We had a mid-afternoon lunch here while on a day trip to Kaslo, after checking TripAdvisor. Quite a find, just off the main drag and not something we would have discovered otherwise. My partner had a calamari followed by a garden salad; I had the BBQ pulled pork sandwich. Servings were large (perhaps not by US standards), and the food was absolutely delicious. Both the calamari and sandwich were variations on the standard, and the chef was good at combining flavours without showing off how creative he could be (but he was).

We were the only patrons at mid-afternoon, so it was a surprise that the requested spinach salad showed up as a garden salad; we had waited long enough that we did not request it be changed. A drink was comp'd, but an apology would have been nice, too. I had the sense the wait staff was not fully convinced the error was not ours... Nonetheless, we would return, for sure.

I had been looking forward to eating here for a long time. I had heard that the food and service was amazing. We drove 4 hours to eat here, renting a hotel nearby. We called ahead and asked what time the restaurant was open until because the sign out front was vague and only said it was open until close. We were assured that the restaurant was open until 8:30. At around 6 we went to the restaurant. We walked up, trying to decide if we should eat indoors or on the patio. We decided on the patio but the hostess told us that they were done for the day, they were closing due to being short staffed. We were very upset because the place was mostly empty and they said they were open until 8:30. We went somewhere else to eat. 2 hours later, we had done eating and were going for a walk and we passed the rosewood cafe. It was still open, and there were people eating there. They lied to us so that we wouldn't eat there.

So friendly-- the service was amazing. I also really enjoyed the homemade iceteas they had, and also the giant salads on the menu! I definitely recommend the Rosewood!

We were shocked to find such a great restaurant in Kaslo. The chef owns and operates this place himself, and it's easy to see that he loves his work. It feels like a family-run operation -- in the good way, not in the way when nepotism enables poor, surly service. The length of their daily specials list is longer than other restaurants' entire menus! The food was very fresh, and presentation was beautiful. Everything we had for our lunch was prepared from scratch. Of course, this comes with a price higher than some run-of-the-mill place, but the costs weren't outlandish.
