We enjoyed a wonderful valentine's evening meal at the Brasserie, the food was outstanding, a pleasure in every respect. Beautifully prepared and presented courses, friendly, efficient service, and great wine recommendations to suit the meal. We will definitely go back - and would recommend the hotel as a venue to others !.

We stayed for one night in February. When we arrived to book in we were upgraded to an executive room with a terrace overlooking the park. It had a huge super king bed, fantastic bathroom with walk in shower and deep free standing Victorian style bath. The room has all the usual, coffee machine (I couldn't work out how to use it but I am sure had I bothered to ask one of the lovely staff members would have told me), a kettle, biscuits, milk, a safe, everything you need for a comfortable stay. There is not only free wi fi but every room is equipped with a Mac computer. The breakfast was waitress served and cooked to order and the menu varied from full English to smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, kippers, eggs benedict, and much more. There was also a buffet with real juices (large glasses which is unusual, you normally get wine size glasses for juice), fresh fruit, meats, cereals, yoghourt, etc., The coffee was fine too. I am a coffee drinker and can rarely drink the hotel breakfast offering, so this was a pleasant surprise too. When we asked for late check out they said yes with a smile. This was a business trip and we paid a little more for this hotel than we usually do however it was well worth the extra and we shall definitely stay here again next time we are in Colchester.

Room Tip: We had an executive room overlooking the park in the new part of the building. It was quiet and we h...

Used here for a conference plus eating plus staying over and I have to say I was impressed. The bedrooms are lovely; an iMac in every one, nice bed, clean, well-appointed. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food (both dinner and breakfast) was of a high standard. The location (sharing the same park as the university) is unusual. Not so good to stroll into town, but otherwise accessible and nicely open. All in all a very good venue that did everything we needed and did it with style.

I thought this hotel was absolutely lovely and the staff excellent. The location is central to main links to London and ideal if you are exploring Essex. My visit was purely for a 'getaway' night and it was absolutely perfect and I will definitely stay there again. The rooms are lovely, we stayed in the modern garden wing - the room and furnishings were of a very high standard as was the cleanliness. The complimentary slippers, bathrobes and Molten Brown accessories were a lovely touch. We had dinner in the Brasserie as this is considerably cheaper than the Signatures Fine Dining of £45 a head. However I did find the Menu a little small in terms of choice and it was hard to choose something I liked as each dish was 'a bit too fancy' in terms of description. Whilst the staff were as accommodating as possible there were not really enough 'normal' choices and the vegetarian choices were not good. Breakfast on the other than was excellent, cooked to order, served hot to your table, with a great range of juices, cold meats, cheeses and cereals etc.

Room Tip: The Garden Wing is very modern whilst the main part of the hotel is more traditional.

Went for meal with friends and hubbie and I stayed over as a extra treat. Excellent meal in lovely surroundings and the room was superb. This hotel and restaurant deserve and need to be busy to give the students the full working experience in a high class establishment. Give them a look if you want to eat or stay in Colchester - you won't be sorry.

Room Tip: All rooms excellent, don't think you can go wrong in any price category.

We ate in the brasserie Christmas Eve as the Signature Restaurant was closed and we had read all the glowing reports on Tripadvisor. The menu was very limited, had we been informed of this at the time of booking we would not have eaten there. I am a vegetarian so my only choice was risotto which had fried cauliflour on the top and was cold, my husband had the turkey, which consisted only of dark meat and my son had the beef cheek which was excellent. There were no vegetables available and the wine was extremely expensive. Very nouveau cuisine. Would not recommend if you are hungry. There are several much better restaurants in the village of Wivenhoe
