“Great Location.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 June 2014

We were part of a GBTours coach party at the Wessex Hotel for a weekend break. The hotel was fairly good. Staff encountered were pleasant and helpful.
Our first floor room overlooked the car-park and, beyond it, the street that gives the village its name.
I think that this is one of the few hotels to offer a bathroom and a separate WC. Although a bit tired, the decor was OK. The place was clean and warm.
Friends deplored the lack of TV, we learned that the entire floor had been without the facility for several days despite a reasonably modern flat screen device in the room.. It seems that cables were disconnected and the managerial people were unable or unwilling to do much about it.
That said, at the price it was Very Good.
The location was excellent and our stay included visits to Glastonbury, Wells and Bath.

Room Tip: It may be that rooms at rear avoid traffic noise.

Stayed the weekend on coach tour break(GB coach tours)
What a great hotel. Clean room, comfortable bed, nice choice of evening meals and lovely staff.Shared a table with six other people on the tour who were great company.A good base for visiting Somerset. Street itself is just that, a street with the Clark's shopping village containing lotsof discount shops. Also a shoe museum in the high street.

3 nights spent here with a cycling group. Staff friendly and helpful. Lock-up room provided for our bikes. Separate room provided for our breakfasts and dinners, and for each entire evening. Good base for some nice cycle rides (especially down the hill into Cheddar Gorge), great pubs for lunch, Glastonbury and Wells nearby, and (of course) shopping at the outlets less than a 5 minute walk.

Room Tip: We asked for a twin room and were given a triple, so lots of space. Also, rooms away from the road...

I stayed at this hotel for a weekend to visit family. Well, I will certainly coming back to this hotel. The staff are lovely, and approachable, the bedrooms are comfortable and spacious. The food was just right. I must mention the dashing receptionist Jamie. He was very helpful, checking me in and ensuring I had all the knowledge about my room and stay at the hotel.

Long weekend for a friend's birthday. Very good price with local travel company. Hotel was a little 'tired' and could do with some freshening up. Having said that our bathroom & WC had been recently refurbished but needed extractor fans. The beds in our room were pretty old and squeaked a lot! Linen, towels and the room itself were all clean. Food was pretty good for the price, 3 course evening meal and a continental and hot breakfast. Plenty of parking. The entertainment was average. The best part was the staff, they were friendly and welcoming and the restaurant manageress was so, so funny (LOL). Her bingo calling on Sunday evening was hilarious! Everyone was extremely attentive and helpful. Would definitely go again.

Room Tip: Rooms on 2nd floor are quieter.

Original two night stay turned into three. Staff very friendly and willing to help. Reception staff particularly good. Plenty of car parking. Room spacious and spotlessly clean. Coffee, milk and biscuits resupplied daily. Particularly impressed that although entertainment going on during the evening on the floor below ours absolutely no noise penetration at all.
The hotel was very warm including the bedroom however the windows actually open!! So nice fresh air available. In all a great stay and thank you to all staff. Unable to comment regarding food quality in the evenings we only had breakfasts in the hotel and for these the choice and quality of food was good.
