We may be a little biased because we arrived at Les Jardins d'Heva after two days of pretty wet and intense backpacking, but we could not have imagined anything better. (In fact we even tried to blow off our next lodging arrangements and stay an extra night, but alas, there was no room). Upon arrival we were greeted by the manager/owner who showed us our beautiful and quite spacious room. There were great soaps and shampoos (and we certainly needed them), not to mention the spa attached to the property.

We decided to take part in dinner and breakfast which were both phenomenal. There was excellent choice of different fishes and meats (we were rarely disappointed with our culinary options in Reunion) and excellent fruits. All in all an excellent stay, one thing though, be prepared for rain no matter when you go to Hell-Bourg, we were definitely underprepared and if we'd been expecting it, we would have enjoyed the town more. Either way, Les Jardins d'Heva is a great stay!

Like most travellers on La Réunion we chose this as a starting place for hiking tours and our visit to the center of the island.
The welcome was very friendly, the staff was always helpful.
The room smelled a little dampish, which probably cannot be avoided due to the overall climate.
Dinner was good but the dishes were the same every night.

Overall a nice and quite place - we liked it.

Lonely Planet recommended this hotel and so we booked - several months in advance which seems to be what you have to do for the limited accommodation in Reunion. The hotel has five differently themed bungalows, each divided into two double rooms, to accommodate separate couple or a family adjacent to each other. Each bungalow has a different theme - Chinese, Indian, French etc. and the decor reflects this. The hotel is set high up above the town of Hell-Bourg which is regarded as one of the most beautiful villages in France - Reunion, although in the Indian Ocean, is technically French and the town certainly lives up to this label. There are vast pointed mountains all around and the town is a stopping off point for walers wishing to do the Cirques de Mafate and Salazie. The climate is often cloudy because of the high altitude but is generally beautifully clear in the mornings.
The hotel had an excellent restaurant where we dined for the two nights of our stay. Lots of local dishes on offer at their help yourself buffet so there really was something for everyone.
At breakfast there were lots of local jams of strange fruits grown on the island and these were great!
The hotel is a great base for your stay. There is parking at the front - it really is a good idea to have a car here. Lots of walks available locally from short walks to the Three Waterfalls (l 1/2 hrs) to walks of 6 hours+
The big plus about the hotel is that there is a free warm jacuzzi type pool available free of charge upstairs when you come back tired from your walks!

Room Tip: All the rooms seemed of an excellent standard so you should have no major problems with any allocate...

The hotel is just outside the village - a longish walk if you want to try local restaurants (we didn't bother, the homemade creole food in the hotel was good.)
The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful.
The hotel advertises itself as a 'vernacular' hotel (2 star) which is fair enough. The rooms are in 'chalets' in the garden and are decorated like tin huts (sounds naff - and my wife was less than impressed when we arrived - but I thought it was pleasant, although I've slept in more comfortable beds.)
Hellbourg and the Cirque de Salazie are really spectacularly beautiful.
But a note of caution. The roads are extremely challenging - and I've driven many times on mountain roads over 50 years. We arrived well after dark. NOT at all a good idea!
But learn from my mistake. Drive carefully, arrive before dark and be prepared to be blown away by the location!

This must be your pick when staying in charming Hell-Bourg. The bungalows, situated in the gardens, are spacious with walk-in showers. The only thing we missed were little reading lamps as the lightning is pretty general and weak at nights. As a guest you're entitled to 3 free quarters of an hour in the spa (sauna/hammam, jacuzzi). The spa is far from fancy, but it's a treat to be able to put your feet up after a climb up to Bélouve forest! The buffet in the evening was sumptuous and very tasty (creole style). Be sure to order a 'punch maison' to drink. Breakfast is plain but one morning with got a fresh fruit juice with vanilla.
The place could be better organised though. When we got there, there was nobody to be found at the reception for exemple. When we asked for bus timetables upon leaving, they said we could find them at the bus stop downtown, but there weren't any... Would have been a small service to look them up on the internet, surprised as they were that we didn't come by car. If you don't have a car, be aware that the bungalows are not downtown but situated a bit higher up. Nothing to worry about, keen walkers won't mind. Les Jardins are conveniently 'en route' to the Gîte de Bélouve Forest trailhead.

On the first night we arrived we were put in "Creole 1". The room had obviously seen better days, there was nowhere to store clothes, it was damp, there was a mouldy cot in the corner and the bathroom flooded when using the shower. We had to stay in this room the first night of holiday, it was not pleasant.
Once we complained however we were moved to another room which was a world apart. Well furnished and cosy with a stylish bathroom. It made the rest of our stay very enjoyable. Dinner was ok in the restaurant but there are better places to eat in Hell-bourg. Breakfast was generous enough and we never went hungry
If you are staying here make sure you are not in the Creole 1 room and you should enjoy yourself. Recommended with this one reservation.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights during our honeymoon. The hotel is in a very nice location and Hellbourg is a very beautiful place.
The service at the hotel is excellent, especially from the director: she not only gave me a free massage as a honeymoon gift, but on the morning we checked out, when our hired car didn't start, she also took us herself to the nearest Avis branch to get a replacement car. She was really very kind and helpful.
I also appreciated the environmental concerns the hotel displayed, from the 2 separate rubbish bins for different materials to the big bottles of toiletries in the bathroom instead of single-dose bottles - and the actual products were very good too!
True, the room was a bit cold in the evenings as there was no heating, and the reception desk was sometimes un-manned, but that didn't ruin in any way our really pleasant stay.
