Description: Himalayan Coffee is a Western-run cafe specializing in Italian-based espresso coffees and fine desserts, including cheesecake and tiramisu. We also offer full Western breakfasts, featuring omelettes, Belgian waffles, and homemade granola. Lunch & dinner options include sandwiches, wraps, quesadillas and thin-crust, stone-baked pizza. As a social enterprise, we also partner with many local communities in offering fair-trade, high quality Tibetan products to our customers. These items include 100% yak-wool garments, unique Tibetan handicrafts & jewelry, and yak milk soap. Location: Look for General's Bridge (JiangJunQiao) in downtown Kangding with statutes of Tibetans. Our signage is visable on the south side of the river. Enter into tourist shopping district called "Liu Liu Chen" behind the large yak statute. Turn left on walking street at large prayer wheels. Cafe is located up a small staircase immediately on the left. Bringing coffee to the Himalayas and the Himalayas to the world. Come alive!

We enjoyed several mugs of tea here. Be careful with the lids on the "to-go" cups, they don't work very well...

After an 8 hour bus ride from Chengdu, this was the perfect spot to stop and get a coffee. While Kangding is becoming more modern as a town, it is in a somewhat remote area. To find the Himalayan Cafe was like finding an oasis in the desert. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the coffee and cakes are delicious.

This place is super fun! From the gorgeous Tibetan made handcrafts they sell, to their tasty range of beverages, we found this place to be a restful treat -- great for spending time with friends after a long day.

The coffee shop is very clean (with a clean bathroom as well!), and all the beverages well made. The atmosphere is very pleasant.

I was excited to try this place after seeing after seeing reviews and hearing good things, but unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. Anyone who has ever worked in a cafe before knows how difficult it can be to dial in a good espresso, so I had high hopes when I heard the place was run by a coffee loving American. Well that guy must not have been there that day, because I found the coffee to be extremely weak and disappointing. Perhaps the owner should consider giving the people working there more lessons so that results are more consistent.

Thanks for your feedback. I am the "coffee loving American" you spoke of! It is my desire to introduce the best espresso-based coffee to Tibet ... and each customer that comes our way. I'm sorry that we didn't live up to your expectations. While we do have systems in place for our staff to "dial in" the espresso daily, I was away for almost 4 months and it is obvious that they didn't perfect the espresso the day you visited us. If you ever come back through Kangding, please come in for a complimentary coffee and pizza... we'd love to make it up to you! For you next visit, know that we guarantee satisfaction and will remake any drink until you are satisfied. Again, thanks for your constructive criticism! It will make us better!
