“Nice Place”
Reviewed 21 December 2012

Very nice hotel. The standard of the rooms is very good, and the heating controls are great (heating and cooling). Reception staff are friendly, and the pool / gym areas are also nice. It looks like they once had a Jacuzzi however this is no longer in situ.
The bed and furniture are of a very nigh standard.
I stayed here for two nights, and on the second night woken up at 1:30am by the fire alarm going off. I was eventually let back into the room around 2:30am, but couldn’t sleep from that point on. The hotel still charged me the full rate.
Room service was great, and very quick. The standard of the food is good, and the wine selection admirable. I will be staying here again.

We stayed here recently when visiting friends and family in the area. We have stayed here once before when my Husband arranged to play golf with friends and I used the swimming facilities, but this time it was booked as our usual "visiting" hotel couldn't accommodate us.

It is expensive, I agree, but it is a golf and country club after all, and you have to expect that. Our room was extremely comfortable with everything in it that we needed, even if we were to stay for a week!

All in all, it's a nice treat to yourself now and again.

First a visit to the bar...£23 for two shorts and two pints.... Bit over priced
The function room was nicely laid out, until you notice the mismatched cutlery and crockery.... After clearing, the spoons were washed and reappeared for desert
Grumpy staff and not a personality between them, head waitress is over used... Anyone can work out if a place setting is empty.. Put a filled plate there.
The terrin was grey... God knows why
The main meal of turkey and veg was under cooked and very poor quality... Don't please say al dente this was raw
The Xmas pudding was nice but how can u mess up a micro wave pudding
The DJ had a most pathetic lighting rig of 5 lights... And a clear dance floor for most the evening...
Cheapest house wine £21 a bottle.... Laughable

For a alleged higher end hotel I was very disappointed and please don't use the excuse of Xmas being a busy time.... It happens at the same time every year so pre plan better

Our stay was fine and nothing to note, but wasnt special enough. The gym was very nice but sterile and we had a good evening. The bed was too small and was only a double size, room service was sent back twice as the "chips " were microwaved - yuk! They did take it off the bill. Rooms were adequate but would not return as we have stayed in far better places for the money. A bit middle of the road at these prices.

Visited his hotel a few months ago for a spa break with my mum to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Quite close to home but too close, had a back and shoulder massage which was very nice had a lovely steak for dinner and enjoyed a relaxing breakfast and lunch the next day it was a very enjoyable experience and a great place to get some space to clear your head... nice views great people good atmosphere the perfect getaway.. :)

Room and communal areas are bog standard. We booked a one night spa break through super break which included two treatments each and was excellent value. The staff throughout the hotel are all brilliant and my massage was one of the best I've ever had. The pool area is a little depressing and the "chill out room" doubles as a meeting room, so not fab but there is nothing wrong with the treatment rooms.
Our dinner was amazing. The chef used to be at the Chesil Rectory and certainly knows his stuff. Lots of game on the menu and everything was perfect, and more. Excellent waiting staff and some delicious wines to choose from. Prices seemed reasonable to me, both in the bar and on the wine list.
We enjoyed it so much, we are taking some people there for Sunday lunch and would definitely stay again.

This was my 3rd stay at the Botley Park and on 2 out the 3 occasions I've had a less than restful night's sleep and woke up feeling jaded the following morning.

The rooms all have individually controlled air-con/heating, but the old radiators, which clearly aren't used to heat the rooms any more, must still be connected to some water or heating system or other, as they rattle away incessantly all night long. Surely it must be an easy enough job to just disconnect them and fit blank ends?

The staff are great and the food very nice, but when I travel on business, a non-negotiable requirement is a clean, comfortable, well maintained (but not neccesarily modern) and QUIET!! bedroom.
