This is a long way out of Chiang Mai. Our first impressions were---this would have been 5 star in its day. It is in need of some brushing up to bring it up to a better standard. Our villa had a very musty, damp smell about it and certain areas needed cleaning, eg bathrooms. Also we could hear a rat scratching away at night which was disturbing and a hole in the ceiling that the rat had made. Also work was being done late into the night 30 mtrs from our villa---which made it hard to sleep. The setting was beautiful in the counryside and the 2 pools were the best thing about this resort, especially the pool over the back which was larger and as it was in the low season very quiet. Because of the smell and the rat and noise we moved out after 2 days and went closer to Chiang Mai.
As this was our first trip since joining Royal Resorts we were a little disappointed and hope this is not the norm.

My wife and i went to Thailand in January 2012. We stayed at this resort for our first week. We had a very enjoyable time at this resort with some unexpected experiences. The first thing that you find out when you arrive at this hotel is that it is actually 4 units within the Belle Villa Resort, which is about an hours drive from Chiang Mai central. You will need to arrange transport to this place otherwise is could be hard to find unless you you get lucky with the taxi driver. If you like to cook some of your own food and want to stock up on supplies, eg beer. Then you really need to stop at a shop in Chiang Mai on your way.
There is a small village back towards Chiang Mai about 2km away which is worth checking out and to get some beer and basic groceries, fantastic fresh eggs, you can access it by a track that runs along the hill behind the resort. They also have two beautiful Elephants at the resort and even better if you want the full elephant experience then you can take a walking trail from the resort elephants for about 300 metres around to what is known as the Patara Elephant Farm which is a fantastic experience and they do not have a problem with you just turning up and hanging out with the Elephants. Meals were good although on on the slightly expensive side. there are a couple of resturaunts that will pick you up within driving distance but you need to book early to get in. The hardest thing to organise is the transport to and from the resort. Ideally you would hire scooters otherwise you are at the mercy of the resort in using their taxi, which is fine and the service great but you will just have to pay a little more and pre-arrange it. They do have a bus that runs down to Chiang Mai but it does not stay for long so if yo want to stay for the street markets you need to organise your trip back before hand.
Overall if you are happy to hang out at the resort and just relax, go for walks through beautiful country side and hang out with Elephants with a couple of day trips to Chiang Mai then this place is perfect. I would really like to come back here now that i know what to expect.

Firstly the distance from Chiang Mai is a problem around an hour away by car. You are in the middle of nowhere, when we were picked up from the airport and the driver stopped at the aupermarket for us to get a few bits because there was nothing around we thought he was joking. But no nothing around for miles.

The resort it's self is beautiful and very quiet. There is only one restaurant and the food choices is limited and for euporean food quite expensive. (do not chose the steak - it's truly terrible)

On our second night there was a huge party held outside our bungalow. We had no warning that this was taking place and as we had to be up at 6am the next day we went to bed earlier although getting to sleep was a problem with the very loud party outside we finally did fall asleep. At 11:15pm fireworks started and the whole bungalow shook from the fireworks overhead. If I had children with me I would have been seriously angry that no warning was given. The resort knew that the party was on and which bungalow we were staying in but nothing was said at all.

The tours the hotel arrange are a good standard. And our driver has been absolutly fantasic and helpful.

The bungalows are not kept to a good standard but are clean. Although in our bungalow we did not have a cooker only one bit of the hob works, the bathrooms are not to a high standard and the carpet in the second bedroom was damp from wet room because of the shower.

The staff around the resort are very friendly but as we are staying through timeshare once the one person leaves at whenever she wants we have no point of contact.

Walking around the resort in the dark is a huge problem not much light and you need to walk with a torch otherwise you do not know what you are walking on.

There is not enough sun loungers around the pool even though one pool is huge and only has two sun loungers when room for 50. The other pool where everyone was only had five which were all taken.

Our party can not agree whether the resort is poor or average.

its an absolute peach of a property. its a gated community with its own security , club house & 2 pools . The views are stunning & very picturesque . the biggest problem it faces is its distance from Chiangmai & it takes a good hour & a half to reach the property. absolutely no public transport available & taxi are quite an expensive option . the food is limited in choice but quite nice & a bit on the expensive side. The villas are spacious & comfortable . staff are polite & helpful.

Room Tip: the property has their own transport service but you have to bargain hard for a good deal & timi...

My husband, daughter, neice and I went to Thailand in May 2011. We stayed at Chiang Mai Royal Bella Vista Country Club for one week. This was our complimentary week which we received on joining the time share.

We had a brilliant holiday, the weather was perfect and as it was low season the resort was quite quiet. The staff were always helpful and pleasant, especially in the restaurant. We spent many afternoons around the pool after very busy mornings exploring and touring.

Although Royal Bella Vista is quite some way from the town of Chiang Mai (about 45 minutes up the mountain) this did not phase us at all. Taxis were easy to order and quite cheap,. The very fact that this resort is in the mountains and away from all the tourist hype is what we were attracted to.

Meals at the resort were ok but for something different there is a local restaurant only about 5 minutes away by car. They will pick you up drop you off later for no charge.

The gardens around the resort are quite rustic - they are designed to resemble an English village and having been to England a couple of times I believe they achieve this quite well.

There is lots to do and see and if you are prepared to pay for tours you will see a lot more.

We all agreed we would definitely like to return again some day in the future.

We started planning our exciting vacation trip to a magnificent destination in Thailand. We were so excited to visit this exotic and so mysterious country. My New Age friends immediately wanted souvenirs from all the Buddhist temples I was going to visit. We decide to go to Chiang Mai which is the capital city of the Chiang Mai province in North Thailand. It is about 7oo kilometers away from Bangkok, Thailand capital city, but you can find flight that arrives to Chiang Mai directly since it is one of the country’s main touristic cities. We stayed at the Club Royal Bella Vista which is located in the hills and therefore has a terrific view. Of course the natural beauty of the place helps the view and the location of the hotel a good 30 to 40 minute ride to the city assures you enough nature and peace as you like. It does offer a shuttle to take guests to the city and back for a comfortable fee, but you may consider using a taxi. The accommodations were great and the service was helpful and friendly, they even told me where to buy local crafts at better prices.
The unit we stayed in was clean and had TV, phone, DVD, a fireplace, a full kitchen and everything to make us comfortable. We didn’t get to use the kitchen since we all love Tai food and we ate out every day. The resort has great outdoors, a well kept pool, tennis courts, jogging track, mountain bikes and other great stuff, although we didn’t get to try any of them because we went to the city a lot., we would leave at noon and return after dinner so we didn’t use the resorts outdoor activities much, the days we stayed in late we used the pool to rest. We had breakfast in the hotel and the food was good and well priced.
I do recommend this hotel and would definitely go back and stay there. Hope this review is helpful to fellow travelers.
