“Great”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 April 2010

My husband is from Panama so we visit at least twice a year. We try to visit at least one beach resort each time we go. Panama has only been catering to tourists for about the past 6 or 7 years. Before that everything was centered around the Panama Canal. They have some great beaches that are now being developed. The Breezes Resort is on a great beach. It is one of the few resorts that we have been to that serve you on the beach! This is an all inclusive resort. If you are a heavy eater or drinker, the price is great. The attention they give you is better than we have ever received at any other property in Panama. The best time to go would be mid-week. But that is probably the case with any resort! We had a rental car so we drove. It is a little more than a one hours drive from the city. It was a little hard to find because they did not have a large sign on the highway. Friends told us what to watch for. We only stayed one night due to lack of time. But we will go back. The only negative I can think of, they don't have enough seating for the nightly entertainment. You have to use the pool lounges which are not very comfortable. It was really hot when we were there so the air conditioning in our room could have been cooler, probably centrally controlled. English, Spanish and French is spoken by most of the staff. We arrived at 10:00 AM and we were immediately given access to all including our room. Check in is 3:00 PM but they had a room for us. If the room had not been available, they would have still given us access to all facalities, food and drink. Check out is 12:00 noon but we didn't leave until 2:00PM, still able to induldge in all the food and drink. I'm sure the prices change with the seasons but we thought we received great value for our money ($116.00 per person). It is they only place I have ever been that you get your full 24 hour period, plus !

My husband and I booked last minute and travelled from Toronto to the Breezes resort April 10-17, 2010. We travelled Sunwing and upgraded to Elite Plus for the extra leg room for him (he's 6'4"). Money well spent. The day of travel on either end of the trip was about 11 hrs from the time we got to the airport (3hrs before departure) to the time we arrived at our destination at either end of the trip. Be prepared for a long travel there and home.

The flight was nice, about 5 hrs long. Champagne on take off, wine with dinner. They gave us bottled water for the ride to the hotel (2 hr trip) and stopped at an Esso On The Run along the way for a restroom break as the bus didn't have a bathroom. We were given info packages which included our room keys on the bus ride, with instructions to get our passports photocopied at the front desk once we arrived at the hotel. A good idea would be to bring your luggage to your room, have a drink, and then get this done. The line up was frustrating after an 11 hr day, and there is really no rush to get it done, in my opinion.

We got to the resort around 10 pm and the buffet was still open so we were able to have a snack. If you are arriving later than that, be sure to buy something at the gas station on the way or you'll be starving until the next morning.

The resort was clean and beautiful, the staff were pleasant, and very helpful. We had an oceanview room with a balcony on the west side of the resort, where the construction is. Construction was 7-3 Monday to Friday, so it didn't both us at all since we were up usually by then (or almost, anyways) and were gone well past 3 pm from the room. They are long past drilling and jackhammers anyways. Puttting the finishing touches on the condos.

The food was good - we ate at the Steakhouse and the Japanese, and both were satisfactory. We were pleased with the selection on the buffet. One day they had beef tenderloin at lunch, and it was unreal! Melt in your mouth. I have no idea why someone would eat at the poolside grill for lunch instead of the buffet. The food there was not so good. But, as my husband said, "Sometimes, you just want a hotdog" P.S. they aren't Schneiders.

We tried to go swimming in the ocean one day and got scratched up. If the red flag is up, don't go. It was up 6/7 days we were there, but we didn't care as we are more the pool type anyways. (Swim-up bar was great!!!) The pools were multi-level and refreshing, but no so cold that you were shocked. The beach was great for shell hunting, but the ocean will wash them out as fast as it washes them in, so it was fun to run and "hunt" them before they disappeared. I walked the beach during the day by myself and felt very safe, and saw no one but other tourists from the resort. It was great!

