to the town end of Rue des Moulins which is no entry after a few yards. If in doubt head for the old town and the hospital and the SatNav will then get you there!
