“Beautiful apartment and perfect place to unwind and relax”

The house and gardens are absolutely idyllic and we had a wondeful time there, simply lazing in the garden and then exploring close by and a bit further afield. The village is totally charming, very very quiet and there were lovely marked trails through the surrounding countryside - in fact, there are no restrictions and we could wander off wherever we wanted through the forests or meadows. We had a few evenings at the village pub down the road sampling draught beer and red wine and also visited the bigger village close by that had a few bars and restaurants serving traditional as well as international type food. The English-Czech owners were a great help, providing advice about what to see and do, giving us an interesting insight into Czech life and helping us plan trips - I recommend visiting the beautiful fairy tale Konopiste Castle, which was the home of the Emperor of the Austro-Hungarian Empire [its just 15 mins away], ancient fortified town of Tabor and of course Prague, which was around 60 mins away in our rented car. We also spent a day at Slapy lake, 15 mins away, walking the shores, although most of the watersports, bars and restaurants had closed at the end of August. We were thinking of booking a flat in Prague but were really pleased we decided on this village apartment because we had the best of both world - a day in busy Prague which was enough, peace and tranquility of country life combined with ideally located to visit interesting places.

“Picturesque vacation house surrounded by beautiful scenery - 1 hour from Prague”

We had a great stay in Petra’s Stonehouse in Stranný. The house and the garden are exactly as described and are very charming. The bedrooms are a lot more spacious than the photos may lead you to expect. The kitchen is unusually well equipped. Stranný village is very quiet and really like an oasis of tranquility, where you can spend an excellent holiday and discover everything the Czech Republic has to offer (which is a lot). The text of the “Overview” corresponds to reality and is not exaggerated. Several shops in the village nearby (Neveklov, at about 3 kilometres) offer everything you need for daily shopping and at competitive prices. Gasoline and ATMs are also available in Neveklov. There is no reason to shop farther away in larger supermarkets. From Stranný, it is easy to make trips to various historical towns (Prague, Tabor, Kutna Hora). Petra gave useful advice about the best routes to take. The highways are sometimes (but not always) faster, but not anywhere as scenic as local roads. Right from the front door of the house there are a number of walking trails which are very clearly marked (so that one does not get lost) and the forest and the fields are spectacular. Petra speaks fluently English and was always available for advice, tips and assistance. Highly recommended.
