“Last year I got a pair of socks!”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

This Christmas I was given a gift voucher for a blue Box sailing experience. The simple to navigate web site directed me via the voucher code to the experience with a huge choice of dates for my match racing trip on a pair of identical Clipper yachts. The staff were great and a good mix of humour and re assuring safety guidance. These yachts are huge and heavy so they are very safe and easy going on the Solent. Despite a crew of 12 on each boat many with no previous sailing experience no one was even remotely queasy! Everyone had their 15 mins or so of fame on the wheel and the rest of te you are raising the sails, trimming then or generally being active. This is a hands on experience and you'll not be bored.
The yacht I was on was skippered by the owner of the company and you could feel his passion for his job and sport, it's not everyday you get to sail with someone of his experience.
Definitely recommend buying a gift with Blue Box if you are looking to buy something better than socks this year!

“Excellent guidance and pleasurable experience”
Reviewed 31 July 2014 via mobile

We did the half day sailing experience from Hamble out into the Solent with the Isle of Wight to the south. Clear instructions were provided prior to the trip on what to wear and take with you.

The whole experience was very professionally handled. We are provided with a life jacket and waterproof trousers and coat, which fortunately none of which we needed.

Explanation of the yacht, it's operation and safety aspects were done thoroughly with the staff of two, Matt and Jono. There were two yachts and each took 2 staff and 10 crew (us). Tuition of manning the ropes and sails was done with clear explanation and slow for everyone to understand. Many thanks to Jono for this along with his dry sense of humour during his instruction.

We raised the sails, lowered sails, set the spinnaker, took the helm, packed the sails away, levelled the yacht by sitting on one side if the boat with legs dangling over the water. We also learned what the conditions under which a race crew would sail -very amazing and quite harsh!

Lunch of a baguette, crisps and a drink was provided, which we ate whilst navigating away from Hamble under engine.

Car park in the boat yard was £6. A limited amount of goods were on sale in the office, e.g. Peak cap, gloves etc., or there was a chandlers where boat equipment and clothing could be purchased.

Non-sailors waiting for others to complete their experience can walk up to the small village of Hamble where there are a few shops and pubs etc.

Lovely views of the south coast of England and a fantastic experience. Next time, we hope there is more wind.

What a fabulous day we had, sailing a 60ft clipper on the Solent. We were a little apprehensive beforehand as we have no sailing experience, but neither had the majority of the participants, and the crew were fantastic, so calm and patient, and everything was explained so well. For each task the crew asked for volunteers, so there was no pressure to do anything that you didn't want to. I would recommend anyone to give it a try.

“A Wonderful Experience”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

A day's sailing on an impeccably presented racing yacht in the Solent on a beautifully sunny, breezy day was a super experience for sailors and us non sailors alike. Very professionally conducted both ashore on line booking, confirmation, check in, issued with good quality wet gear and life jackets, and aboard where two very experienced instructors kept all of us interestingly busy throughout the day. Good choice of baguettes and biscuits and drinks for lunch. Tiring but thoroughly worth the effort. A nice birthday present.

“Edrych am ddiwrnod allan i’w gofio? Darllenwch ymlaen …”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

Cefais docynnau Blue Box yn anrheg “pen-blwydd mawr” yn ddiweddar a rhaid i mi gyfaddef bod mwy nag elfen o bryder wrth i mi fyrddio’r cwch yn fy siaced achub, hefo 11 morwr arall oedd yn rhoi cynnig arni am y tro cyntaf. Pum munud ar ôl derbyn briff yn egluro beth oedd beth a thipyn am hanes y cwch gan ein capten Jono ac ail aelod y criw Sam, roedd y pryderon wedi diflannu’n llwyr a dyma bawb yn torchi llewys wrth y ‘grinders a’r winches’ ac yn cael hwyl fawr wrth godi’r hwyl fawr ac wrth y llyw. Cafwyd ddiwrnod bendigedig yn hwylio’r Solent hefo digon o amser i ymlacio a chymdeithasu. Does dim angen mynd i’r gost o brynu dillad ar gyfer tywydd garw - fe gewch bopeth sydd angen ar y dydd a digon i fwyta ac yfed hefyd.

Gwnaeth proffesiynoldeb y cwmni yma ynghyd a natur gyfeillgar (ac amyneddgar) y criw yn siŵr bod pawb wedi cael diwrnod bendigedig a ni allaf ei gymeradwyo ddigon. Os ydych am anrheg arbennig neu ddiwrnod i’w gofio, edrychwch ddim pellach …

Looking for a memorable day out? You’ve just found it …

I was given Blue Box vouchers as a ‘significant birthday’ gift and joined 11 other first-time sailors for a day out on the amazing Blueprint. After being kitted out we boarded the yacht and our skipper for the day, Jono, gave us a talk and tour which was perfectly-pitched to put us at ease. Our first task which involved tying an (apparently) simple knot, turned out to be a great ice-breaker and we were soon all responding to orders and pitching in on the grinders and winches, hoisting sails and being let loose at the helm when we weren’t sat on the edge – legs dangling in that iconic sailing style. It was the perfect mix of relaxation and hands-on, with the individual being able to choose their own level of involvement throughout the day.

The professionalism of this outfit was outstanding from start to finish and together with the friendly (and patient) nature of all the staff, made for a truly memorable day.
