“Lovely hotel - well worth a visit just for the breakfast!”
Reviewed 20 April 2013

Stayed here on the way back from a trip to Montrichard, having gone through the town on the way down and decided it was well worth a visit. Very picturesque town, the hotel is slightly away from the main town and consequently quieter.

There is no parking at the hotel, but plenty available outside or in the medieval square nearby. Although parking costs Euros 8 a day, you are only charged for the actual time in the parking period 0900-1900. So, if you arrive at say 1830 and want to leave at 1000 the next morning you can pay for 1.5 hrs and your ticket comes out valid until 1000 the next day. Great system, none of this rushing out before 0900 hrs to feed the meter, like you have to in Britain!

We were made very welcome by the owners (and the dog & cat); the hotel room was clean, comfortable and everything worked, including the Wifi. Nice touches are bottled water, tea facilities and decent toiletries in the room. We didn't eat at the hotel having had a large lunch before arriving, so had a light meal elsewhere.

However, based on the breakfast, we wished we had ; it is by far the best breakfast buffet in France and well worth Euros 11. There is everything you could wish for; cereals, eggs, various cold cuts (meat & fish) & cheeses, homemade pate, rillettes, fresh fruit/salad, various croissants & breads (savoury & sweet) and various hot & cold drinks.

Considering the pitiful fare (croissant, baguette & jam) that we had in other hotels for 9 or 10 Euros, this was incredible value and the quality was superb!

We will be staying again next trip to France and this time will try the evening meal! And definitely have the breakfast again!!

We stayed here overnight on our way back to Calais in August. The hotel was well located close to the water but took ages to get to - we happened by chance to arrive on a Sunday, the second day of their Festival of the Sea, so the town was packed. The room was adequate but nothing special. The hotel doesn't have its own parking and we had to use public parking opposite. We didn't eat there in the evening as we got caught in a thunderstorm and dived into the nearest restaurant, Le Drakkar, where we had a great meal. There was a wide choice for breakfast, thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved St Valery sur Somme itself - and well worth coming during the Festival of the Sea, there were some beautifully decorated houses.

Just back from Saint Valery - wonderful medieval village, beautifully presented and well kept.
The Hotel is in a great location, however if you are a light sleeper then perhaps the rooms on the front may prove noisy. We stayed in Room 9 and superb views but a tad noisy in the mornings.
Coffee Making facilites in the room - we had to request milk. Room was very clean and bed comfortable, but would agree with other reviewers the owner chef had a unique manner for a Hotelier! -Once checked in you are on your own, and whilst he understands and speaks English, doesnt come across as overly enthusiastic to British Visitors - but this may have been as we didnt wish to take breakfast which was 11 euros - there is no lift and I had to ask for assistance with my suitcase up two flights of narrow stairs - this he did begrudgingly, wifi is available.

Great place to wander grab a coffee , hire a bike and explore - recommend the bikes on the front at 16 euros - realy comfortable and solid, great day out to cycle to Le Crotoy and grab breakfast or lunch. So. in brief good hotel for the price 88 Euros twin room, but be prepared for Mr grumpy if decide not too eat. Hotel across the road had 19 Euro Menu that was amazing but always fully booked - and so advice would be to book as soon as you arrive for a treat.

Welcoming staff, clean and well appointed rooms and a very friendly owners' dog! Whilst the owner seemed disappointed that we did not take breakfast at the hotel (due to the €11 price tag per person) we exchanged a joke about it and promised to eat there next time if the price was fairer. I'd recommend dropping off bags at the hotel and parking in the free parking (Parking Gratuit) at the top of the hill (a 10 minute walk to the hotel) rather than paying €8 per day in the Public Car Park opposite. On the whole a very pleasant, well situated hotel with friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere.

4 of us stayed at this traditionaly French hotel on our way back from the Champagne region having originally planned on staying in Abbeville before having our last 2 nights in Le Touquet before the Calais ferry home. We are so glad we did. We received a warm welcome from Maryse Hanquier who showed us to our rooms which were very comfortable and had recently been decorated. The breakfasts were some of the best we had on the whole trip, the owner and chef, Laurent Hanquier making his own conserves and preparing the biggest buffet table I had seen. We decided to stay an extra night and enjoyed a superb evening meal. The restaraunt was packed, I think with locals as we seemed to be the only English people there. We plan to return an have a long weekend there.

The room was very good. The food was not to standard and when we complained to the chef/owner he did not reply and walked away. On departure I commented on this to him and he told me we were just two of twenty and therefore we were wrong. I told him he should be devastated if fault was found with his cuisine. He was very happy to see us leave. No apololgy at any stage. If you stay here, eat elsewhere. Never seen this attitude before in France.

Nice enough place, and good standard of rooms and bed. Good value for money - which was why we chose it. The owner manager became very disdainful when we decided not to eat at the hotel, and was unpleasant and rude to us. We had to catch a ferry, and the breakfast was serverd very late (8.30am start). When we asked to leave at 7am, we were told we could not - we had to wait until the owners got up! Part of staying at a hotel is the welcome and personal contact. Colonne de Bronze; null points.
