“Just out of a fairy tale!”
Reviewed 26 May 2014

You have to be there to believe it! this place indeed is out of a story book...where you read about slanting roofs, painted walls, a portico and everything beautiful. The place is lush green, there are 2-3 brooks, the road along the villa is smooth, there are beautiful flowers all around you and the night sky is like a planetarium roof...you see stars and the moon n all you hear is nothing! If luxury to you is sighting the uncommon, being pampered like you were an auditor , then this the place for you. As many reviews suggest there isn't much to do...but you could relax, meditate, get a massage, read a book and just soak in everything that is so pretty. The staff is outstanding, the food is good, but you need to be a sport to cook up some meals on your own too. What the heck you can be lazing in a conditioned 5 star hotel with meals served at the your bed, but where do you get to hold your cuppa to a flowing brook and magnificent green patches, the smell of wood, grass and flowers, now that is a novelty!. Having said enough about the beauty, there is so much you can you so, hire a cab and do to the crafts village, chiang mai city, go see Lao and Cambodia border and the long neck tribes and yeah the Masea elephant camp. Everything is so simple, hand crafted and has a story to tell..go discover!!

This is our second visit to royal bella vista, once again we enjoyed the tranquility of the resort. Staff are very professional and friendly. The rooms are spacious and well maintained. We particularly enjoyed dinner at both the in house restaurant and the restaurant at the Doi resort outside the resort. Would have no hesitation in coming back.

Ok, so we got this hotel based on a concession. We were sort of dooped into getting a time share package, then got out of it, and just had a voucher to make use of one of the resorts, so we took it (since we couldn't get Phuket)- everyone, beware of RCI.
Anyways, yeah this place is perfectly nice if you love seclusion. The area is nice, the workers are nice, but it's dead out here. Transportation is not cheap and it is so darn long to get into the city, ugh. All travel programs and group activities that provided transportation refused to come pick us up. That is how far it is, and each drive was $20 Canadian dollars, so that was annoying. Food was good but overpriced. And to be honest, I am not (at all) feeling the whole elephants as a ride/prize/ circus show, so when I see elephants being dragged by little men by the delicate skin of their ear, it bothers me. I loved Chiang Mai and the activities we did. The hotel was okay, I wish for a stronger shower head and more free food, but we basically hit up the grocery stores and just butter and bunned it for much of our breakfasts, since there were no cooking areas. All in all, if I didn't get this place for free (still paying for food and transport), I wouldn't have come. Honest truth. The distance is too much.

We stayed at the Bella Vista Country Club for a week early December 2013 and found it to be a wonderful experience! We cannot speak highly enough of the staff, who were so friendly and helpful! Our room/apartment was large with a big balcony overlooking the hills and local people working at growing their crops.
The room was cleaned every day and re-stocked with tea, coffee, bottled water etc.

The grounds of the resort are absolutely gorgeous and so well cared for. It is a pleasure to walk around and admire all the different flowers and trees! The area around the resort is also great for walks - although hilly and getting off the grounds means negotiating quite a steep driveway. Once on the road, walking to the right will take you to a waterfall where the elephants from the local park go to bathe and be washed. We went there at 4pm one day and found the whole herd and their mahouts, including the tourists who were 'mahout for a day' – according to them 'the best day'!!

Turning to the left when leaving the resort, a short 5 minute walk will take you to the Elephant Park and one of our favourite things to do was have a relaxing coffee or meal across the road at The Doi – and watch the elephants come and go. There were 3 little elephant babies....... between 4 days and 4 months old. Very cute!!
Sometimes the mahouts bring a few elephants to the resorts, so that the guests can feed them bananas provided by the restaurant.

Should you feel like a little more exercise, you can continue down the road to a local village. This will take you no more than half an hour. There are a few shops where you can stock up on some of the essentials and fruit stalls for some of the local fruits. All very cheap and the locals are very friendly – they have almost no English so lots of smiles and bows!

Getting into the city of Chiang Mai takes about 30 mins by car. The resort offers a shuttle bus a couple of times a day and of course you can hire a car & driver if you are planning a day trip.
All the information regarding this and trips offered through the resort is in the rooms. We found the trips and drive into Chiang Mai quite expensive, but you have no other option of getting down the mountain.
We did the one full day trip to the Golden Triangle and even though we found this to be an expensive trip - approx. 100 Australian dollars - (for Thailand where everything is relatively cheap!) - at the end of the day, we thought it had definitely been worth the money!!
We loved the old city of Chiang Mai and you can wander around for hours looking at everything it has to offer.
Another must do is the Night Market on a Sunday night. The resort offers transportation there and back (5-9pm) and that is plenty of time to walk around, taste the atmosphere, get some great bargains! In Thailand it is quite safe to eat from the food stalls – as long as you can see them cooking the food in front of you!

The restaurant at the resort is good, but charges about twice as much as The Doi around the corner, so keep this in mind for coffee, drinks and lunch!!

All in all we absolutely loved our stay at the Bella Vista Country Club and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a peaceful environment with lots of friendly people (and elephants) around and still have the opportunity of being in a big city in about half an hour.

Room Tip: Corner room offers the best view and largest balcony.

anted to have 1week in Chiang Mai and another week in a complete tranquil enviroment.
We selected the Royal Bella Vista for its location and the beautiful surroudings.Upon arrival we were met by the odyssey resort Manager and staff and were immediately put at ease with a coffee and through both a friendly and welcoming manner. The current association with the Belle Villa regarding amenites was also explained. The room was a reasonable size and cleaned every day. Balcony to hills was great but bathroom and wc were tired and needed work. The bed which was two three quarters pushed together was huge, the linen was great but the mattress was very hard. The surroundings are beautiful and the morning walks even better. The elephants are within 500 meters and The Doi coffee resturant was worth the short walk. We took a tour to the Golden Triangle with sights to see as per the package listed, although the driver was great, we did not see places that were on the sheet. There needs to be a brochure / leaflet both for the driver and the clients so that both know what to expect.
We would definately return as it was the Tranquilty that we were looking for
Thanks Odyssey.

Staying at the Royal Bella Vista Country Club at Chiang Mai was a good experience. The drive to the hotel is a pretty 30 to 40 minutes through the hills. The club is located inside Bella Villa Resort even though there is no signage at the gate to show its existence. Once inside you have the villas and the hotel units. I stayed in one of the hotel units. It is spacious, It has a refrigerator, microwave, kettle and essential cutlery and crockery along with free daily supply od bottled water and coffee mixes and tea bags. You have a Flat screen Tv and a DVD player in the room. The TV doesn't have much programs you may like but is compensated by a good collection of DVD's which they will lent you to watch. Food is good though expensive and the menu is limited and not extensive. However you are in a place over 20 kms to the city and where no public transport is available. So you have to depend solely on the club transport which will charge you 600 THB to the city and another 600 THB to come back. If you are a business traveller, I don't recommend this resort while it is ideal for a family holiday or honey moon.
The staff are all very good mannered and courteous and the house keeping staff keeps your room clean every day.

I along with my wife stayed in Bella Vista for a week this month. We found the place very laid back and quiet with nothing much to do except swimming, walking and spending time at the Gym. The staff as usual was very very polite and helpful. The Resort had a very good swimming pool and Massage parlour and good places to walk. However it was almost 20 Kms from the main town though the resort had their own transport system on payment to take you any where. It is ideally suited for honeymooning couples.
