“Good service but poor quality rooms”
Reviewed 6 November 2012

Stayed here for a couple of nights whilst on a business trip. The location of the hotel is ok situated next to the main road into Norwich and he staff offered a good level of service offering help and information when required. Now I know the room cost was quite cheap but that really is no excuse for poor cleanliness (the room was grubby and stank of cigarettes) and basic things like various lights not working or not even light bulbs - pretty disappointing. Evening meals are ok although nothing special - try the Black Boys in the town centre for some nice food. Overall, yes it is cheap and the location is quite handy, but the quality of the rooms is very poor.

Stayed here for 3 nights while visiting family in the area. The motel room was spacious with two good beds and good TV and radio signal. Yes, the room was a little dated and the shower could have done with a bit more pressure, but the bed was notably comfortable and the whole place was extremely clean. The breakfasts here were excellent too, the menu was varied, but the english breakfast was so very well cooked (not greasy at all but very tasty) that I couldn't resist it for the 3 mornings.
The real strength of Ayysham Lodge Hotel is its staff. Without exception, they are professional, friendly and very helpful. They made my stay most enjoyable, nothing was too much trouble .
Situated closeby to all of picturesque Aylsham's amenities and on the main routes to Norwich and Cromer it's perfectly positioned for town, country and beach.
I'd happily recommend this hotel to everyone for it's warm, good old fashioned service.

We stayed at the Aylsham Lodge Hotel for the 1st time for one night. The room was very basic and in dire need of a make over. Various wall lights didn't work. The bed is THE MOST AWFUL bed my wife and I have ever slept in. The old mattress had springs sticking out and the pillows were flat.
The room looked like a TV set from the 70's which is a shame because with some investment ALH could be a nice place to stay.
On the plus side the breakfast was reasonable quality.

For £80.00 per night it definitely was not worth the money.........

Motel style - large rooms but very dated. The mattress was on its last legs , sagging and you could feel the springs. The bathroom had a plastic bath which was chipped and the light switch was broken. It looked like it was a very nice place when it opened but it needs some TLC and it is not worth £80 per night.

Imagine an economy motel in the USA and take away the charm and you will have a good idea of the Aylsham Lodge. We booked at relatively short notice and didn't have much choice at the height of the holiday season in Norfolk.
The room was very basically furnished and clean apart from the odd stain on the carpet, the bed was small and very uncomfortable (far too soft) and the fan in the bathroom didn't work. On the plus side we couldn't hear any traffic noise so from that point of view the room was quiet.
Apart from the Full English which was served quickly and was piping hot, can't really recommend this place unless there is absolutely nowhere else.

We stayed at the Aysham Lodge whilst visiting friends in the Town. We were accompanied by our Cocker Spaniel, Daisy. We were given such a friendly welcome here including Daisy, which is such a novelty these days. The room was spotlessly clean & very comfortable. I had previousely read a review which said the rooms were "dated". Ok, so yes they are, maybe, to some, but in my opinion gave me cleanliness every time along with comfort. Now to the Breakfast, well on the first morning, we left Daisy in the car while we went into the restaurant, the breakfast was outstanding with everything you would want. It was well presented & tasted wonderful. During our meal, we were approached by a member of staff who told us that Daisy had ordered sausage for her breakfast, which was then given to us to take out to the car, She was very appreciative! When we went for breakfast the following morning, we found that a table had been laid out in the bar for us so that this time we were able to bring Daisy in to eat her breakfast along with my husband & I. Her breakfast was brought to her by the chef, and following a great deal of admiring & fuss she ate everything. For all you Dog owners out there, we can highly recommend this establishment. All the staff are most friendly & welcoming. The Lodge is situated closeby to all the towns amenites, and Aylsham is a lovely Town. We would definately stay here again (much to Daisy's delight) and would recommend it to anyone. Once again well done to the owner & all it's staff,
