“A good hotel to stay in a traditional greek island”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

If you are looking for nightlife and heavy tourism then Fourni is absoultely not for you. However if you want to get back to basics on an undeveloped island but still wanted to have a comfortable hotel then this is the one for you. The hotel was really good with clean and well furnished rooms. Rooms at the top have food views but remember that you are going to have to fo up a lot of stairs to get to it. The breakfast was the traditional greek style but had a really great choice every day so you won't end up staving from the breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Fourni itself has very few restaurants and practically all specialise on fish and lobster. None of them will have a menu and little english is spoken so be prepared to have to order your food by pointing and notes on scraps of paper but that will be the appeal ro some travellers like ourselves. The cost of the fish was the cheapest we have paid for many years of idsland hopping.

A few beaches are available and we picked Psili Amos which was a 20 minute walk from the hotel. This was quite a small secluded beach with a great bar hugging the cliff pfrobiding good snacks and great chill out music.

This island and the hotel wil not be for everyone but if you do like to get back to basics and be at an unspoilt island then Fourni is for you.

Room Tip: We had room 3 on building 2 which was a floor below the top floor. One of the smaller balconies but...

If you are reading this, you are likely planning a trip to one of Greece's lesser known islands. You should know that Fourni is not a resort of high-end hotels but rather a small fishing island that also happens to host tourists. The Hotel Archipelagos is probably the nicest hotel on the island -- clean room, friendly owner (who speaks English), balconies overlooking the harbor, and a pretty, shaded porch in the front where you can eat breakfast or just relax. The downside is the steep stairs leading up to most buildings. (Fourni seems devoid of elevators and taxis, so pack light since you'll be carrying your luggage from the ferry dock to wherever you'll be staying, and that usually means up.) Free WiFi is available only on the porch and breakfast room, not in the bedrooms. Our bathroom was marble-tiled and modern, although no hair dryer was provided. The room are simple and clean, with air conditioning. (We didn't try the AC because the nights got cool enough.) Because Fourni is a rural island, you'll hear cats, dogs, and roosters at all hours, but I found that part of the charm. The hotel entrance is on the main street, to the left as you leave the ferry, even though your room will be up above. Because the owner isn't on the property at all times, look for a person holding a sign as you leave the ferry. There is no front desk, and the door to the hotel will be locked. We found the Hotel Archipelagos to be a memorable place to stay in Fourni. I'd come back here in a heartbeat, provided it is still beating after I carry my luggage up the stairs.

We were extremely impressed with Hotel Archipelagos. The room was large, clean, with a very comfortable bed, balcony with view of the harbour, and a spacious well-kept bathroom with a bathtub! Service was excellent at this hotel - the owner picked us up at the port, cleaning was done meticulously every day, and the staff packed us a nice breakfast to keep as we were leaving at 7am in the morning. The grounds of the hotel are very well maintained too and we could smell the heady aroma of the flowers along the stairs every evening. Breakfast was generous with a buffet spread of boiled eggs, ham, cheese, yoghurt, bread, traditional cookies, homemade compote, and rice pudding. Overall, we enjoyed our stay so much that we extended our time there by two nights.

Very good service, considering this is a rural island. Very good breakfast based on local products. Relatively new, clean and offers all required amenities. Top floor rooms offer better view, at the expense of climbing a lot of steps...

it was a bit difficult to get there, as we took a ferry from the port of piraeus, and the voyage was quite long, we were advised that we could take an airplane to the nearby island of samos, and then take a ferry from there.
i suspect the archipelagos hotel is the best choice for this island (actually it turned to be a group of smaller islands). it's located in the harbour, but because of the limited traffic due to remote location it's not that noisy. great breakfasts! all products are local, fresh, perfect!
be prepared, there is nothing else to do there, except for enjoying the sea, the nature and local fresh kitchen.

A good quality, good value family hotel.
Great location overlooking the harbor. The rooms are very clean and with excellent room service.
The staff is friendly and very polite and attentive. The breakfast is well cared for, not to be missed.
All in all a hospitable place to stay. I recommend it and would certainly stay over again.

Hotel overlooking the harbour, we had room 6 in the second building (see photos). Great view but 66 steps up to the room! Very clean, towels & linen changed every two days. Breakfast typical continental but all fresh. Room had very efficient air-con, which was a must when we were there. Bathroom supplied with toiletries. Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Top floor gives a great view of the harbour but make sure you are able to climb up and down the many...
