We were referred to El Portalet by El Occiitan who were booked out. Fortunately we managed to get a table at El Portalet because it was almost if not completely full as well. Most of the positive comments of the other writers conform with our experience save that we did not find the menu bizarre at all. It was imaginative but not over the top. We received a warm welcome. The decor is simple country style, almost as though grandma's old furniture has been installed. The atmosphere is quiet as appreciative clients enjoy the superb food. There is a more than adequate choice of starters, fish, meat and dessert courses. For example the meat courses included rabbit, beef, chicken, veal, and duck. The servings are small but perfectly conceived and served and we found that three courses were sufficient, with three different and interesting amuse gueule while we looked at the menu. But for a prolonged lunch four courses would not be excessive. Good wine list, an excellent fino, and realistic recommendations from the staff. We were there for a birthday lunch, and all of us left on a hight.
