Wonderful property, really great staff and superb location make this a truly unique place. The Diponegoro room has an unbeatable view of the valley, including the Borobudur temple and Merapi volcano. The staff is very courteous and attentive and did a great job planning all of our local excursions. They were particularly helpful with our shopping requests which included a trip to the local market to buy spices - helping to translate and negotiate. The villa is an ideal distance from the temple if you want to get there early for the sunrise. All of our meals were carefully prepared with really fresh ingredients. The stay felt too short and I certainly hope we can go back there someday!

We stayed in Villa Borobudur last year 13-16.02.2013. We had very special and unforgettable stay. View is stunning. Rooms are absolutely beautiful with all the wood carving. The open concept of bathroom and the abscence of glass in the windows giving you exciting experience. The service is excellent. We had Happy Valentine signs from the petals in the room and even at the enterance to the restaurant:))) The food is delicious and the local cousine is nicely presented. The selection of wine was very poor, hope Noel have improved it now even it is not very easy on Java:))) Morning prayer is horribly loud, it seems that the speaker is directed right on you. And it is very early, at about 4.30 that is also strange 'cause usually it is at the sunrise. But the good news - you will have your earplugs in the room:)))
Thank you Noel for building such an exceptional hotel! And thank you for the great team working there! You are doing great job!!!

Dear Natalia,
Thank you for review and great to hear from you even after over a year after your stay, indeed unforgettable then!
We did indeed extend our wine and cocktail list, but on Java it will never be an amazing wide choice. And regarding the call of prayer it is indeed before sunrise, as the first prayer is at that time. Hopefully you can visit us again some time as so much has been developed since your visit here. Not just new villas but also an extension of the activities offered, new menus with delicious Indonesian cuisine, with lots of options for vegetarians as well. Many new paintings from local artists and so on. And last but not least, through the extensions to the new villas we are able to offer even more local people jobs and economic opportunities.
Best regards,

Noëlle and all Villa Borobudur staff

My family stayed in the Menoreh Villa for 5 nights and had one of our best holiday experiences. The villa comes with 2 separate bedrooms, tv room, a private pool & staff to attend to our needs. As it is built on the side of a hill, on a clear day you can see Mount Sumbing, Borobudur Temple & Mount Merapi while having meals served in the villa. Breakfast, lunch, tea breaks & dinner were different everyday & delicious. All of us did put on extra kilos by the end of the week! Equally impressive was the amazing staff who were so warm & hospitable. Even the drivers who took us to several place of interest made efforts to explain the history & culture.

If you are looking for peace & quiet to enjoy nature, to shoot macro photography, to catch up on your reading or bonding with your family, this is the place ot be.

What a place! The accommodations are absolutely beautiful, the food is excellent, and the staff is amazing. It's a bit off the beaten path and you need to use the hotel-supplied transportation to get to area tourist spots, but they have many suggestions for half-day tours and all were good. The hotel's very pleasant and attentive staff accompany you on the tours. The rooms are in the style of a traditional Javanese home: a very large, open-walled living and dining room at one level with sleeping and bathing accommodations in a separate structure up the hill on which the Villa is located. The rooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable with the exception of temperature: there's no air conditioning and the afternoons particularly got rather warm. The rooms were also a bit noisy: small lizards make surprisingly large noises through the night and the well-amplified calls to prayer from the local mosque start at 4:45 am. The Villa supplies a high-power electric fan, which we ran through the night to keep the temperature comfortable and as white noise to mask the other sounds. Despite these minor inconveniences, we had a relaxing and very, very pleasant stay.

Dear Peter,

Thank you for your review, and wonderful to read you had a very very pleasant stay with us. Indeed it can sometimes be a little warm during the day, hopefully you found the pool also relaxing and cooling. We are always happy the breeze and being on the slopes of the mountains makes it cool of at night to nice and comfortable temperatures. We are glad to read you liked the excursions and tours and we have passed on the compliments to our staff.
We hope we may welcome you again some day soon,

A lovely facility with excellent staff. We just stayed 3 nights in Villa Merapi. The descriptions are correct, not for persons with mobility issues or small children. The facility is great and the staff are attentive to your every need, Our only complaint was that the food portions were far too large and we ended up skipping two lunches because we could not find the space to eat. The villa staff picked us up and delivered us to the airport as well as arranging visits to the local sights. There was even a local Javanese dance recital at the villa itself one night. The trip to Pramabanan Temple takes a couple of hours (each way), but is well worth the visit. They don;t have a spa, but the masseuse comes to the villa should you wish for a traditional Javenese massage, which came highly recommended by the two in our party who experienced one. The trip to the airport in Yogy is about 1.5 hours depending on traffic.

Room Tip: We never checked out fitness facilities, but if you want a workout, just run up the hill.

Dear Foodie-diver,

Thank you for your Fantastic review! It was a pleasure having you as our guests, it is always great to see our guests really enjoying the Authentic Java experience we offer. It is always a bit difficult to get to the right portion size as sometimes it also differs per day per guest how much they like something and than the amount eaten is bigger. As a hotel we make a serious effort in managing focused on sustainability and therefor we try to create as little waste as possible.
We will also pass on the compliments to the masseuses and the rest of the staff.
Hopefully we may welcome you again some day.

Bets regards,

I've stayed at many hotels in Java and other locations in Indonesia and this was absolutely the best. I was fortunate enough to be upgraded to a pool villa and did not want to leave. Beautifully decorated, wonderful views, very private, and the friendliest most attentive staff. Food/drinks were inclusive and it was more than enough for a big eater like me. Most of the food offered is made from local (Java) recipes and is extremely flavorful and delicious. The only minor complaints I have is that I gained two kilos eating too much food and wish I had taken my headphones because the local mosques have loud speakers that start at 0500 in the morning and ends around dinner time. This place is well worth the price and I will be back for another stay very soon.

Room Tip: Pay the additional cost and get yourself a pool villa which comes with a 24 hour butler team.

Dear BangkokRon,

Thank you for your wonderful review and your stay with us, it was a pleasure having you as our guests and we would love for you to come back again. There is still plenty to discover and to taste and with some hiking, swimming and or cycling in the area you then will maybe not gain more kilos.
