“Exactly what we were looking for”
Reviewed 5 July 2011

Just 4 hours from Dubai, this was a great destination for our long weekend. We rented one of four lovely villas in Fleur de Sel. The decor is extremely tasetful and everything that we needed was either provided or within easy reach in the village.

We had the beach directly outside until early-afternoon, when the tide came in but there are beautiful beaches in and around Anse Royale. However, we found that the garden was as great a place as any for the lazy afternoons.

I would strongly recommend this for young families or groups of friends wanting to be together whilst keeping their own privacy.

The local restaurants were OK, not great, but we were happy to cook on the provided BBQ and spend the evenings on the veranda listening to the waves.

Furthermore, repairs have been made to the path meaning that the previous photographs are no longer relevant and the garden looks great.

All in all, it was a great place where we felt very welcome.

Thanks!

We stayed here for our honeymoon and don't have a single complaint. The apartment was spacious, nicely decorated and clean. The staff was very friendly. The verandah faces the sea and the view is great. I especially liked the deck chairs, they're perfect for reading in.
A couple of tips for anyone staying here:
There's an excellent restaurant 5 minutes walk to the north on the beach called Kaz Kreol. Try the pumpkin soup and fillet of red snapper.
There's also a shop a couple of minutes away, try sharkey's vanilla ice cream.
When we were there the sea was a bit rough and the wind was blowing. The sea is calmer at the beach opposite the little island to the north and that's also the best beach at Anse Royal. If the waves are still too big go to Anse La Mouche that's just over the hill and where the sea is really shallow or go to Beau Vallon which is the most popular beach on the island. At Beau Vallon don't buy anything from the guys roaming the beach, they'll rip you off.
If you have a delicate stomach, don't take the boat to Praslin.
If you're a smoker bring your own cigarettes, the local brands are expensive and not very good.
If you see a white and tawny cat hanging around, feed her. She'll eat anything, including ice cream.

These are brand new villas. They're roomy, have a lovely big bed, nice deck outside to rest on, and are directly on the beach. They're a short walk into Anse Royale for shops and restaurants, but are set apart from the town and therefore quieter, which we preferred.

Negatives: the owner was away while we were staying due to a family emergency, so we suspect our experience may have been misrepresentative. However - the Wifi didn't work throughout out stay, and despite many complaints from other guests, nothing was done about it. This was a huge problem for us as we had to reconfirm our flight. Our taxi booking back to the airport was also messed up slightly - despite giving 3 days notice we were initially told the driver had other clients before us and might be late. We also had poor drainage in our shower (which caused a flood in the bathroom) but this was fixed. There's a TV provided, but it only has 3 channels on it - a bit pointless, we felt! We also felt there wasn't anyone around most of the time to talk to about issues, or contact if we'd had an emergency, which was slightly unnerving.

The other negative is that the sea literally comes up to the steps from the grounds, so there isn't really a beach. However there's a public one just down the road which is lovely.

However - it's great value and it's lovely accommodation. I'm sure the issues we had are rare.

What a lucky upgrade we got when visiting mahe in november 2010: We booked three nights at the "La Desirade"-Guesthouse (Pointe au Sel) but got three nights in the much more luxurious "Fleur de Sel" (same owner).
"La Desirade" looked nice and cosy but "Fleur de Sel" has more style. Spacious rooms, a fantastic view, elegant furnishing... we loved it.

We just returned from 3 nights here on the island. Our goal was to stay on the beach and snorkel. This easily met our needs, in a brand new, modern and romantic chalet. We had a private terrace with a view of the ocean. The beach was very small, however and none in high tide. So, we asked the owners where to snorkel, as snorkeling right from our place was not possible due to the current. We walked about 10 minutes north for good snorkeling and about 20 minutes more for excellent snorkeling right off the little island off the coast. We didn't have a car, so we had to walk about 20 minutes to the grocery. If you had a car, this place would be perfect. We do highly recommend it for the lovely view and beautiful, new chalet.

This brand new place has everything one needs for a perfect vacation: great location, small beach front during low tide, refreshing breeze, soothing sound of the waves, secured gated ground, immaculate simple modern spacious rooms, large bathroom with rain shower, beautiful lush gardens at the front entrance and the best amenity is the free WiFi. The housekeeper Lina was friendly and kept the place at tip top shape. The proprietors Anne-Laure and Perry were gracious hosts and easy going and they will arrange car rental for you if required. We had a great time and enjoyed our stay there. The only not so positive comment was the adjoining door between the two bungalows which was quite thin thus enabled one to hear even normal conversation from next door. Last but not least, for a fraction of the price (compared to branded hotels on the island), you still get a piece of heaven :-) Two thumbs up!

My family and I along with another family stayed at Fleur de Sel for 2 weeks and it was simply fabulous. Place is definitely much better than the pictures on the website. In addition to great location and excellent facilities one of the best things is the owners. They are such a great couple, we got a very warm welcome - definitely far beyond our expectations. In addition to a hundred other things, we watched the football final together and they helped organized a Catamaran day out, which I would highly recommend to everyone.

Overall, Seychelles now is on top of our vacation destinations and when we go back, we will e staying at Fleur de Sel agin.
