“Good food”
Reviewed 24 May 2014

I often visit The Plough for lunch. The food is consistently good and the portions are very generous. The bannoffee pie I had on my last visit was amazing.
We stayed over night in the accommodation. The room was very comfortable and attractively furnished. I have always found the staff welcoming and the service good. Some of the waitresses are young and inexperienced but that seems to be the norm these days.

We had been walking in the area again and knowing that the food is of good quality, albeit a little too expensive for what you get we visited again.

It was a Bank Holiday so we expected it to be busy but actually whilst it was busy it wasn't as packed as I remember it to have been a few years back. Perhaps the Landlord needs to consider if his surly attitude and that of his staff is starting to have an affect on their takings.

The bar staff remain inexperienced and need to take some lessons from some regular pubs where the bar staff actually know who is next rather than making the customers have to do it for them and in some cases queue jump

We waited an hour for some sandwiches and the waitress never bothered to return with our condiments. No big deal but disappointing service.

As expected there was no 'thank you' when I settled the bill.

I have been to the plough several times now and have never been disappointed , the food has always been excellent, and lots of fresh vegetables! One of our party had home made lemon meringue pie , she said it was the best she'd had! A couple had the banana fritters which were also fantastic , the only little niggle we had was our young waitress was not very friendly and didn't seem to want to serve us , but the rest of the staff were as always brilliant !

They seem to have furnished the restaurant by harvesting the kitchens of mid 90s suburban kitchens, be prepared for a sea of varnished pine adorned with plastic carnations.
We went for a roast after a great walk, the meat was very nice but the Yorkshire puddings were shop bought and the potatoes deep fat fried, for £15 I expect a lot more.
Added to the the staff were rude, for example after ordering a coffee I asked for milk, to which the waiter replied 'why would you want milk?'
In all, over priced, mediocre food and rude staff, I will return but only for a pint and a sandwich after a long walk nothing more

Five of us came to The Plough for Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago, I did book about a week in advance and chose the earlier sitting at 12 o'clock.
Well what can I say...
Fantastic quality meat, between us we had roast beef, roast chicken and lamb, wonderful fresh piping hot veggies, great roast potatoes and very tasty gravy that was all served very promptly.
The boys managed a dessert each and were equally pleased.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch in a lovely, cosy pub and although some reviews on here have claimed that it is expensive, I think that £15.95 for the quality that we received was worth every penny.

We met family here for Sunday night dinner on a trip up-country. The Landlady couldn't have been more welcoming and went out of her way to make sure we were all catered for and had all we needed. The pub was very warm and decorated nicely, and we were served very quickly. There was good choice on the menu with the option of large and small portions on the standard pub food, plus an additional childrens menu as well. There was also a good specials board with a variety of starters and mains. The food was of a very good standard, there was plenty of it, and the veg was freshly cooked. It was a lovely meal and we all very much enjoyed it - I would definitely come back again next time we are up this way and was very impressed. Thank you!

Had heard good things about The Plough from a friend who lives nearby. We weren't disappointed. Lovely friendly staff and delicious unpretentious food. Two if us had the lamb which was delicious. The Plough had a lovely cosy traditional feel to it. Will return.
