Hotel Museum George Molfetas feels like a secret waiting to be discovered. The sort of place you can’t wait to tell your friends about. Spread the word. “You really must stay here!”

Concealed up a narrow lane beside the church in Faraklata hidden behind a heavy wooden door you will find a delightful sanctuary of such rare charm.

The allure of the peaceful inner courtyard and the lovingly decorated rooms is further enhanced by the impeccable hospitality and exceptional kindness of hosts Katerina and Barry. From the moment you step inside you are received like family with the warmest and most genuine of welcomes.

Then there’s the joy of Katerina’s sensational food eaten out on the balcony in the shadow of the bell-tower listening to Barry’s hand-picked jazz tunes.

It’s like no other place we’ve stayed in, wholly enchanting.

All who are thinking about a trip to Kefalonia should consider Hotel Museum George Molfetas. “You really must stay here!”

Room Tip: We stayed in Eros which was homely and cosy. We however did have a tour of the other rooms which wer...

We were for days thinking and discussing the fascinating morning before you left: we could have stayed for ever and talk, talk about so many things! It seemed unreal that we had just met some days ago. So much of common ground-even Wales, would you believe!!!!
We thank you with our minds and souls for the lovely times we had together.

I am a loss to find the right words to describe this wonderful hotel and the impact our stay has had on us. We arrived tired and a little disappointed in a holiday on another island, We arrived needing TLC but of course we were not to know we were to receive that and much much more. We were warmly greeted by Barry who kindly helped with our cases and showed us to our marvellous room Eros,it was lovingly decorated with the most comfortable bed we have slept in while away. The linen was lovely and the pillows soft.We loved the sweets and discovering them.
There is more to this place than a hotel, you feel like welcome guests in the home of friends you have never met.I felt an immediate connection with the place and most of all with the wonderful Katerina and Barry, whose kindness made us feel welcomed and considered,we so enjoyed their company, more than i can articulate. We were treated to our first breakfast of pancakes and homemade jams and of course the delicious local honey.Nothing is quite what it seems here there are layers and layers for those of of right mind to discover.Even the pancakes had a story of ancient barley flour and discovered urns.Katerina is highly intuitive and made my husband her herbal teas specially for his cold.We now have ginger tea and organic honey at home, but hers was all made from fresh herbs. We ate the best food we have ever had on holiday, foods cooked with love and skill and care.fantastic bread, muffins. lamb stew or and Katerina makes the best pie ever, three meats and the best taste of our holiday but then there was her chocolate mousse ah,if only i could blink and be back with them talking and discovering common interests and new tastes. We will be no different to anyone who has ever visited. I felt truly considered, more than a guest. I cried as i left and I don't know why but were i never to travel again I would feel very blessed to have stayed at the Museum Hotel George Molfetas. Please go,be kind to yourself and please go.A kind of bliss will ensue and your soul will be restored.

Room Tip: don't choose let it happen the right room will be given to you, this place has no bad rooms all h...

It is our turn now to get emotional.
With your review you have just erased any doubt that we should carry on and fight our way into continueing to run our little "dream" hideaway. Only thinking that we would not have met you, if we were not here at the time you would be looking for our little light on the "door". We thank you for being just as you are:
sentimental and artistic and dreamers and learned and giving and aknowledging the gift of life.

I am still discovering the beauties of Greece, but I can say that after experiencing the warm and friendly welcome of Katerina and Barry, the level of excellence will be difficult to reach for any other places.

What to say... excellent food, home made, precious advises on where to go, interesting and captivating discussions around some good Cephalonian wines... I will not forget my first visit to this beautiful island, and remain looking forward sleeping again in one of those beautifully decorated rooms and great beds (believe I've been traveling around the world, it is the first time I slept so well, away from home !).

Hope to visit you again soon, Katerina and Barry !

We have just come back from a few days spent ( not enough...) in this unique place ... I have stayed in many hotels around the world as well as in Greece , this one is certainly apart and from far the best in many ways. The rooms are each unique , every detail is well thought for the visitor to be more than happy, the home made food is delicious , Katerina being an excellent cook as well as a perfect hostess. Barry and her made us feel at home at once, their care and warm welcome made our stay unforgettable. One discovers the real meaning of the word Filoxenia thanks to them. We are looking forward to go back... If there is one place for you to go in Greece, this is it. On the beautiful island of Cephalonia, the George's Molfetas museum hotel reunites charm, taste and authenticity to make our stay memorable. A hidden gem in the heart of the Ionian islands!

Drinking the herbal tea that we used to drink together until yesterday, I had a lump in my throat as I read your review and saw you family picture. Barry said this morning: "how many days the kids have gone?", and it was only yesterday. Thank you, thank you all, for honouring us with your stay, for being family for four days and becoming friends for many more!

Katerina and Barry couldn't have made us feel more welcome at their little oasis in the Kefalonian hills. Our room was full of character and the breakfasts in the sunny courtyard were absolutely superb, a real treat! Katerina's wonderful home-made dinners were a treat every night and we felt totally spoiled! Not cheap, and a little bit out of town, but definitely worth it for a special occasion.

Room Tip: The Eros room, tucked away in the corner of the courtyard, was fantastic

Dearests,
How divine to get a warm review right in the heart of winter. It was a boost for my usual uncertainties and the winter blues. We do not live without all of you, our "kids", to cook for, to love and care.
Thank you, thank you, again and again.
Love,
Katerina and Barry

Far away from the tourist thoroughfares there nestles a hidden gem. The Hotel George Molfetus is a little slice of heaven on this absolutely beautiful island. Tranquil, romantic, secluded, picturesque. This is not the place to come if you want five star hotel facilities - a pool, a gym, nightlife. It is a place to come for those who appreciate the beauty of details, a warm welcome and difficult goodbyes.

The hotel is simply perfect. Beautiful rooms set in stunning Venetian architecture and more than a hint of magic. Katerina and Barry couldn't have done more to make us feel welcome and the food is out of this world (I still long for grape syrup in the mornings and chocolate mousse every night!). Riffling through old photos whilst drinking a glass of the locally sourced wine and smelling the pork roasting downstairs was an awesome start to any evening.

The hotel is isolated, although well known amongst taxi drivers (we had no problem getting there from the airport - it took about half an hour and cost approx. 25 euros) but you really need a car to get out and see the island. Nothing is far away here, but Faraklata is well positioned fairly centrally to make most excursions easy and the village itself is pretty to wander around, especially during one of the breathtaking sunsets (check out the sheep herds and the amazing bells). Katerina is also an expert guide and suggested visits to places we never would have found ourselves - well worth consulting her before hitting the road.

This isn't a place for hotel guests, it is a place for house guests, and what you give in enjoyment and appreciation you get back ten fold from Katerina and Barry in care and attention. It is a very very special place that soothes the soul and the senses and, I don't doubt, never really lets you entirely leave. Sublime.

Hotel George Molfetas is without doubt a very special place to stay. We stayed there for a week in September and felt we were well and truly spoilt by our hosts Katerina and Barry. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The quiet village location, the perfectly decorated and antique furnished rooms, the fantastic music, the spectacular meals and most of all the warmth, love and caring of Katerina made the holiday one the best we have ever had. Katerina and Barry you have made a little piece of heaven at your hotel and we hope to return next year.