We ate once off of the resort for supper at the suggestion of the Sunwing rep, Daniel. The restaurant is El Galeon, and it is a 24 dollar (round trip) taxi ride. We had a great supper for $45 and because they didn't have lobster as I requested, the owner came out and gave us a complimentary bottle of wine. Very nice! We were quite pleased with the quality of food, the service, and the quaintness of the restaurant. The menu was Spanish and English so that wasn't a problem. The waiter messed up the order a bit - but no big deal. Make sure he sees you pointing to what you want on the menu of you can't speak the language.

We did the Eco Tour and the ATV Experience. Both were great, the ATV being our fave. We are experienced ATVer's and still were able to find some challenge and excitement in the ride. The 9 am tour sounded more interesting than the 11:30 so take the early ride. It's not as scorching hot either. All of the tours offered seemed to show you the country and taught you some history. I was pleased with the selection, as I am tired of the "booze cruises" that you get in the more touristy countries.

The worst part of the resort was the entertainment. Not so good at all. So we hung out at the piano bar, where there was a fantastic pianist, Juan. Good drinks and good music there.

And as a previous poster suggested, have the cappuccino at the piano bar. It's delicious! Each morning I would go down and make our dinner reservations, grab my husband a double espresso and myself a capuccino from the piano bar, and bring them to our room to enjoy on the balcony.

We both had the Sea Breeze pedi at the Spa. $35 each which was absolutely reasonable. Took about 45 min and the girls did a great job. It was my husband's first pedi and he thoroughly enjoyed it.

The golf course was just opening when we were there. We spoke with a guy who golfed almost daily while there, and he said it was quite challenging. He brought his own clubs, they didn't have clubs to rent when we were there but I bet they do now, as they were getting their equipment in gradually while we were there. A good tip is to not book golf through the resort. If you go up to the clubhouse and book it yourself you save about $20 a round. No lie. The resort takes a fee for booking for you.

All in all we had a fantastic time. Weather was great, and it was the quiet getaway that we needed! They are supposed to get an airport closer to the resort in the next 3 yrs so hopefully that will help with the travel time. We'd definitely recommend it to friends and family!

My wife and I where At Breezes in April. They have a beautiful location and everything is superclean and new. Loved wandering pool to pool and the hot tubs are the best.

Travel to and from the city is very long but the guides are great at keeping us entertained. There's lots of interesting history with all their facts about Panama's history.

Walks on the beach are fantastic but the water is too rough for little kids to go into.

We went on four tours and had a wonderful time, totally worth the money. The Eco Tour of the rainforest was very cool. Saw some monkeys and parrots.
The city tour was a walking tour and the guide very informative and interactive. We took the boat up the PANAMA canal and saw the locks system.

The only negative was that the staff do not speak english so if you need help with anything you are on your own. They are very polite and attentive but need to learn some more English.
Had a great time and learned all about Panama

We loved this place. After afew days in Panama city we headed down the coast.
The hotel has a great location although get a beachside room. The beach is fantastic as you can walk for miles in either direction.Occasionally you cant swim in the sea due to the tide but the pools are great.
The choice of food and beverage is great and the Japanese was very good fun for the whole family. The buffet was wonderfull the only issue is not putting on too much weight in a week.
staff are very friendly but you can tell tourism isnt in the country yet as a few were very willing but not 100% effective.
Overall a great relaxing holiday in a fantastic country.

The bottom line is that both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Breezes. It was cozy, relaxing and full of sun: exactly what we were looking for... and at a great price!

Since everyone has different tastes, I'll try to stick to the facts:

Good:
- Brand new hotel, very clean (staff is cleaning the place non stop);
- The buffet's food was great (I heard some complaining, but I have no idea what that was about... ok, so there was no pizza, food is still delicious);
- Water is drinkable (we heard of no one being sick while we were there);
- Spacious and comfortable room (not luxurious, but very cozy);
- Very friendly staff (please tip!);
- Brand-name alcohols, drinks at the piano bar are great (thanks Didier!);
- A lot of sun (and it's strong!).

Neutral:
- This is a very kid-friendly place and NOT a party place (good or bad, depending on what you want);
- I wasn't thrilled by the excursions... they were ok, but not more. Some people who were with us were more enthusiastic about them;
- I thought the food at the restaurants was not impressive: I'd stick with the buffet.

