My boyrfriend and I stayed at Neptune Pwani in September. It was an awesome hotel and staff was very friendly. The weather was fantastic and sunny for our entire stay. the buffet was the best yet! A wide selection of food and drinks. You also get one free "Al a Carte" night in the Pizzeria upstairs, it is most certianly something you must do. The pools are stunning asnd the beaches amazing. The beach boys are annoying but just be firm and friendly and they will leave you alone.

the only problems we incountered was with the money - The locals did not want to accept any dollars that were not issued after 2006. Also they do not like to accept their own currency - The Shilling - So rather be prepared and take dollars with you. If you need to draw more money you have to go into town which is 45 min away and they want to charge you 100dollars just to go into town to draw money - so I would rather suggest you pay for a stone town tour if you are in that predicament.

The tour i really suggest you take is the Safari Blue toue! it is an all day tour and was spectaclar! Ask for Juma at the hotel.. He was by far cheaper than any other tour guide.

All in all its was an amazing holiday and would go back anyday!

We simply wanted to share our experience of this brilliant hotel with everyone else - including prospective honeymooners - as this site was our starting point after a personal recommendation from Somak tours (great holiday provider) and a South African colleague. Both of us have travelled extensively yet we both felt this was a hotel and resort that was up there with the best of our experiences to date. Do not be misled by the websites photos - they simply do not do the resort justice. We went all-inclusive - simply the only way to do it - no problems with alcohol and not a case of limited or watered down choices - quite the opposite. The buffet restaurant had a huge range of choices and at a very high standard too. We simply didn't need to go to the (paying) A La Carte restaurant - though we understood it was also good.

A very clean, exceptionally well maintained resort with perfect pools and swim-up bars. Staff are very friendly and nothing is too much hassle (note the staff are seemingly paid very poorly, yet nevertheless do a great job - $60 pcm put things into perspective and a tip goes along way on the island). The beach was stunning, blue skies, green seas, white beaches and coconuts prepared for you by the gardeners if you take the time to speak to them and share a joke or two. The sea was lovely too with white sandbars to lie on at low tide.

Our room was lovely - 4 poster bed with mosquito nets hanging down - large balcony with a great sea view and very clean, large shower for 2! and twin basins.

The 'beach boys' or hawkers are in fact very friendly and if you are polite but firm and tell them you do not want to be disturbed then they do not persist. We were not rude with them and in turn, neither were they back to us. If you want some bargins from the huts along the shoreline, make sure you visit them a couple of times and bargin hard. Carry small denominations of US dollars and Euros too - they accept both. Top-tip: play soccer with the beach boys in the evenings and soon you will have discounts and a friendly chat whenever you are on the beach.

Snorkling and scuba was amazing - ScubaDo Zanazibar is highly recommended.

The Spa was a delight and well worth the money. Book a day or two before you intend to get any treatments to ensure getting a slot. The staff there were first class and very good with the treatments - a 50 min Thai massage for two is highly recommended.

Other top tips:
1. Take hardwearing beach shoes for the shallows due to the sea-urchins and coral. Also it is worth taking your own mask and snorkel for the shallows - amazing fish life.
2. In Sep the sun was deceivingly hot - for us Brits - factor 15-30 essential to start off.
3. As usual - spare set of clothes and wash kit when travelling - Kenya Airways appeared to be regularly cancelling late evening flights from Niarobi on the return leg - so be warned.
4. Buy a Zanzibar comprehensive book and read up before you leave - great ones on Amazon.
5. Be careful of trips run by the beach boys - it is worth paying the extra for recommended tours but then again you may be feeling adventurous depending on your budget!
6. Take some books and leave them at the end of your trip - there is a shared 'open' library where you can 'read and leave' for others.

7. Finally - if you want peace and quiet in the evening - the accommodation to the rear of the resort is best - as the bar noise can go on at least until midnight most nights - and for those people on the lower levels and nearer to the beach by the restaurant area - it must have been a distraction. The other advantage of the rear properties is the view over the beach and shoreline and the distance / walk back is negligible.

Hope this has helped with any potential decision!

(The wife has told me to shut up now - married life eh!........)
