Love the outdoor space..the fort was amazing. My high energy child was in his element!!! It is so beautiful. Army canteen on site serves cheap and cheerful food...the usual fish and chips and scampi and chips..and soup. There is a restaurant in site too but it was shut when we were there.

The musuem inside is very small but packed with information. One of the BEST dressing up corner I have the pleasure to come across. Lots of uniforms to try on.

Thank SharonBugs

Third visit there for our family and always something different to see, would give this place 'more then excellent' if possible.

A must for those, the café is excellent too !

The Regimental Museum covers the collections of the regiments which make up the Royal Regiment of Scotland, from the 79th, and the Seaforths, onwards in time. The staff, both paid, and volunteers, you will find both knowledgeable and very helpful. There is a fascinating range of objects on display from all the various campaigns the participating regiments have been involved in.
Fort George itself is massive - Edinburgh Castle could fit in its parade ground - and it would take several hours to see everything to which the public have access.
Access to the Museum is free, although donations are welcome. Access to Fort George is by payment at the visitor Centre for non-members of Historic Scotland.

I visited the fort after a Culloden visit too. Winding through a quaint village, the fort is expansive and comprises of many parts. What impressed me was the glimpses you get of current army life too - as it is a working barracks - there is not public access to everything. The cafe food was excellent (I have found most chafes connected with Historic Scotland to be goog - but I didn't find this as over priced as some. I was greatly moved by The Highlanders' Museum...well presented. The walk around the walls provides great views - I didn't see dolphins, but I believe they are local residents.
