We booked a double room in Lismore House Hotel for 15th Sept last July as we are attending a wedding nearby. We have our credit card number by phone. A few days before the event we got a phone call to say that we were being moved to a guest house and that they could not accomodate us - we got no reasonable explanation and the response to our letter of complaint was very off hand - beware - a booking is only a booking as long as it suits the Lismore House Hotel

We did not stay in the hotel, but ate 3 times in the Bar/Restaurnant. Early Bird Menu is available 5-8 p.m. The food was pleasant and the steak good . Service was above average, can eat out or in. A Traditional Hotel, very convenient for exploring Historic Lismore. Ample free parking behind the hotel.Bar can be a bit noisy at times, but staff moved us to a quieter area .

Nice hotel, very friendly and helpfull staff. I was lucky to find a cancellation at last minute and was well looked after. Meals in the bar and restaurent were 9/10 and very good value. Walking distance from lismore Castle and right on the main street => shops, bars and newsagents within stones throw.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms over the bar on Saturday night unless you are a night owl.

We stayed at the Lismore House Hotel on a mid-week deal. We knew we were in for a noisy first night when we saw a bride in an enormous meringue-style wedding dress with bridesmaids in outrageous fluorescent numbers. To be fair we had been put in a corner room far away from the function room but the guests entered and left the bedrooms far into the night which kept us awake. Our room was cosy and comfortable but we honestly thought there were stranded whales in the plumbing system such was the noise coming from the pipes. Breakfast was good and the waiting staff were lovely. We went away for a relaxing rest - unfortunately this did not go to plan. Lismore is quaint and we had one of the best meals ever in O'Brien's Chop House on the main street. Loved the Castle gardens too. Advice: Ask if there is a wedding or function on when you intend to stay there!

Room Tip: Stress you want peace and quiet.

Nice four star hotel. We stayed two nights and were allocated a large room overlooking Lismore Castle. This was a room equipped with bathroom facilities for disabled guests. We asked to be moved to a room with a bath and the staff at reception were so accommodating and moved us to a smaller room on the second floor with a lovely bathroom... With bath! Apart from some strange plumbing sounds , we were comfortable and slept well. Breakfast was divine. Smoked salmon and lots of it with scrambled eggs for me and full Irish breakfast for the other half! Lots of cereal and fruit , brown bread,Jams etc. We also had dinner one evening in the quaint little dining room. We were offered a table in the lounge bar as we were the only two people in the dining room. We were attentively looked after and whilst the food could not be described as particularly special, it was fresh, simple and tasty.

I stay in this hotel regularly and it never disappoints!
Good quality bed linen great views excellent staff.
I eat at the hotel and the food is good but sometimes the menu is a little dull but the quality is always to a good standard. Breakfast is good.
The hotel bar always has great atmosphere and is busy.

Given that the hotel is quite old you expect some quirks. The room was nice and clean, and the ensuite was a weird shape, but to be expected.

I had asked for a quiet room, but it would have been nce to be told that it was up 2 flights of stairs with no lift. Also the plumbing was unbleiveably loud and the water was brown, although there were signs indicating that this is common in the area and not just the hotel. On the Sunday night it was almost impossible to sleep because the music from downstairs was really loud, even though we had been give one of the quietest rooms.

The bar food was good, as were the breakfasts and obviously the cooks take great pride, although the Sunday carvery was poor. Nothing but praise for the waiting staff, couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful.

Overall the hotel is ok. The area is fantastic and it's the only real option, but it wouldn't take much to buck up the standards of the facilities.
