“Not worthy of a Thomson Platinum hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2012

We have just returned from 11 nights at this hotel and while we had a relaxing holiday we were a bit disappointed with this hotel . As others have mentioned there is usually a bit of a wait at check in and there were only 2 staff members checking people in an extra staff member would have helped to reduce the que a little quicker , however , the member of staff that checked us in was extremely friendly and polite , the restaurant was opened at 10pm for those checking in to get some food and although it was quite a basic spread it was appreciated . The rooms are fine but are in need of updating , we found it to be very clean and it was cleaned to a good standard throughout our stay . We had a small balcony and a lovely view of the pools and a side sea view . There is a TV in the room but there are very few English channels so we didn't watch TV at all while we were here , not really a problem as we don't go on holiday to watch TV but my son does like to watch every now and then , no wifi in the hotel rooms either , again not a problem but again my son would have liked it , instead we purchased Internet access from reception , it was 18 euro for 3 days unlimited usage on 1 device or 9 euro for 1 day you could also purchase for 7 days if required but you have to sit in the reception area to access it . The food again was ok , you are not going to starve here as there is quite a lot if choice and something for everyone , breakfast we found to be good plenty of choice but the food at the evening meal was never hot enough and often not great just ok , deserts were better though , service at meal times was not great there wasn't sufficient staff really and although the staff were friendly enough we often had to wait for quite a while to be given coffee or the table to be set for a 3rd person and plates were sometimes not cleared away between courses so again I would say the service in the dining room was fair generally but again not great .
There were plenty of sun loungers by the pool and although some people put towels down early morning there was really no need as you could generally find somewhere , we went down to the pool at 11-11.30 some days and didn't have any problems at all and we were there over Easter which is probably a busier time , no umberellas by the pool at all though which my husband would have preferred , the pools are cold , so cold that my son spent very little time in them and he is usually never out of the pool on holiday . We went to the beach a few days which is just at the bottom of a slope outside the hotel you do have to pay for the sun loungers and umberellas but at least you can have an umberella and we found the beach much quiter than at the pool , it cost 12 euro for 3 loungers and 1 umberella . There are sailing and wind surfing activities available on the beach also at a cost , there is also a small cafe which is reasonably priced for lunch and drinks .
Inside the hotel there are a few shops and a small supermarket selling drinks , snacks , newspapers , sun cream , toiletries etc etc which was very handy and we used this most days it is probably a little more expensive than the local supermarkets but we didn't find it expensive and was very handy .
Overall we had a relaxing break , the hotel was not bad and don't be put off if you have booked to go here it just isn't great , we were disappointed as it is a Thomson holidays platinum hotel and was given 5T in their brochure and as such we expected more than we got , I would say that it was a 4T hotel and probably a high 3 star hotel , I wouldn't go back though .

Tightwads got £400 off the Thomson brochure price by booking just one week before departure. We wanted something more upmarket than we usually go for and the price was right. The last holiday was full of raucous stag and hen parties but here it was well burnt elderly cocks strutting their stuff along the beach or hiding behind stone windbreaks with their proud to be naturist partners. Not too much for rampant males to look at because the age group was generally 60+ Some of them managed to decorate their stone circles with paper windmills, which gave added interest to our walk along the beach to Jandia.
The dining room seats 1,125 so could be very busy at the height of the popular weeks. The hotel is really part of a complex which is not really suitable for wheelchairs , or people with disability and breathing problems. Rooms are not linked by corridors to the dining room so if raining or windy be prepared to watch your step on the uneven slabs slippy with water. We noticed people struggling to take luggage up and down the stairs, although you can order help at the reception desk. The bathrooms are large enough to have a separate shower and a bath so once again if you have mobility problems be aware that getting in an out of the bath would be easier if there were grip rails. Could be that there are rooms that are wheelchair friendly.
Fine if you are happy to sunbathe all day and read one book after another but if you fancy watching some tele then TV not different from 2 or 3 star hotels. I thought the Platinum rating would have had better viewing. Entertainment was of a high standard most evenings....The Beatles need more enthusiasm and they provided only forty five minutes whereas the other groups gave encores.
Food was plentiful, beautifully presented with variety and the variety of bread wonderful, but by the end of the stay I was looking forward to good home cooking. There are no restaurants around except for the beach bar. Therefore if you are peckish between meals then you only have the complex pizza and hamburger cafe. We like to be able to look at local eateries etc
We did walk along the beach to Jandia and went in the supermarket to buy for a lunchtime snack because the one shop on the complex did not have much stock and was far more expensive than the supermarket. There is a fridge in the room. Bus fare is a standard 1 euro 20.
We booked an island trip for 45 euros each and enjoyed the day. We visited five or six different places, saw goats cheese production, aloe vera production, old churches and of course the volcanic landscape. The guide Ann Marie was entertaining and informative.
If you forget to take your beach towel then you can hire just one towel for a refundable 30 euros.
We enjoyed having a break and husband Tightwad said it was wonderful to be in an upmarket posh Butlins. He loved going to Butlins back in the fifties and eating in the canteen.
So we've been there, seen it, done it, but not got the T shirt. We will not go again because next holiday will be when there is good weather time on the Costas and only just over half the flying time and quicker transfers. Also more opportunities to visit interesting places after a couple of hours sunbathing daily.

