We were lucky enough to be at the reopening of The Oliver Press Taverna which is just 400 metres from the airport terminal adjacent to the petrol station. Don't be put off with its location. This place is a dream. Nothing fancy here but a very rustic ambiance with many old artefacts collected from all over the island. Babis & Larisa reopened back in 2011 and claim to be the oldest taverna on the island. Since then each time we visit Kefalonia we make sure we eat with them as many nights as we can. Within days of opening it became obvious Babis had hidden talents that far exceeded the usual tourists menu. You can be adventurous or traditional here by eating food prepared fresh each day or plan ahead and seek something special. If Babis can find it he sure can cook it. It's usually prepared with "a little garlic" and well worth waiting for. They are open every night and during the closed-season when ex-pats and locals make the most of what has to be the best of Greek and Mediterranean food, anywhere!
During the wonderful summer evenings there is plenty of outside seating and Saturday nights are a riot of music and people enjoying their holidays to the full. Better book a table.....!!!
