We decided to skip the Tamar River cruise and opted for a short drive along the Tamar River towards Velo Winery, hoping to have lunch. After we parked in their large outside area, we were warmly greeted by their dog at the door. Just inside another friendly staff member showed us to the tasting room where we sipped a few of their wines. Then we were ready for lunch and were seated near the window. We ordered a wood-fired 4 cheeses pizza to share, followed by 600g pork rib served with risotto, soup of the day and a glass of cabernet sauvignon 2008. The wine was the best one tasted on the day, it was not included in the free tastings. By the way, their pinot noirs were quite interesting. The pizza was very well cooked and flavoursome, as was the pork with risotto and the soup. This was one of two places we visited in Tasmania where the meat was perfectly cooked.
The ambience is contemporary, very relaxing, with views of their vineyards and the grazing land across the road - see photo. We enjoyed watching the tractor collecting bales of hay.
Take note of this place because our bill was for a total of $83 and the kitchen operates until 4pm daily. We were happy with our day.
