The Anchor Bar and Restaurant in Gulluk (not Bodrum) is certainly worth a visit to enjoy the ambience and the excellent food. They have a new chef installed here (Summer 2012) and it's been a change for the better. James prepares and cooks delicious steaks that melt in your mouth and leave you wanting more. We also had beef stroganoff one evening that was the best we'd ever tasted. He grudgingly gave us his recipe with a smile and a challenge to make it taste as good at home :-)
The position of The Anchor is perfect, literally overlooking the spectacular harbourside view that Gulluk visitors know well and love. The height of this bar lifts it literally above the other restaurants as you get to watch people taking their nightly promenade, locals meeting and talking together and the general village life. Finding the Anchor is easy- stand with your back to the harbour and look up and you'll see it. The entrance is through a passageway leading between a small shop and a bar called the Broken Barrel (only go there if you want ex-pats enjoying their drink!!)
The owners of this place are really tuned into people and always make time for a conversation and to check that you have everything you need. You can just have a drink here or a meal, there's no pressure at all. Wifi is available too- an added bonus.
There are plans to hold the popular Turkish Evenings again this year- a wonderful banquet and entertainment, also worth attending for the range of dishes available and their interesting take on entertainment. Go, you will not be disappointed.
