Our week at The Grizzly Bear Ranch was absolutely wonderful, and the highlight of our 3 weeks in North America (including the Rockies, ending time on a horse riding ranch, Vancouver and a cruise to Alaska), and this view is supported by our 14 year old daughter. If you like nature, comfort, fantastic food, and life changing insight into what human beings can achieve, this is the place for you. He icing on the setting here were the people: Kristin, who was our host; Forret and Lily, our guides; and the other guests. Everyone had intersting life experience to share - I won't say any more as I don't want to spoil anything for future guests!

We were about a week too early for the grizzlies (the salmon arrived to spawn whilst we were there, so the Grizzlies would be arring soon after), but we saw several black bears, humming birds, bald eagles and the salmon. The mountain flowers were spectacular.

The activities were great: hiking on the top of a mountain, taking a boat on a lake, and white water rafting. I had been concerned about my fitness level as I hadn't undertaken the preparation that I had intended to, but I was fine! Children need to be outdoor oriented. This is not the place for children (or adults!) who whinge!

The accommodation and food were truly excellent. Our log cabin was right by the river. We had a log burning stove and the beds were soooo comfortable. To our surprise, there was internet, which is useful for teenagers. The ingredients for the food were predominantly locally sourced, and all freshly prepared - usually by Krisitin.

This experience will remain with us for a long time. Thank you Krisitn!

As native Calgarians, we have traveled the backroads of B.C. for more than 30 years and had not been to this area before. We have hiked the back country of B.C. and Alberta extensively. Even though we have never encountered a bear in any of our hikes, V has always been paranoid about encounters. We learned a lot about bears and bear-human interaction from the guides and from Kristin. I think V is now less paranoid about bears - a major accomplishment!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the "ranch". We found it to be very professionaly operated, with superb guides. The food was excellent. The cabin was great. The setting peaceful. It was not the optimal time for bear viewing, but we did see a few black bears.
We found the company of the guides, guests, and Kristin to be pleasant and all of their stories and experiences to be fascinating and entertaining.
We hope to return during the fall grizzly viewing season in the future.

We stayed at the lodge for a week in August before the bear season, but were treated to The Taste of the Summer package, with hiking, rafting and boating trips offered in lieu of bear watching, which is only offered during the autumn season.

We really could not have asked for much better and our stay was a wonderful introduction to the Canadian Rockies (we travelled onto various national parks after our 4 day stay at the Grizzly Ranch). The day of hiking was a real privilege as we had the Selkirk range of mountains completely to ourselves, and the other activities were arranged smoothly, and most importantly our guides were a lot of fun.

The cabin we stayed in was very comfortable, with a cosy comfortable bed warmed up by the stove fireplace we kept running on the room. Never a moment when hot shower did not function with desired effect. Most of all was the amazing riverside view we had from both inside and outside the cabin. Most evenings we just sat outside transfixed by the flowing blue-green river and the view of the mountains in the background. Totally unspoiled nature.

And at the start and end of every day, Kristin delivered knockout meals, great home cooking with real panache and cooked with passion.

My wife and I never really travel to the same place twice, as there are too many other temptations out there. However for the Grizzly Bear Ranch we hope we will return, this time to see the Grizzlies in their prime salmon feeding mode. We did see a black bear and cubs this time round though, so we cannot complain.

We stayed with Kristin at the Grizzly Bear Ranch in June 2011. (Julius away on assignment) What a wonderful time we experienced in the outback of Canada. We were lucky enough to be the only guests for our four day experience and had the full attention of the marvellous guides Gillian and Forrest. The were both a mine of information in regard to Black Bear behaviour and the local flora and fauna. We both thoroughly enjoyed their company and informative discussions.

The accommodation was first class and we still do not know how Kristin produced such wonderful meals from such a small kitchen. The meals were well looked forward too after a day of exploration.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are now looking forward to our return in Grizzly Bear season in the near future.

It's difficult to add anything that hasn't been said before in previous reviews, but our family had a fabulous time 'on safari' in the Selkirk Mountains amongst wonderful scenery with great hosts and guides. Delightful cabins, great food, awe inspiring sights- a unique holiday experience! We loved it!

We had a great summer wilderness experience - the walks in the mountains with our sensitive guides were beautiful; wildflowers, lichen, snow, old growth cedars and hemlock, learning which berries we could eat - all precious memories as was swimming and exploring the lake - and its otters. Our wood cabin was metres from a fast flowing blue-green river, which lulled us to sleep after the scrumptious meals that Kristin cooked in the evenings. Our times around the table over breakfast and dinner were a culinary joy, with great conversations. The story of Julius and Kristin's setting up of Grizzly Bear Ranch is a great adventure story. I felt I was being hosted and thoughtfully nurtured by friends. This was the highlight of our travels in Canada. We hope to return for a Grizzly season - soon.

Room Tip: There are four cabins - ours was close to the river as is one other. The other two are also very clo...

My wife and I have just returned from a great trip to Canada, including a week here. It was wonderful. The scenery is awesome and its truly a journey off the beaten track, though being August this was a hiking/river stay, there's not much wildlife at this time. We stayed in the eco cabin which was very comfortable and waking to the river rushing past your window while sipping your morning tea and coffee is as good as it sounds. Kristin's food is great and the communal dinners with wide-ranging conversation were truly enjoyable.
