Took my elderly father for a steak meal for his 94th birthday. Our 2 'medium rare' steaks came 'well done'! & the chips that came with two of the meals were totally inedible, cold & obviously 'stale'. A real disappointment !

I understand that this pub is one of a chain of pubs that operate in this area. We had a meal in this pub on 1 Aug 2014. It is difficult to understand that this pub is surviving in these difficult times when it does not seem to understand the following basic concepts:

1. The pub is scruffy and struggling, obviously understaffed and not the sort of place where you would want to spend any time.

2. They cannot cook a steak to order, "Well Done" they can do if you like well seasoned leather.
They do not seem to have any understanding of what "Medium" or "Medium Rare" means. If you order one of these options you get well seasoned leather. How can they be in the food business and not understand what these options mean.

3. They cannot make edible chips. Again it is difficult to understand how they can
survive in the business of providing food when they have not mastered the simple art of making decent chips. Wetherstones can do it so it cannot be such a big secret, but they churn out platefuls of dry stodgy cheap inedible cheap frozen rubbish chips. All three of us were unable to
eat their chips. Surely constant returns of platefuls of uneaten chips should have given them a clue by now.

4. I cannot understand how this pub stays in business.

It's been a few months since we have been here as it can be a bit hit and miss. The staff are friendly and the service good. It was a fairly quiet Thursday evening.

One of us had the mini-grill. The meat tasted off and was not eaten. When asked if the meals were alright, and we said no, they thought we were joking. We were told that the rest of the food served on the plate had been eaten, so it must have been OK! Some serious lack of staff training here. We were offered complimentary desserts or coffee, but declined.
