Mount Amanzi is a great venue for a weekend away, especially if you're from Joburg, it's less than an hours drive. The resort is fantastic, with ample of activities for the kids to spend the day, it is well maintained and very neat, clean and safe. The kids were eager to catch some fish, but it seemed that the dams are not stocked at all. With the big number of fisherman on the various dams, I only saw 1 fish being caught the entire weekend. Only used the heated pool which was very well kept, even though it was quite full due to the cooler weather. The bar service at poolside was very good and the drinks were reasonably priced. The general pool area was great and we spent a relaxing afternoon lazing around the pool. The chalets could do with an upgrade though, they are extremely small and sometimes become claustrophobic for our family of 4. The main bed is right outside the bathroom and right next to the kitchen, so there is absolutely no privacy. The kids slept in the loft upstairs, which contains 3 single beds, but to use the bathroom during the night, they would have to come downstairs, waking everyone up in the process. The chalets need a major upgrade as well as a re-design, they just do not work for families. On the plus side, the chalets are fully serviced (except on Sundays), and have all the utensils to make your stay very comfortable, as well as aircons to warm up the chilly morning. All in all Mount Amanzi offers great value for money for a relaxing weekend away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

It has been a while since we last visited and were pleasantly surprised with a number of upgrades done. The price is right even for South Africans. And a weekend away is just wonderful. The facilities are great – everything you have in your own house, from a frying pan to a micro and a nice stove with an oven and a braai. The only thing I did not find was a hair dryer. Facilities in the resort include hot and cold pools, put-put, a games room, activities for children, a pool lounge, fishing, tennis, restaurants and a small shop (expensive and not well stocked except for ice cream). There are also beautiful black swans and antelope and other animals. And huge play areas as well as nice views of the river and even the Hartbeespoort dam wall. We were informed about possible load shedding but it did not happened (and there are wall mounted lights in the chalets for these times that are battery powered). The staff are all exceptional and go out of their way to accommodate all needs. On Fridays the games room is closed but we asked for put-put equipment and was attended to with a huge smile. You can book in early and enjoy all the facilities and come back later to reception to get the keys to the chalet and this is also true on the day that you leave – check out of the chalet but you are allowed to stay the whole day in the resort. Will try to go again - soon.

Room Tip: prices go with number of people as well as the location in the resort (the bigger chalets have nicer...

four of my girlfriends and I booked for a 'BOOK Club gals weekend away" We were all very impressed with the Chalet and housekeeping staff. The facilities and pools hot and cold were inviting and first class. We all enjoyed our stay. The shortage of electricity on the 2 occasions was unpleasant, but we were happy to be invited to the main restaurant for tea and coffee.
We were very disappointed in the Spa. We all wanted treatments in excess of R1500.00 and were disappointed to hear that there was only one lady available as the other was on leave!!!
The accommodations all seemed fully booked and they were very busy. The maintenance manager eagerly secured the "rocky wall" near the car park and the ground staff cleaned and maintained the area near the chalet constantly. The noise and screeching coming from the 2 villas below carried on regardless and the "lady's" seemed to have no regard for other guests privacy or silence. We eventually had to play cards inside the chalet as there noise and music was breaking the sound barrier and we could not hear ourselves. We did report this, and security was helpful, for a while and then they too gave up. The restaurant is world class, breakfast was the best!!

Room Tip: Units further away from each other seem to be quieter. Only one car per car port per Lodge
