We spent a night at Manohara Hote as we are taking the sunrise tour at 4.30am with additional of 230000 rp, Room is small and old. There are some bugs and insects in the room. Towel are dirty. Toilet is smelly, waterflow from tap and shower head is like a trickle, had a frustrating time showering. Limited choices for breakfast buffet. Gardens around the hotel room is nice.

The setting and location of this hotel cannot be beaten, the rooms are basic but clean and comfortable - ask for a room overlooking the paddy fields/Hindu temple and not overlooking the coffee shop (like ours was). The restaurant was a bit disappointing, the food is boring, they remove all spice from the Indonesian dishes to 'suit' the European palate, and the selection is limited. The service was indifferent; I had to go looking for a waiter several times to order food/drinks etc. having said that the staff are polite and friendly. Make sure you walk around the grounds of the Borobudur complex and check out the views of Borobudur from 'Dagi Hill', we never saw another person up there and the views are fabulous. Also go see the elephant house. Don't buy anything from the shop - you can get everything for a fraction of the price elsewhere! Otherwise the hotel is extremely reasonable.

Room Tip: If you want privacy ask for a room overlooking the paddy fields and not the row facing the coffee shop/restaurant.

We stayed here for one night in order to visit Borobudur. It's not the cheapest hotel, but we found it worth the cost. Its location is literally on site, and a mere five minute walk to Borobudur.
The hotel staff was wonderful, and very nice and attentive. We found our room excellent and large, with a great big bathroom and huge bed. There was also a TV with a nice little sitting area, as well as outdoor seating with a great view of the grounds.
The wi-fi was not good, however, and did not reach our room. We had to use the restaurant to find a seating area where we could use the internet. This could be simply because our room was at the far end of the complex, but nonetheless.

It was a real treat to go out to the temple complex before sunrise in order to see the sun rise over the temple.

We felt that a day trip to Borobudur from Jogja was enough, and you should stay at the Manohara if you can!

The hotel is just ok but the location is absolutely worthwhile. Rooms and meals are very basic, and though the hotel staff was incredibly friendly, they didn't have a ton of useful information. However, you're right at the base of the temple, and it's the best place to be to walk the grounds and for early access to the sunrise tour. I'd definitely stay here again though one night is probably sufficient before moving into town for a bitmore to do.

The hotel itself is fine (the food sort of sucks though), but the best part about this is the proximity to Borobodur. It is actually on the property, so you are as close as you can be. (And can sleep in a bit later than everyone else!) If you are flying into Jogja, have the hotel pick you up straight from the airport and just eat and then go to bed. Get up for sunrise and explore the temple, then head back into the city and stay at another hotel.
