“Peaceful stopover”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2014

Coffee plantation with beautiful views and very comfortable accommodation. Made a great place to stay on our way to Ngorongoro Crater, which is only approximately 1 hour's drive away. Excellent packed food for our safari, although the evening meal at the hotel was not as good, and, surprisingly, the restaurant had piped music playing whilst we ate. As you would expect, the coffee was excellent, having been grown on the farm.

Dear Tanzanian Enthusiast,

Greetings from Gibb's Farm and thank you for taking the time to leave your comments and feedback, it is much appreciated.

Great to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and I will make sure to pass your comments on to our team members.

The music in the restaurant is played via a small sound system with the aim of providing some low key background music featuring both national and international african artists.

Thank you again for staying with us and we look forward to being able to welcome you back to Gibb's Farm some day in the not too distant future.

Kind Regards and best wishes.

Luxury by Ngorongoro Crater can be found at Gibbs farm a coffee plantation and delightful oasis for travelers. The grounds are spectacular as are the birds found here.
The staff is outstanding. The welcoming drink was avocado--delicious , different and refreshing along with welcome wash cloth to remove some of road dirt.
The individual cottages dating to the mid-2000's are spacious with a sitting room, huge bedroom with fire place and a huge bathroom with two sinks, tub, shower and separate toilet area. Also each one features outside shower but it was too cold to use. The fire place located between bedroom and bathroom kept the room warm. Morning tea, ordered night before at dinner, was very welcome. Food was outstanding. Fresh homemade cookies and tea/coffee available by dining room nice. Bush baby feeding nightly, bread making in morning, cow milking next provided excitement and education for the young and old. The done bread was delivered to the makers and happily eaten. Grounds tours were offered along with explanation about keeping elephants from destroying property. Have a water tank just for elephants. Also must light nightly fire to keep elephants out of vegetable garden. Fire is only thing elephants are afraid of.
Ideally one should arrive early afternoon to enjoy the property. Tours of coffee plantation were also available. Fresh coffee available. One could watch coffee beans being roasted
This was first time stayed here but visited in 1970 and again in 1982. Always an outstanding visit which I eagerly looked forward to.

Room Tip: Each cottage was surrounded by greenery offering maximum privacy and seclusion with view towards sl...

The rooms consist of separate, very private bedroom/lounge cottages - very comfortable with a great fireplace and an imaginatively positioned shower; there is a massive bath, but the hot water system was barely able to handle a warm shower, so filling a big bath would have been out of the question. The food was excellent and imaginative. The initial introduction seemed aimed not at telling us about the hotel, but at getting us to buy overpriced artworks; as this persisted when we tried to order a drink, I can only assume that the staff are on a big sales commission. We felt there was a deficit of management at the time we were there, and the staff attitude was questionable - this is so out of line with the experience of our friends that we suspect there must have been some sort of industrial dispute underway, and assume that this is sorted out and all is now well. But is spoilt our experience.

Dear Robert,

Greetings from Gibb's Farm and thank you for your feedback which is much appreciated. I am most concerned about your comments regarding your introduction to the property and the attitude of some of he team members.

I can assure you that there was no industrial dispute and really no excuse for this sort of behavior. Rest assured that I will fully investigate what happened and why it happened to ensure your experience was an isolated and one-off shortfall in our services.

Please accept my sincere apologies and I very much regret that this has spoiled your experience at Gibb's Farm.

Thank you again for your feedback and we do hope to be able to welcome you back one day in the future to provide you with a better experience.

Although we really loved our bush accommodations through our 10 day safari, my family was overjoyed with the two days we spent at Gibbs Farm in the middle of the trip. The rooms were classic cottages that harkened back to colonial times but with all the modern amenities (including fireplaces that were lit for us at night) you could want. All of our meals were beautifully cooked and presented. We only availed ourselves of a few of the many activities and events offered but they were all fun, tasteful, and informative in some way. The manager is delightful and the staff is superb.

Although I have heard that the rooms are booked two years in advance (as it is a small place), it would be well worth a return visit for us. Relaxing and invigorating at the same time and an easy day trip to Ngoronogoro Crater and Oldupai Gorge.

Room Tip: My sons had a cottage a few minutes away from ours. Their room (The Writers' Cottage) with two t...

Each guest room is a self-contained cottage with its own outdoor space, surrounded by beautiful gardens and flowers. We had more space than we do in our London flat. The cottages all have names and I presume they may be themed- for example, ours was called "writers" and had a writing desk and bookcases.

There are lots of activities, we fed bushbabies and milked a cow. There were also opportunities to roast coffee, listen to stories, and do some walks. We stayed there as a base for visiting Ngorogoro crater so didn't budget time to just relax at the farm and I would recommend that, if you have time in your schedule.

Room Tip: We liked "writers" it has an outdoor shower, indoor shower and bath (all of which we manag...

From the moment you enter the grounds of this small hotel and coffee plantation, you feel relaxed. From the flower gardens all over the property to the coffee farm to the vegetable and herb gardens to the quaint cottages, everything is very well done! The individual cottages are well appointed and the fireplace is such a nice touch. Make sure to try the wonderful outdoor shower! Service is outstanding as well! The massages we enjoyed in our cottages were wonderful. The food is very fresh and innovative. The only downside to the food is that only a few choices are given for dinner and sometimes the menus are better than others. Breakfast and lunch offer fresh buffet choices with made to order eggs available for breakfast. Fresh soups, salads, quiche, breads and hot entrees are offered at lunch and were very good. Take time to relax and enjoy this place. The setting is truly amazingly beautiful! The gift shop here offers nice things at reasonable prices. We also enjoyed the local artists who were painting and carving while we were there. We highly recommend Gibb's Farm and hope to return on another trip to Tanzania!
