“Great experience”
Reviewed 1 September 2012

We stayed at this venue for 2 nights. Our room, despite having no electricity, had a great view of the Napo river. The beds were comfortable, but the lack of air conditioning led to a difficult night's sleep. As you will imagine in the jungle, there was plenty of noise, but generally this was easily blocked out. The shower rooms were spacious and we had no problems with water. Breakfast was good quality, but the bar was a little on the pricey side.

Room Tip: One with a view of the river.

My grandson and I stayed at the Cotococha Lodge as part of an REI family adventure. We thought it was the perfect place for the jungle part of the trip. The Lodge is eco oriented so there is no electricity in the rooms and the paths are lighted by kerosene lanterns. The main dinning area and bar area do have electricity though and a place to charge the various electronic gadgets that you shouldn't even be thinking about in the jungle.

Rooms were clean, beds comfortable, food great, views of the river great and the staff excellent. There is even a small bar scene which is fun.

You're not in the real deep jungle and certainly not at the Mandarin Oriental but the Lodge works for what it is. We liked it.

Room Tip: Try to get a river view.

Unless you go hang with the tribes in the jungle, you aren't going to get a more "authentic" experience! Very cool that there is no electricity in the hooches, just gas lamps. The staff is very friendly and happy to answer questions and discuss life in the Amazon. Food is amazing and so is the location. Had a wonderful time!!

We have lived and travelled extensively around Ecuador for the past 3 years and have stayed in a few places in the Amazon including three stays at the Cotocoha Amazon Lodge. This is by far the best value and best experience you can have in the Amazon basin for this price. Their pricing includes lodging and meals plus amazing excursions with experienced, local guides up the river in motorized canoes. We love that there is no electricity in the cabins which remain exceptionally clean, quiet and comfortable. We had someone upstairs from us in a separate cabin but never heard them at all. Unlike a lot of places in Eastern Ecuador, the cabins offer hot water, which are heated by on-demand gas water heaters. This is the most efficient and ecological way to heat water and we appreciate this plus the use of traditional sustainable building techniques they use to construct the cabins. The staff is extremely helpful - helping us carry our motorcycle saddlebags to our cabin after a long day's ride - and understood that we needed to "decompress" and have a beer on our arrival - instead of pushing us onto their schedule right away we were encouraged to take our time and get settled in. The excursions were absolutely amazing and they provide incredible knowledgeable guides to really help you learn about the jungle and to get the most from your experience. I have not found another place that gives you all of this at such a great price. I recommend this place to anyone wishing to have a great Amazon experience.

Zenith Travel Did A Great JOB! Marcos Endara of Zenith Travel in Quito asked that I write a letter of recommendation to you. It is my pleasure to do so. I am the co-director of the Ludlowe Corps, a student/parent/teacher group from Roger Ludlowe Middle School in Fairfield CT that organizes service learning opportunities. I am also the co-executive director of Humanity Now, a 501C3 whose mission it is to help schools in the states make connections to community projects in the developing world.

We have traveled to Ecuador 4 times in the last three years. On each occasion, we used the services of Zenith Travel to make all travel arrangements. Marcos Endara served as the contact person for all our efforts which included bringing groups of 36 or 37 middle school children and parents to Ecuador. The experiences were very favorable and each year the trip got better and better. Marcos is extremely available and manages his staff to ensure that his clients get the best possible experience. Each trip, we were met at the airport at the scheduled time with transportation readily available, never any waiting! It has gotten to the point that I would now say that I have a personal relationship with Marcos that goes beyond what one would expect from a travel experience.

During our trips, we travelled to the Ecuadorian Amazon, throughout the Andes, and to the Galapagos Islands. Zenith Travel made sure all details were looked at and that travel is as smooth as possible. All requests made by our participants were thoughtfully considered by the Zenith guides. Zenith is a professional travel group that knows how to pay attention to small details. They are friendly and courteous. They are responsive and flexible. It has been a pleasure to work with Marcos of Zenith travel for the past 3 years, and I look forward to working with him again in the future.

One area that Zenith could improve is with travel to Galapagos. Zenith’s strength is definitely on the main land. During our first couple of trips, travel got disconnected upon our arrival in Galapagos, but they addressed those concerns during later trips to the point that we were satisfied with what Marcos put in place.

We travelled to Cotococha with a travel group on the 6th of February, staying for two nights. We would have loved to have been able to extend our stay as we weren't able to do all the excursions this lodge has to offer.

The location of this lodge (about half an hour from the city of Tena) is somewhat on the edge of the Amazon Rainforest, but you do not really notice once you enter the grounds and walk through the lush natural gardens. The cabins are just fine with comfortable bedding and they are bug free.

But the best thing about this lodge are the nights. There is no electricity so the staff leave oil lamps by the cabins and along the pathways. There is also no television or internet so you are forced to disconnect and fall asleep to the sounds of the jungle orchestra.

We had an excellent experience here and loved exploring the Amazon. We will surely be back for more!

Room Tip: The rooms along the river are amazing. From our veranda we saw several monkeys swinging through the...