Room Tip: If you wish to be near to the hotel then ask for a nearby room. Watch your step if the hose pipe is...

Well this was about our 20th visit to the Canaries and first visit to this hotel and I have to say that we were a bit disappointed. Our first impression was not good as we queued to check in on arrival for 40 mins and check-in took another 10.
We went with out son, daughter-in- law and 2 grandaughters 2 3/4 and 9 months and we booked a twin room and a family room. There are no family rooms at this hotel. If you have a todler and baby the eldest sleeps on the lumpy sofa bed and the baby has a travel cot. This means that the room is full of furniture and there is not enough room to get to the balcony.
When you enter the hotel you are on level 3, reception and bar. You go down to level 2 which in dining room. Down again to level 1 which is the theatre, bars and some shops. My wife said the ladies shop was not expensive.
You go out of the building from there onto a terrace and the rooms are spread out below you on a hill in blocks of about 40 rooms. If you are not good on your feet or are pushing buggies you will hate this. The pool area is at the bottom of the hill and is very nice, but no umbrellas. They only have bamboo covered pagodas, and not always good for shade.
The food was OK but not always hot enough at dinner. They seemed to cater more for the Germans who make up about 80% of the guests.
There is a gate out to the beach, and yes you are at the top of a hill again. You have to go down a big slope again, but the beach is worth it. 2 sun beds and a parasol is 9 euro a day. In front of the hotel is a great bar that serves great food at resonable prices so eat lunch there and on Friday between 1 and 4 in the afternoon they have the two best spanish guitarists you ever saw or heard.

Room Tip: connecting rooms are 85 euros extra per DAY

Recently travelled to FV and stayed here...immaculately clean, staff ridiculously helpful and extremely well spaced out so plenty of privacy. Food was decent, lots available at breakfast and evening meal (we stayed half board), snack bar on site was good, there was one on the beach 100 yards from hotel sun lounging area which was also very good (and reasonably priced too). The hotel was mainly full of German tourists (mainly in the 50's - 60's age catergory) which was perfect for me as it meant none of the usual english idiots there! apparently there were in the hotel next to us! Small gym on site but free most of the time...the local town (10 mins away on a bus that comes bang outside hotel) was a typical spanish town - lots of pubs, chippies so we didnt really stay there long...overall if just wanting a relatively cheap week in the sun without moving much this place was a good one to go to!

Room Tip: ask for a double bed! away from the childrens pool

I booked a week in the hotel last month, and went on my own just to relax and get some sun!
The hotel is lovely. I was in a room surrounded by beautifully kept gardens. I found the staff very helpful, buffet food was great and this resort Jandi is very quiet - not noisy like some of the other Canary island resorts. Went on a side trip to a goat farm and trip round the interior which was great. THere seemed to be a lot of solo women travellers, lots of German tourists, not that many Brits. I would definately recommend this hotel, the spa is excellent. I would definately re-book this hotel.

Room Tip: my room was quite a hike from the reception/dining area - very peaceful! All the walkways are ramped...

The Fuerteventura Princess is a large hotel very close to the extensive beaches of Jandia. It has well laid out gardens and several good size swimming pools. Bedrooms are a good size. The restaurant has a good choice of food of a reasonable quality with show cooking. Staff are friendly and efficient. There is a regular bus service to Morro Jable which gets quite busy. The only downside to my trip was the failure of my coach transport to turn up to take me back to the airport. Fortunately another coach was due 40 minutes later, which did arrive, but I didn't have much time to spare.

Just returned from a few days at the Fuerteventura Princess Hotel with our son . Booked at the last minute hoping to get some sunshine and was really pleased with our choice. There were activities everyday and a good choice of food in the restuarant every night. Breakfast was good too , lots of options from fruit and cereal to eggs bacon pancakes etc. and eat as much as you like !
Our rooms were spotless and in a great location, overlooking the mountain but just a short walk from the pools and the beach was just outside the hotel's back gate.
The staff were all friendly and helpful ( really don't understand some of the negative comments on here about the staff ?? - what do some people expect ? Do they want them to bow and scrape to them while grinning ?)
We booked online through Thomsons and did not appreciate their "one check in queue for ALL flights " policy. Seemed to cause a lot of unnecessary stress for their passengers .
It would be nice if the hotel provided free bottles of drinking water in the room each day , have stayed in other hotels where this was done and its always appreciated. Also feel that perhaps the food in the hotel may become a bit samey if you stayed for a week or more but apart from that i cant really fault the holiday and would recommend the hotel to anyone ( as long as you don't mind a bit of nudity as there is a bit of that going on both on the beach and in a fenced off part of the hotel complex near the spa / gym area)