Bad:
- Yes, there is a stink when you walk near the est-side creek, but I wasn't bothered by it. If you spent all day in the upper-east-side of the pool, I guess it might be disturbing.
- You often hear multiple sources of music (entertainment, dining room, piano bar), kind of annoying.
- There are some constructions near buy, I generally didn't notice them, but on one of the days there was a truck going back and forth near by the beach.
- If you want entertainment, you'll be disappointed. They need to work on their shows...
- Yes, it's far from pretty much everything... getting to the city, airport or anywhere is a minimum of an hour ride.

We were at Breezes from March 19th -April 3rd. Staff was outstanding, Food was great-typical Buffet but service wonderful. Did the other 3 restaurants twice each thanks to Sun Wing making arrangements for their people to do reservations early on Sunday mornings.
Isobel was a great asset for Canadians and we wish her the best of luck and hope her work placement turns into a full time job with Breezes. Found all the staff from cleaners to front desk staff friendly and helpful. Daniel from SunWing was great. Found the tours a little too long and expensive compared to other places. Probably because of the distance required to travel anywhere. Lovely, just picking up beach towels when you needed them and not having to have a towel card. This is a family resort and some people think you just bring your little ones there, turn them loose and lifeguards will look after them.. Easter week-end there seemed to be a lot of crying infants on the deck and kids running loose in the buffet. All told it was a great trip and a nicely laid out resort.

Came back just recently from great two weeks of vacation where I stayed with my boyfriend. We enjoyed it A LOT!!! If you are looking for peaceful, nice, good rest and relaxation, Breezes is for you 100%! Some notes:
Weather was always hot, sunny and ocean water is so warm that you get out of it only because you'r tired to swim. Beautiful design of resort which is at the top of the hill and goes downwards right to the beach. Pools were excellent, clean water, though we didn't use them since we love ocean a lot more. 4 bars have all great selection of alchohol bevarages with some premium labels. Also, stuff is bringing you drinks and takes drinks orders while you'r at the beach which was VERY VERY convinient! 4 restaurants: Taboga (local bufett)- was good, maybe a bit similar but was'nt a problem. Japanese restaurant has two divisions: Sushi bar and Japanese (teppanyaki). We spent the most nights in this restaurant. However, I was a bit dissappointed about sushi bar. If you'r a sushi lover, don't expect much in terms of quality and amount. Sushi were not made with fish but rather cucumber/avocado/mango. Italian restaurant - was awesome!! and steak house near the pool was great too. Pretty much every other night (or even more) we went out to one of those restaurants. We booked most of them in advance on our 1st day, but even later it wasn't usually a problem to make reservation afternoon for the same day.

We took three trips.
1. Panama Canal Transit - boat tour through panama canal for apprxm 3-4hrs of boat ride. It was awesome experience!!! now i can say I DID IT!
2. ATV Cars. Well well. I was extremely enthusiastic about this tour before, however once we were driving up/downhill 45degrees on mountains with all those rocks..... i was very very scared. However I loved it a lot!! If you'r extreme lover - ATV is for YOU!
3. we booked taxi for $150 for full day to go to Panama City. Our driver was very nice guy who was driving us to old panama city first, waited us everywhere and then drove to the new panama, where we had good dinner at columbian restaurant!

The only bad thing was that our room was close to nearby construction and starting around 8am you hear construction noise. We asked to change our room, staff was very friendly to that and we moved to the other side of hotel (different building) but there was another construction of local conodimiums nearby. So, noise still appeared in the morning and it bothered our sleep a bit.
Another thing which was already mentioned several times.. is the lack of shade. Hopefully they will add umbrellas to the beach. And of course the most annoying this was people who drop their towels on the spot in shade..and DO NOT COME BACK for several HOURS on a beach. come on!!

Other than that, everything was perfect!! Staff was nice and friendly and very helpful!
We'd love to come back! And we loved Panama!
