We decided to skip the Tamar River cruise and opted for a short drive along the Tamar River towards Velo Winery, hoping to have lunch. After we parked in their large outside area, we were warmly greeted by their dog at the door. Just inside another friendly staff member showed us to the tasting room where we sipped a few of their wines. Then we were ready for lunch and were seated near the window. We ordered a wood-fired 4 cheeses pizza to share, followed by 600g pork rib served with risotto, soup of the day and a glass of cabernet sauvignon 2008. The wine was the best one tasted on the day, it was not included in the free tastings. By the way, their pinot noirs were quite interesting. The pizza was very well cooked and flavoursome, as was the pork with risotto and the soup. This was one of two places we visited in Tasmania where the meat was perfectly cooked.
The ambience is contemporary, very relaxing, with views of their vineyards and the grazing land across the road - see photo. We enjoyed watching the tractor collecting bales of hay.
Take note of this place because our bill was for a total of $83 and the kitchen operates until 4pm daily. We were happy with our day.

We were told to stop off here by a local pub and we are so glad we did. Their wines were fantastic; personal favourite the unwooded chardonnay. Thank you to Mary for your knowledge on these wines.

We dined at Velo on a Friday night after a last minute decision to go there. There were only 5 other tables taken when we arrived so we think this place has not yet been discovered as a great dinner venue.

All three courses were delicious and with matching wines that complimented them beautifully. The decor and outlook over the vines and valley made for a lovely ambience. What stood out the most was the service, where nothing was too much trouble even if it wasn't on the menu.

We stopped by here for a coffee mid morning. The service was great and the coffee was excellent. We wished it was a bit later, we would have stayed for lunch. Decorated in keeping with its name. Good place to eat, drink and pass the time of day.

Very disappointing meal. Over priced, under cooked and small portions.
Pizza dough still raw. Steak with raw fat. The risotto was lovely, but a very small entry size passed on as a main.
Waitress, especially one couldn't focus on one thing, appeared lost. Would being two meals and then run off looking confused, we would have to constantly have to get her attention for other things such as salt and pepper. Gave feedback about the meal, response was, thanks but no compensation offered. Better off not trying to suffer through, complain first!
